The Mouse Doesn't Work On The Game Start Screen

My mouse doesn't work at game start screen. I only see big white dot on the start screen and can't move it. If I click windows icon (the icon near ctrl and alt icons), the mouse can work. Outside Victoria 3 game, my mouse is perfectly work.

My mouse is Logitech Pebble M350. It is a mouse using USB dongle. In "Set Up USB Controller", the Controller name is "Monect Hid Device".

The Steam Overlay had been disabled when I my problem was occured. The only controller I use is my mouse. I don't use other controller but the problem is still occured. I don't have any problems like this when I play other games in Steam.

Please help solve this problem. Thank you in advance.

Can you swap out this mouse for a standard USB device? Or if this is a laptop, a touch pad? This is for diagnostic purposes.

I tried to unplug my mouse. The problem's the same. With touch pad (without mouse), I can't move the cursor.

The screenshot is attached. The first screenshot shows the dot in the middle. The second screenshot shows that the cursor is appeared (and can be moved) when I open another screen (for example Windows Store).

How to fix it?

DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

No other devices attached. No game controllers or joysticks attached.

DXDIAG, pdx_setting, system.log and error.log are attached. However, I can't find exception.log in Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/logs/ folder and Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/exceptions/ folder.

Has this game ever worked for you? Or it was always like this?

Your machine has only barely enough system memory to run this game - make sure you exit every other app you can before starting it.

Update that Intel UHD Graphics 630 video driver from ASUSTeK support, failing that Intel themselves https://downloadcenter.intel.com/


Then update the nVidia driver to July 2023

Hi, this game has never worked for me.

I don't use other applications, only Steam and Victoria 3. Yet the result always same.

I have downloaded the new driver for nVidia. However, for Intel UHD Graphics 630, I can't find the driver in the link that you provided.

I tried again and the game is still stuck at start screen.

This only happens to Victoria 3. I can play another games in the same laptop, such as Civilization 6, Stellaris, Crusader Kings 3, XCom Enemy Unknown, Xcom 2, Tropico 6, Total War Three Kingdoms, Total War: Warhammer II, Age of Wonders 4, etc.

Of those games, the only one that is anything like this one is CK3. Very unusual that it runs but Vic3 does not.

Try this: make a new Windows user and log into it with that. Go into startup settings and disable everything you can in there, then reboot and log in as that new user again. Then run Victoria3.exe directly from File Explorer. Is that any better, or at least different?

Here is another thread from a user using Monect Hid Device. From my limited investigation it looks like the driver does something that makes the game think that a xinput controller is the primary control device.

I've tried to disable everything in startup setting, reboot, and run Victoria3.exe from file explorer. The result is the same.

The solution from thread "Mouse pointer error in Victoria 3 game" doesn't work too.

The game is freeze like the picture below. The mouse works when I click "prt sc" icon to screenshot and window "icon" to open file explorer. However, after that, the mouse or mousepad doesn't work.

I can play Crusader Kings 3 without problem like this.

That will not disable or remove the problem device, I'm pretty sure.

I just tried the method to disable monect hid device, AndrewT.

However, the result is the same. I can't move my mouse or touchpad at the game's home screen (screenshot as below).

I think it's the time to say good bye to the game and uninstall this game. Too bad I have bought the game that I can't ever play with my gaming laptop, Asus TUF Gaming FX504 Series.
