So the mongols invaded as per usual, only by this point i had over 700k soldiers and couldn't really be bothered stamping out their armies one by one, so I imprisoned their leader and ended the war before they could invade any of my territory. Their armies kept going, however, apparently unfazed by all this, until they eventually reached the HRE and...well...

You've got to admit, those cultists ARE brave.
Despite there being not a single Tengri province or ruler left as far as I could find using the ledger, this cult has attempted to induct me about 2-3 times in the past 4 centuries. I have no idea how they got into my realm, since my empire of Normandy has been confined to modern France to the best of my ability.

Do it, as far as I know you will adopt the faith in secret and thus you can discard it with no problem whatsoever, you can enter the cult to see who the cultists are. BUT, that breaks a little the experience and roleplay, I recommend to you to stay with the decision you make, at least for a while, and roleplay to how your character found God again.
As far as I can tell, this child somehow managed to get a concubine (probably a missing "is adult" check in a Chinese raiding event, he has the "raiding China" modifier) and sired a son at the age of 12.
I guess this game wasn't messed up enough yet...

What makes you say that Sunni Mongols mean doom? Now they can only declare invasions if they save 1000 piety. Admittedly that guy is almost there.
