Won't even let me surrender, wtf? Didn't even know it was possible for them to refuse the surrender. I need to regroup my army so I can deal with this crusade that has just been called on me. :(

With the invasion cb you can gain a lot more by occupying the holdings first instead of accepting surrender instantly

I know, I know. But it still pains me to see the failure of the Spanish monarchies ;_;

you would really hate one of the games I am playing, my Breton family is a generation away from breeding out the last Jiménez kingdom (Though one of their lines is dukes in England of all places) The main line won a crusade in Spain, and then started to inherit the rest of Spain, though it will be still two kingdoms, From what i see, France does not go marching into Spain anymore unless Aragon and Barcelona fall to the Muslims, or if its a crusader kingdom. Though one of the more fun games i had was that France Inherited Aragon, and then after the civil war they lost the title king of France, so Aragon formed in South of France and Peidmont, but not touching Spain at all.

Can be annoying though. The aztec invasion of France is firmly stuck at 90% because they fail to reach a few spread out baronies that the french built all over europe in better days.
So why I'd love them to win it so I can holywar for France in turn, they have been just sitting there for the better part of 10 years and will prolly continue to do so

This implies that france lost some territory it gained at some point. is this true? I almost never see someone as big as france losing territory they gained earlier

..The Spanish Reconquista not only happened early and with English support, but pretty much Iberia will never be unified under a single state. Also most African Islamic Nations just got destroyed.

So yes -

There was a Christian Zerg Rush.

France isn't all that ahistorical, though. The French were big on the crusades and reconquistas. If you look through some of the histories of the Spanish royalty in game, even, you'll see some Franks there. Mind, France being in the south of Spain is a bit of a stretch, but... eh!

When the French attempted to take over Aragon during the XIVth Century (the Aragonese Crusade), the King of France wrote in correspondace with his son and his brother, that the longtime dream of the House of France to dominate over Spain was at last very close to being true.

It still bugs me a lot, especially when you see "French Andalusia", and not a coherent line of northern possessions (Aragon, Navarre...). But for that matter, it's not ahistorical to see France attempting to take over Spain.

It is very ahistorical, however, to see France try that in the XIIth Century, when France wasn't even France entirely, when Toulouse and Aquitaine were completely independent from Paris, etc. That's why it bugs me hard.

And that Ilkhanate frightens me

France is a medium sized country compared to big players like Fatimids, Seljuks and HRE. They can still loose some land quite easily in my experience. They meddled in Spain and the Holy Land for a bit but got pushed out by the Byzzies and Pisa respectively (which got wiped out in the mediterranean by me but was so filthy rich that it simply took over most of western Spain and Scotland. Wiped out the Hansa for good, too, not 5 years after their emergence. They are working on Gotland now despite my continued attacks.)

Anyway, I guess that France lost some land that was subject to revolt at that time, or that had new holdings under construction which then stayed under the french crown. Oddly, they also owned the Crusader Castles in the Holy Land for quite a long time as at some point the Grandmaster of the Knights Templar was also King of France. And it seems the Aztecs either won't or can't go that far

The Varnagian Guard has seized the Byzantine Throne.

Their tyranny didn't last long when a successful papal crusade for Hellas installed an Anglo-Saxon from the House of Mercia as Emperor of the Latin Empire.

So shortly after making the only vassalised bishop that I had anti-pope, I realised that another antipope appeared. Here's the screenshot...

However the fun does not end here. This antipope is actually one of the former pope bastards, and now her brother is the current pope.

A few amusing screenshots while I was running a test game for my VIET mod a while back:

Swedish-Arabic Sultan of Jerusalem and his son, the (later blond-haired) Prince Ismail:

Seljuks somehow converted to Catholicism (it appears England attempt at a Crusade went a bit too well... they also ended up with random territory in Yemen that survived until the early 1300s; anyhow the Seljuks went back to Islam within a few decades)

Basileus Alp Arslan I of the Byzantine Empire. Apparently his maternal grandfather was a Turkish courtier named Alp Arslan. His grandson was Basileus Alp Arslan II.

Married my character to a Pope's bastard once. Got nowhere with it, but it was fun while it lasted.

Anglo Saxon? What mod is that?

CKPlus. They have a mechanic where the winner of a crusade has the option of giving it away to a distant relative or a landless crusader veteran. The King of Scotland actually won the crusade but went home and the crusaders obviously elected one of their own veterans to be emperor of the Latin Empire. Just like what happened after the first crusade.

My current game, went seriously bogus.

What you see there is a defunct HRE (a map consisting of basically 4 blobs and the HRE isn't one of them - the irony), aztec France and a lot of Kings in exile (France in Spain, Poland in Hungary & Sweden (after their Kings became Russian and formed half the Russian Empire as Ruthenia) in their last free province Moldau, facing certain doom.
There is not a single european count left in that Mongol behemoth. The Rurikovichs are all dead. Oh and what you see in Ireland well...isn't Ireland. Don't ask.

But don't worry. After all, I've been working hard from day 1 to mend the east/west schism and crush Islam. Surely that would put an end to Mongol Holy Wars at least...?

What brings us to the last of our big players. Well played Harold. Well played.

Wait, the Aztecs are ruled by "Of St Brieuc"? What? I'd like to see a picture of their leader, if you don't mind.

Upon death without a heir, the Aztec Empire gets a randomly-genned leader.
And that is a nice reverse Stamford.

anglo saxon? What mod is that?
