He said "aid the faith." Reinforcing a Catholic ruler's retinue at max speed means a stronger Catholic ruler, which certainly seems like "aiding the faith" to me...
and my team of crack lawyers, who just recently helped me convince a fellow ruler that I did him a favor after executing three of his sons I'd captured in battle while castrating the ruler himself, because with one imbecile son and no way to produce new heirs, his kingdom now won't be ravaged by gavelkind. (They're great lawyers.)

It pays to hire Massingbird & Co.
I remember Massingbird's most famous case: the Case of the Bloody Knife. A man was found next to a murdered body. He had the knife in his hand. 13 witnesses had seen him stab the victim. And when the police arrived, he said "I'm glad I killed the bastard." Massingbird not only got him off; he got him knighted in the New Year's Honours List. And the relatives of the victim had to pay to wash the blood out of his jacket!

Sometimes leader of religion is just old heretic.

Hello, good people,
I wanted to share with you the story that currently unfolds in my campaign. I have just paid attention to the goold ol Byzantium as here is what I see:

99% of what is expected. But then the lack of internal borders got my attention. Ctrl+click:

The de facto ruler of the empire is that woman:
ck2_7.png
who is probably the scariest female character I have ever seen in this game. The emperor, on the other hand is a character so blatant and uncompetent that he doesnt even deserve a screenshot. Good thing Ioulia likes him, right?
ck2_8.png
Well, she basically loves him but that will last for only ten more years. After that... What kind of hell this woman is going to unleash on the poor emperor? I am super excited. I play a rather good natured character so I will probably tributize the dude and help him to take the power back somehow.

Also, as a bonus, her husband:

He is a fairly decent guy. Nothing less, nothing more. They are the same dynasty, but not closely related and Ioulia, the Dragon lady made him even her heir. They wont have any kids so he will inevitably inherit. Unless she eats him.
In what strange times we do live in.

I was more amused by the traits she has.

Scholarly Theologian, Lesbian, Lunatic, Cruel, Cannibal, Familial Kinslayer, Gregarious, Charity, Poet, Attractive, Lustful, Cravern, Zealous, and last Aztec Disease not in that order.

When you get all of that put together. She is one intense lady!

Absolutely. Another puzzle (because every woman is a mystery) is that she is 57 yo and determined to have kids (seduction focus + groom a heir ambition).

This is my first time playing from the Old Gods start date (I'm playing as Alfred the Great), and naturally the AI reformed the Germanic Faith in just 15 years after conquering all of East Francia. It's thankfully been working out so far since Pagan Germany collapsed into its constituent duchies, a combination of revolts (I set provincial revolt strength to twice its normal amount) and holy wars has almost entirely forced the Pagans out of the British Isles, and after the Umayyads won a Holy War for Toulouse, the Catholic Holy Wars were unlocked, but it's still weird that this happened.

Nomadic "Son of Shaytan" Caliph.

Also note - The Mongols not just usurp the title by invasion of Arabian Empire - they deliberately re-created it.
Interesting - Can Nomads call for Jihad?

I'd think the Caliph can call for Jihad no matter what his government is. So yes, be afraid.

I matrilinealy beothred my character to some Capet courtier, who later became heir to duchy of Orleans, and some time after- heir to Kingodm of France. Temptation was too strong and I kinda ruined my small vassal count playthrough :<.Is this addiction to power or just the game is too easy?
