With the new administration began a new series of initiatives.
In an effort to get people back to work, the Great Wall of America was started.
A project to construct a series of fortifications along the Canadian and Mexican borders.
Steel factories rumbled back to life to supply material for the Wall.
The military began a concentrated recruiting program.
Those who could not find work were offered employment in the ranks.
Soldiers pay was forwarded to their families.

Spain fall into Civil War ! Europe divided on future of Spain !
President Browder gave a speech about the situation in Europe.
The Germans and Italians sent aid into Spain, while England and France
did nothing. This, he said simply showed the true nature of those involved.
The United States would have nothing to do with the conflict.

Germany Annexes Austria !
President Browder spoke to the American people late in March.
He told them that Germany annexing Austria was probably a good thing for the Austrians. The small country of Austria could hardly expect to survive in the growing global community. England and France had in effect annexed Poland when they took it into the Alliance. Being part of the larger was much better than struggling along alone.

A huge rally and parade took place down Pennsylvania Avenue today.
Row after Row of soldiers marched down the street as fighter and tactical bomber squadrons flew in formations overhead. Even that beloved character Goofy was present,
although he apparently had to leave just after lunch ..
Out of a dark alley a few streets over from Pennsylvania Avenue,
Alexander Bittelman walks out. He is pulling off a pair of heavy, black leather gloves.

An staff briefing in August of 1938 found the U.S. to be in the following condition.
Civil Dissent : 37%, and slowly falling
Factory Activity : 540 and slowly growing
28 infantry divisions now in the field.
Multiple divisions in Seattle, Buffalo, Concord, and thru the South West on the border with Mexico. Air power has been shifted to mostly the South West. Naval forces have been repositioned into the Gulf of Mexico.
President Browder issues a top secret memorandum dictating that all departments should be ready for action on a moments notice. When the time is right, he intends to move to claim Mexico. He orders factory output to be slowly shifted into a war footing. Production of excess consumer goods will be slowly reduced to just slightly higher than public demand.

President Browder issues a second memorandum, stating that as unrest in Europe grows, the time for America to claim her dominance in the Western Hemisphere draws near.
Production is ordered to complete the shift to a maximum output of war materials.

End of 1938 finds the US with :
35 divisions in the field. All are basic infantry.
The production que is beginning to gear up units with brigaded artillery, as well as more basic infantry. Research is heading forward as quickly as possible on expanded infantry weapons, as well as testing of new aircraft types.
Dissent is at 35%, and slowly falling.
Factory output is now at 561.
