OK, so I'd like to see if we can organise a multiplayer game of HOI2:DDA using Fallout's Doomsday version 1.1.5.

For anyone who might read this thread and not know of this mod, it is a polished science fiction conversion of HOI2 set in the world of the Fallout games. It has completely new graphics, tech tree, economy, units, nations and thousands of events. Combat is longer and more brutal. Infrastructure is low almost everywhere.

It is the year 2245 AD and North America is a blasted, radioactive region known as the Wastelands. You take control of one of the emerging nations to carve out your destiny. You will recognise the main factions from the games of Fallout 1, Fallout 2 and even Fallout Tactics and Van Buren. As well, there are new nations not covered in the Fallout games.

Fallout 3 came out after this mod was already in development, so you won't find many factions from that game, but this mod is set decades before FO3 anyway. It begins a few years after the end of Fallout 2.

Details
Base game version: Armageddon 1.2
Mod version: FODD 1.1.5
Mod thread: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?311272-War-war-never-changes...

Aim is to use Hamachi for direct IP connection to the host computer. You need to sort your router out if you have one. There could be firewall or NAT in use which can block the connection.

Everyone should have winrar and maybe 7-zip installed to deal with sharing save game files which are compressed.

Interested Players
We'll have to list everyone's time zone and availability so we can schedule a game. I'll edit this first post as people show interest.

Sword GMT+10 Sydney, Australia
- Fridays or Saturdays and am prepared to play late at night or early in the morning.
- RCC, Manitou Tribes, East BoS.

Xanthor GMT+1 Germany
- Fridays and Saturdays, maximum every second weekend. Could also do Mon - Wed.
- West BoS, NCR, Robot Nation.

Elitech CET (GMT +1)
- Most nights, adhoc availability.
- Mutant Army, Vault City, NROM

Ghery Hungary (GMT+1)
NCR FUSA Gecko New Arroyo Reservation Texas Enclave

Begri Hungary (GMT+1)
West bos, robot nation, new arroyo, mutant army

Game rules
Everything can discussed and confirmed with a consensus vote, but here is how I think we could run the game.

- No tech team takeover.
- Vote on IC take over (but the mod already has a very high IC ratio for non national provinces).
- Normal AI aggressiveness and difficulty.
- We save regularly through the game as it the mod can crash sadly (I am always hunting for the last bugs). Autosave monthly. It's reasonably fast from memory.
- Game speed depends on speed of connection, but generally we would aim for normal speed or lower, unless everyone finds that too slow in which case we try to speed up. From past experience, this is usually relevant in the early game where there is not a lot to do, so people want to go faster. Once Marauders spawn there is a flurry of activity and it should be better to play on lower speeds.
- An initial pause to set up your nation.
- You can pause each hour. How about a maximum of 5 minutes per real world hour per person?
- Of course, pause if real life intrudes somehow. Not counted in pause allowance (bathroom break, parents, wives, girlfriends, pets, etc). :D
- Game host to pause game if players become desynched (it happens). This is not counted in pause allowance.
- No war on non neighbouring nations in first year, which is usually done to unlock locked starting forces. War on neighbours or on non neighbours after the first year is OK.

That's all I can think of.

Cheers,
Sword

Hello i stumbled over your mod 2 days ago and I love it.
I would be interested in joining a multiplayer game and Friday Saturday would also be okay with me. Just two minor problems: 1) I'm from Germany(GMT+1) which might make coordination of playing times hard. 2) I can only play every other weekend tops. If one of those two iteams is a gamebreaker thats fine.

There are 2 questions that came up for me that I'd like to ask right now. Firstly concerning nation selection, do you want to wait for all players to be know before selecting nations, or should every player just state what nation they will play? Secondly what about polarstation zeta? They spawn late in the game and will stay cpu controlled? or will it be allowed to take control of them(by changing a players nation).

Cheers

Hey Xanthor,

Those times should be fine. It's always a pain with time zones as players come from all over the world.

You can say what nations you prefer right now if you like. How about nominate top three?

Mine would be: Royal Canadian Commonwealth, Manitou Tribes, Enclave.

Cheers,
Sword

I guess i could try... My schedule is very chaotic. I can play every day but theres also a chance that i wont be able to when its set a few days in advance...

But I dont mind if u guys keep playing, ill make my nation so strong even the AI will beat u ;)

If thats allright with everybody here, my timezone is CET (GMT +1)

Id like to propose another rule - how about none can take an alliance leader nation? So no Enclave, FUSA or PSZ...

And my choices would be: Mutants, Vault City, NROM

P.s. Since this will be my first MP game, anything in specific i need to keep an eye on? Yes, i got my port forwarded, no NAT problem in torrents, and some experience with hamachi (played Sins of a solar empire)... I guess before we start playing, somebody might be willing to play a game with me, just to see if both our settings are ok. Xanthor, u up for that?

OK good idea about not playing faction leaders. I've changed my preference above to East BoS.

Transferring save game files in HOI2 is bizarre. I suspect it's because of Unicode differences. Anyway, have the compression programs like Winrar ready. We can use Hamachi or maybe a different service. Whatever, we'll figure it out.

Cheers,

Damn, if u go for EBoS & I end up with Mutants, i might have to change my conquering policy ;) Lol, who knows, we might end up taking on FUSA & RCC 2gether :D

Add no alliance leaders.

1: Tech team takeover definitely OFF, vote on IC takeover?
2: Yes
3: Autosave each month?
4: I recommend 1 under normal
5: Sounds good
6: each hour 5 mins? As in real hour or ingame hour?
7: Of course
8: I agree

@Elitech sure I'd be up for that, I've played a couple of HOI games over hamachi allready which is why I think we should use hamachi ;). Monday to Wednesday would work best for me, for the testgame.

Gamespeed of normal and below sounds good for me, especialy considering that Hoi tends to "desync". Where the game is still somewhat in sync but the time at which players are can differ. If one of the players lacking behind pauses the time usually catches up. This is the reason why I'd be against the 5 minute rule, depending on how stable the game runs those 5 minutes could be used up to synchronize the game.

The nations I'd like are: West BoS, NCR,Robots. Robots and NCR share the second place. So if someone wants one of those two I'd have no problem with taking the otherone.
And another thing.. playing Hub or Necropolis wouldn't be wise I think, West BoS needs money for the bunker events and hub has lots of money that can be easily taken, same with necropolis and ressources...

And another thing concerning the times: The times I posted previously only apply if we play on the weekends. Under the week I could player every Monday to Wednesday. Mondays from rougly 2 pm local time, Tuesdays from 6 pm and Wednesday whenever you want. These times are bound to change though since I'll be back to work starting at the 23rd of may which means that 7pm local time would be the earliest that works then.

edit Alliance leaders: For me it would be okay to have enclave and Fusa as playernations, if the majority does not want that thats fine, I just don't really care.

KK, great, ill try and have everything up and running by monday... Need to format my comp etc. Do u use skype?

And I doubt anybody will want to play Hub or Necropolis ;)

As Sword wrote, all rules are open for discussion and majority wins. I believe playing an alliance leader might give some advantage, somebody else might see it another way. If majority say we can play as leaders, then we shall :)

@Sword - well, Im sorry i have to disagree with ur opening post, but there ARE faction from Fo3 in FoDD. Enclave for example :p Yes, it appeared in Fo2 first, but it is in Fo3 as well. Same with BoS. CL anybody? ;)

@Elitech: Yea i'm using skype and icq, and I just pmed you my Skype name.
@Allianceleaders: well sure they might give addvantages or even be stronger (esp. Enclave since FUSA starts with a civil war and a backstaber as neighbor) but it is also possible for players to band together and beat the bigger nations. Thats why I'd be for allowing them.

By the way my question concering Polarstation Zeta still stands. Since they only enter the game late they can't be picked at the start. My suggestion would be to allow the new arroyo player (if there is one) to pick them once they spawn. This is based on my assuption that they are natural allies of PSZ and members of the jihad. Natural as in they get allied via an event and form the core of the jihad.

Honestly though, u have other "big" nations that are not leaders and u can play them as well (NCR, BoSes, Vault City, Mutants), without gaining the advantage.

As for PSZ - I doubt that a New Arroyo player would wanna switch. Personally, I never would, I've been tending that nation for a decade and everything is the way i want it...

I dont mind that very much, but if it comes down to a vote, id go for "no". God Machine also spawns, ZA, Vault 10 etc., but nobody will be them. Also, opens up the venue, if the New Arroyo player is hard-pressed by Enclave (or somebody else), he can "switch".

@Sword - wanna join our evergrowing family of skype users? :D

OK, I've updated the first post again.

@Don_Leon
That's great, mate. See if your mates are interested. About 4-6 players would make a really fun game. We have to decide what to do if players can't make each session. The usual plan is for the AI to control that nation.

@Xanthor
Sure, we can make it an option for someone to play Polar Station Zeta. Why not? Let's see what players want to do.

@Elitech
My skype name is Swordofjustice_2011.

And of course the Council of Brotherhood Elders in the east is always open to negotiation. We have no desire for.... unnecessary bloodshed. :D ;)

Sword

Just a quick note. Sword you added "Game host to pause game if players become desynched (it happens). This is not counted in pause allowance." to your opening post, but it should not be the person hosting that pauses but the one that is lagging behind. I have no idea why it is that way but when i play with friends of mine and I start to lag behind it is me that has to pause for the game to catch up. If the host pauses no catchup happens for whatever reason. Thats at least my experience.
