My stance isn't against moderation it's getting rid of the chat because people like to make memes about nazis. I've never been repulsed or swamped in communist rings or nazi ones or any one. I don't get these points. It's just nonsense I don't take nonsense seriously and I've also seen many discussions in the war game chat despite some of the cancer. I think most people overact to nonsense and don't take it as nonsense. Getting offended or upset is your prerogative but it's on you.

@Graphic tfw when someone makes a personal attack and strawman in regards to a discussion about responsibility in free speech.

People like to make memes about all kinds of things. I like to make memes. I just don't find echo-chambers particularly funny. I don't find political extremism or any form of extremism funny, especially in an environment it has no place in, joking or not. People play the game to enjoy their free time. Vast majority of reasonable people don't enjoy 4chan-tier memes about jews, atleast not after the millionth time. Otherwise they'd be on 4chan or whatever.

The chat is there for discussing the game. It's not used for that. So either moderate it, or remove it. And if you don't think it's bad now: this is a WW2 game, with Germans in it. It'll be much, much worse. I, for one, am not particularly fond of the idea of wehraboos and neo-nazis using the game to rub their ideals on everyone's faces.

And that is completely meaningless as far as a chat function in a game is concerned. And I've got news for you. Philosophical discussions about what Free Speech is end at the classroom door as the government defines what free speech is and no one anywhere has absolute free speech and for good reason.

You shouldn't be allowed to scream fire in a movie theater when there is none. And there is no good reason to allow a scrolling wall of swastikas in a chatroom. Unless you are on Stormfront or something.

? These are not analogous situations at all. You sound like an angry blue haired millennial for someone who is probably over 30 years old. . .

Anyhow I think chat should be kept because to anyone with a brain it is a wealth of entertainment and anything that makes a game more fun shouldn't be removed.

"Why not?" isn't an argument either.

The chat isn't used for its intended purpose, it's just used to spread toxic crap, so what purpose does it serve for the game? It should be there, unfiltered, just because you feel like people have unlimited rights to free speech even on people's private platforms? By your logic we should be permitted to use the Steel Division forums to discuss professional wrestling and Taiwanese soap operas without fear of moderation. But if we did that the forum would be unusable for its intended purpose and thus lose its purpose for existing. But this forum is moderated, so it serves its purpose. I would be singing a different tune if Eugen had the time, resources, or inclination to properly moderate a chatroom but thus far they've shown that they do not, for whichever reason. If that continues to be the case, there's no logical reason to have a chat room in a video game that serves no other purpose than to spread a bunch of tweens in brace's edgy 4chan nazi memes.

I used the game for some quick discussion about game tactics, and also preparing games, so it served a purpose. I think that you are overreacting (like many people in this post).
If chat is moderated then it will be better, yes, but that's up to the developers, and if i have to choose i prefer an unmoderated chat than no chat at all.

No one just said why not. I said upholding free speech is pretty cool. You can disagree with that or not. Also yes it is I've seen many discussions of arguments and about the game..that's normally whats going on.

No one said organizing was against free speech this seems like another strawman for you to beat up on? Good job friendo. Secondarily letting people say and talk about what they want is plenty of reason and perfectly logical(by your standards) to let people speak. If you don't like what people have to say that's your problem and you are arguing it should be removed because you don't like what people say because you believe it's cancerous or what have you. That's subjective and not logical as you claim to be. Letting people speak freely is my choice and you aren't somehow right because you think certain things should be censored or removed. I'm not a total free speech guy either Mr. Strawman.

Let me also remind we are talking about removing a entire chat..not removing spam and shit.

So instead of disabling chat or muting you just want to remove a feature for eveyone?

It's a protection of free speech not defining free speech
wrong. "Congress shall make no law", does not protect free speech, it's something put in place to stop the government from censoring speech, not protecting it as a whole.

Anyways this is not the place for a debate on free speech. Stay on topic or the thread will be closed.

Yes. We don't let people insult others anywhere else either, and "lol I was joking" isn't an excuse. Think before you act. I feel Paradox and Eugen both have an interest in keeping it civil to up the sales of the game. If it can't be civil, let it go.

Look, everyone wants a working chat. I'd just rather it didn't look like a neo-nazi rally, but if there are no repercussions to being a twat, then that's what it will undoubtedly look like - it's literally internet 101.

Moderate, or remove.

I feel that Warchat should stay along with flares, coloured text, and symbols.

Flares, coloured text, and symbols are the most useful features of the game, my team and I use them all the time. Not to sound elitist or anything, but generally people who know how to play the game use all three of those to enhance the strategy during pregame planning and operations phase. The worse thing to happen is when a game starts and only three out of ten players have marked out which zones they're going to. In the game chat, the coloured text and icons give some personality to players.

As for Warchat, leave it the way it is. People who want to care about it can care about it, people who don't can literally just not pay attention to it. It's off to one side and only available in the menus. Worst case scenario, you can manually mute someone to moderate your own chat experience. It's exactly the same as walking down the street, you don't have to acknowledge people doing things you don't like. At the very least, if you see someone doing something stupid, maybe lighten up and smile a bit?

Long story short, communication tools are excellent, keep them that way. Adopt a laissez faire, live and let live approach is my opinion.

I think people are forgetting the golden rule of gaming, more options = better, less options = worse. That along with "just because you dont like something doesnt mean others shouldnt have it either".

As said above, 1 can literally mute people or even just turn off the chat in wargame, so why not have that option in steel division too.

Alright so this thread has gone from bad to worse and I'm locking it. Before you go starting another please keep these things in mind:
  • Our game/forum, our rules, this includes any chat associated with a game. I don't care where you are in the world, harassment, foul language, insults etc are not tolerated and you will be punished accordingly.
  • The forum rules have already been linked once in this thread, I suggest some of you go read them before continuing to post.
  • As for the original question the answer is that I don't have one at this moment. More details about the game will be revealed in the future.
