ToH2: The Olympian Rebirth
This is the discussion thread for the sequel to the Thone of Heaven game, set in a Mediterranean world of Hellenic legend.
The game is played every Sunday between 18:00 CET and 22:00 CET. Next session is Sunday 22nd May.
There will be no game Sunday 15th May.
End of session save for 1739 can be downloaded here
Latest Publicly known Temple Blessings are here. (Updated 25/03/05 with 6th level blessings).
[NOTE for all players - If you cannot make a session then it is the players responsibility to organise a sub who is conversant with what is going on. The GM's may also try and find a sub at a pinch but expect your country to be AI run if you miss a session.]
Each player takes on the persona of a Legendary Greek Hero, given the powers of immortality by the Gods (see the AAR story thread).
As we start we have the following heroes and players together with their Olympian sponsor:
Current Vp's (1739 - signifies general standing with Olympus):
Orion - 43
Perseus - 39
Odysseus - 37
Theseus - 30
Pelops - 30
Hector - 27
Midas - 18
Leonidas - 16
Bellerophon - 13
Autolycos - 5
Heracles - 2
Now for a bit about the game itself, much of which has been discussed and hammered out in this thread.
The game uses a mod_dir scenario so if you are taking part or subbing please download and unzip the latest version of the scenario Year 1711 V104 here into your EU2 directory. The latest save may be included or in the link near the top of this thread.
It will create a sub directory called Olympian_Rebirth. To play with this scenario you then simply run the file called Olympian_Rebirth.bat which you’ll find within that directory or create a desktop shortcut to eu2.exe with the parameter Olympian_Rebirth.
This is a role-playing and AAR game and the GM’s (Peter and myself) operate as such in the spirit of the classic dungeons and dragons and other similar role-playing games. Anyone who took part in ToH knows how it works. We create the game setting, introduce quests and general world affecting events. We like to see lots of wars and not too much power-gaming, not that power-gaming isn’t allowed, you just might anger the Gods that’s all
. At times we may no doubt appear ruthless, but if we are there will be a good reason for it and it will probably be due to a plot/quest going on that you are simply unaware of. As such forbearance on the part of all players is something the GM’s prize highly
. Be prepared for the unexpected and you’ll do fine!
About quests - Not everyone will get quests all the time. Be patient. The GM’s have lives outside the game that may affect how regular and detailed the quest opportunities are. As such please don’t bug them too much if you feel left out at times
. We do our best to include everyone.
Now on to the game itself. Your personification in the game is your primary hero. This is YOU for all intents and purposes. You begin as a 4/4/4 leader and as the game progresses you will gain experience to the toll of 1 XP for every 10 years that pass. In between sessions you can cash this XP in to raise your characters stats (move/fire/shock/siege). XP may also be granted for successful quests and at the whim of the Gods.
To raise fire/shock/move by 1 point it costs +1xp + current value of stat you want to raise.
To raise your siege value follows the same formula but is then multiplied by 2. e.g. to go from zero siege to +1 costs 2xp. From 1 siege to 2, costs 4xp etc.
In most situations experience will be lost if your leader is killed and requires resurrection, though some higher level spells may negate the loss.
The game is all about interacting, dealing with and worshiping the Greek Pantheon of Gods. Everyone starts off sponsored as it were by one of the 12 Olympian Gods but needn't and generally shouldn’t feel restricted to following only their starting God. In the game Fine Art Academies represent Temples to a God, and in between sessions Temples allow you to perform special actions similar to the spell system in ToH.
The way it works is as follows:
The Gods want temples dedicated to them, the more the merrier as far as they are concerned! Everyone begins with one temple in their capital which is dedicated to their starting God/ess and gives them access to that Gods spell list. Future temples can be dedicated to this same God or to any other God or Goddess and each will grant access to the Gods spell list, so the more temples you have and the more varied your worship, the more spells you'll have access to. In addition if your leader is killed he will be saved by your patron God from the underworld so long as he is in good standing, also, if your home temple (the one in your capital) is destroyed the people will spontaneously rebuild it in between sessions. Note: It stays dedicated to the same God.
In a nutshell Gods & Goddesses will each have a spell list, with different spells becoming available based on the number of overall temples you have dedicated to all the God. See the document attached further up in this post for all the details.
Orders should be emailed (no ICQ or PM's please) to gary_baines (at) btinternet.com Unless stated otherwise all orders should be sumbitted by Friday lunch-time for play on the Sunday. Also any order that targets a province must include the province number as part of the orders rather than just the province name. Without the province number the order will be ignored - You have been warned!
Finally, everyone is encouraged to contribute to the AAR thread each session, and to give you all a bit of an encouragement, each session Peter and myself will grant a bonus to 2 players each each session.
