Hello everyone! :D

I've just seen this picture:

CitiesSkylines-IL4.jpg

And I thought that I don't like the empty corners, so... will there be triangular buildings, or something similar, in Cities: Skylines to fill the empty space??
Something like this:

Yeah, I'm not a fan of empty space, too, so I tend to not build weird angles and such in my cities. Would be nice if there was something to fill those spaces so we could really go wild and densely pack in stuff. But this also might mean that you'd have to stick to certain angles, like how roads and buildings might be set up to fill a certain size block, you'd probably have to keep angled streets a certain way too (45 degrees?), so it wouldn't be totally freeform.

The devs are aware of these problems and have included a filling tool for such areas. Perhaps modders can come up with actual buildings.

Triangle buildings are something that have been missing from city builders for a long time and it'd be great to have. But in that screenshot, I'm far more concerned about the acres and acres of square green space between the backsides of buildings than I am with the little bit of corner spaces. You don't have to zoom out that far before the empty corner space sort of disappears.

Yeah, this would probably require limiting the angles you could build roads. Maybe there'd be a way to let you build roads any angle but you could only ZONE the ones that were at a few (45 & multiples of 30, probably), though that sounds kinda complicated to implement. I'd love to see it, though, as I'm OCD myself and would never build a corner that wasn't a 45 or a multiple of 30...

You´d need 45° and 135° buildings to cover both sides. Also they need a reduced collision box, otherwise you´d still would have a gap. By the seven gods, if I read one more time "modders can do it" I´ll go on a all out killing spree. We still don´t know jack about any of that tools and that´s not how it is to work anyway.
How old is that screenshot? Traffic still looks like crap there (one looooong line of cars instead of spread over many lanes) and that container ship in the background is going to collide with the bridge...

Concerning your sig:https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070112163110AA9tFiD

I wish at some point city builders will get ride of the grid for buildings.

There are some demos out there about all shape building automatically fitting a given spot :

I wish so much to have something like that in a future city builder. Sadly, it won't be C:SL.

I wouldn't worry about the traffic, I'm sure Modders ..... er

Oopps

:)

Yeah, that would be awesome. Has its downsides, too. A building would have to consist of many "puzzle pieces" thus every piece would look the same.

ESRI is a big company developing professional software for geodata processing... Not really a small videogame dev team :p

I think we don't have triangular buildings but we can put custom park in there :)

I know that but I don't want to fill every empty corner with parks, I want triangular buildings too :D
I hope Devs will include this with wall to wall buildings DLC, or in other way, modders.

Something like that would be awesome!!
Maybe in Cities: Skyline 2 haha

In real life the green bits behind the buildings on a block would soon get accessed by a small alley or narrow road and then have buildings of various kinds - like little studios and workshops, storage warehouses etc. But there would be no green grass in that area. I hope we get a terrain brush so we can choose to make chosen unzoned areas appear like concrete for example. That would also maybe enable us to paint large crop fields on unzoned areas around the agriculture and enlarge some beach areas. etc etc. Would be lovely if modders could create custom textures.

Have we been told there will be terrain painting available??

In that particular screenshot the streets are much farther apart than would normally be the case, but it would be good to be able to add backyards, bike sheds, small playgrounds or duck ponds and such to areas like that.

And yes, pie slice corner buildings would be awesome!!!
