October 1363-February 1379:
I am fairly mediocre talentwise, but am Proud and Ambitious, Stubborn and Cruel. I can be Patient, even Craven in pursuit of these goals. I also am Lustful. I chose the ambition to Become Exalted Among Men. I chose an intrigue focus and start plotting to kill my brother Tabghac. I decide to betroth myself to Titrit Sisso, a Sayyid and sister of a powerful Maghreb vassal.
I commission a painting of my father! I raise my levies, then in March 1264 I tell Uncle Artishar I am revoking one of his duchies. This of course was expected and desired. His stepson of Gilan, my cousin of Kartli, and my half brother Tabghac joining in, less so.
Both me and the rebels can raise about 30,000 men including mercenaries. As I am a coward, I do not take the field myself, arguably for the best given my martial skill. I ally with Armenia, but they are busy defending against Hungary. In September I try to eliminate my half-brother Tarkhan via boat accident, but fail. In October, the Sunni Jihad for Egypt *succeeds* and Maghreb adds it to their empire.
We defeat the rebels in detail in the twin Battles of Durdzukia and Arkhyz, inflicting very heavy losses. I then die of poor health on December 27 at the age of 17. I have reigned for 2 years. My epitapth is “For his wicked deeds, many screamed not to bury Menumarot with the other rulers of the lands, instead to toss him in an unmarked grave and without proper services. May Menumarot finally pay for his sins in the afterlife.”
We are now the 1-year-old Papacyz! My regent is the Duke of Derbent. He has participated in numerous duels and has the injuries to prove it. He is pretty competent. As for the rebel mess, everyone politely forgets about it. My mother is reasonably competent also. Uncle Artashir is the only one of them who actively hates my guts. My half-brother Tabghac is heir. He shows promise and is betrothed to Kartli’s sister.
My regent starts a private war for Alania against Uncle Artashir. However, Uncle Artashir is quickly recovering and hires mercenaries, sieges down Derbent, capturing his wives, then defeats Derbent’s army. It takes some favors, but we move to arrest Uncle Artashir in July 1366. He revolts, but this time stands alone. Derbent dies in October and I inherit his lands. The regency is claimed by my steward Karadakh. He gives himself Derbent and then sets to war-winning. In January 1367 we win a crushing victory at Arkhyz.
My spymaster converts Qwivir to Sunni Islam! Armenia manages to repulse Hungary. In July I have fun hanging out with my older sister Cilen. I gain Rowdy. We defeat the rebels again in October. In January 1368 it turns out my regent is stealing from the treasury.
In August 1368 Uncle Artashir finally surrenders. The Duchy of Gilan is given to Tornik Melik-Avanyan of Qazwin. My distant cousin Arsen gets Alania. Azerbaijan goes to Bori Bulan. Uncle Artashir is left with just the Duchy of Dihistan.
Mom decides on an Etiquette focus for me. My spymaster steals tech in July 1369. Cilen is betrothed to Gilan, Maturkka to Karli, and Sarikel to Azerbaijan. In January 1370, Kartli becomes de-jure part of the Kingdom of Derbent. My cousin Sevag becomes decedent. I have a lack of playmates and that causes me to withdraw, becoming Timid.
In February 1373 I notice my sister Sarikel is a people person. I don’t understand why she likes that. I gain Willful. Armenia has lost more land to a Thracian vassal. My regent continues to loot the treasury.
In August 1373 I start to develop a cough. In October I find someone hiding under the table. My Willful rebelliousness triumphs over my Timid nature and I don’t tell anyone. I gain Playful. The cough disappears in November.
My regent tries to persuade me it would be a fine idea for him to marry my sister Sarikel, but that somehow feels fishy. In January 1374 my cough returns. In March my court imam upsets the peasants trying to convert them. It turns out I have the Flu. The treatments suggested sound scary. I gain Craven. I recover in June. Thrace has usurped the Kingdom of Armenia and conquers Mosul from the Al-Turki.
We defeat some Khazar raiders. Gilan and Kartli declare holy wars for Jibal. In March 1375 I decide not to pursue a friendship with my half-brother Tarkhan. I gain Proud. In September Playful becomes Gregarious.
Mom decides on a diplomatic education for me. Derbent dies in July. My brother-in-law of Gilan takes over the regency. He is Zealous and Brave and generally a decent guy, though can be arbitrary. Derbent goes to his brother. He is already fighting Jibal, now I am too.
In November 1376 we defeat Jibal at the Battle of Abeyek. Gilan allies with Kartli, who is also fighting Jibal. Jibal surrenders in November 1377. Gilan splits the counties with Kartli. My marshal is fired for abusing his office. One of my council members calls a favor to force a vote to require council authority for imprisonment, which passes. There is a peasant revolt in Shirvan we crush in May 1378. We steal tech in July. The peasants have to be crushed again in January 1379. In February I come of age!
Queen Eadgifu ‘the Unfaithful’ of Thrace has seen her realm rapidly expand. She can raise a good 40,000 men. Armenia is gone. The Al-Turki are 3 counties. In the Arabian Empire the Akabids were overthrown. The following year, the Catholic leader of their imperial guard, Abdul-Lateef, seized power. However, Ethiopia is winning an invasion of Arabia and he is facing a tyranny revolt. Regardless, at least for the moment, Derbent is the only remaining Sunni power of any significance in the Middle East. The Qarmatian Ata-Malik have held their own. The Nuffarids are still alive. Vishtasabid continues to slowly expand. Our demesnes adjoin each other. Humayan isn’t up to much.
