I'm in the process of moving, so I'm not 100% sure I could play tomorrow. I could try, but I can't guarantee anything.

Ok, let's hold it off for next week, in the hope of more players and Just having settled in.

I've decided that I am going to be the Duchy of Flanders.

KoM,
I like all the rules. I am more than willing to work with them.

All,
I am starting to lean toward the Duchy of Bourgogne. There is a problem however. I just noticed that my Duke would be second in line for the Crown of France. If this is a problem, I am more than willing to move somewhere else.

Second in line is not so bad; I think it's quite likely that the King of France and his heir will be having more children? If you don't mind, though, maybe you could hold off on the assassins for a few years - in fact, maybe we could have a moratorium on assassins for the first five years for everyone, just to avoid such situations. It's likely to be a problem for me too, as I intend to take a Danish duchy and Denmark just isn't very big.

About wilcox's suggested edit, I think we should definitely have it.

can we get a listing of the current claimed duchies by chance?

and K0M thanks for the welcome back in the PM there. It's good to be back, what a trip :D

I think I'll take the Duchy of Norfolk. Well, maybe a different duchy in England or France (shame that Poitou was already claimed, that's a huge one). Well, regardless, I think it would be pretty cool if, like some other old duke games, we created our starting dukes (would also solve inheritance problems) and make them unrelated to anyone.

Actually I had two Q's that will affect my selections

1) I'm assuming that second in line to the throne is fine, but first is out (so hence no taking the Duke of Normandy)

2) The Princes of Russia (Novogard, Kiev, et al), are they available, or are they considered like Kings?

In principle, I think the Princes are available. However, I think I would prefer it if we concentrated on one region, so we could get some good fights early in the game; since pretty much everyone seems to be in Western Europe, I think it would be most optimal if you joined us there. Then, as power gets consolidated in Western Europe, the losers could start again on the fringes.

I should make it clear that this is not my ruling as GM, it is my opinion as a player; I would therefore like to hear from others whether this style suits them also.

And yes, I do agree that first in line is a bit much. And as I say, please keep the daggers in your pockets for the first five years. :)

Now, list of Duchies :

  • Sterkarm : Norfolk (this duchy does not exist, did you mean the county?)
  • King of Men : Saxony
  • Ccbasin : Bourgougne
  • Revo : Apulia
  • Justinian : Aquitaine
  • wilcox : Flanders
  • germax : Milano?

Sterk, character creation sounds interesting, what rules did you have in mind for it? Maybe I could put an Yngling in Saxony. :D

I've just been accepted to go to a college were I am most likely going to live and I will be going pretty soon, this may screw me in the long term for many reasons, don't count me out though, I just have to see what happens.

ok that's what I wanted to clear up.

And crap two of the ones that I was going to go for are taken. Looks liek I'll have to do a bit of scouting

Guys,
I for got but I am having a little outpatient surgery on Friday. I plan on being there to play but you never know how someone will feel after something like that.

Also, I want to warn the new guys a little bit. There are times that CK can be a cranky beast. So be prepared to get frustrated a little now and then. It is worth the trouble though.

All,
Wow. Looking at the Duchies chosen, I can see I am going to be in the thick of it from the get go. Now, if I just knew where germax was going to be, I would be set.

I also think we need to see who has the necessary hosting capability.

As an experienced denizen of academe, I can assure you that it does not interfere with Pdox games. Unless, of course, you're one of those pathetic people who actually needs to study, and has wrong priorities besides. But of course, you would never admit to any such thing, would you?

:D

Cc, hope your surgery doesn't mess you up. Don't worry if they give you drugs; the way you play, nobody will notice the difference. ;)

well this is my five that I'm debating. I'd like some thoughts on them if anyone would care to weigh in.

Bohemia: Nice territories, ample amounts and I can declare myself a King with a little bit. Don't knwo if it's in the spirit of the game though.
Bavaria: Decent territories, and I've got some neighbours (Milano, Saxony)
Bradbenburg: Godo territory and I can expand into hathen lands quickly.
Cumberland: One of the most powerful duchies in 1066 England
NOrmandy: Probably not available, but youv'e got to like the location
Brittany: I have a weakness for the underdogs.

So any thoguhts? Suggestions?

Of those, I like Bavaria and Cumberland best, on the grounds of having good neighbours to fight with at the start. Brittany too, but that might make France just a little too crowded.

Bavaria: Saxony is a little ways away from Bavaria. Plus, we dont really know what Duchy germax is going to be. He said a duchy in Italy which can be a few things.
