Ok, the game recap is very short: We had serious issues and didn't really get anywhere, so we'll be continuing from last week's save. Which bugs me, because I did manage an important assassination, not to mention peacing fasq, but oh well.
Well, we played for half an hour, then we crashed. It was on December 9th, which is the same date we kept crashing last week, so it looks like the save has a problem. I'll try to figure it out, but we may have to go back a year or so. I must say I don't understand how CK manages to crash on a given date, since the events are non-deterministic. Maybe someone is getting born on that day and causing trouble? That's the only non-random thing I can think of.
Sorry guys, but I might have to drop the game for a while, at least until the school year is over. I've got a lot of schoolwork lately and a bunch of AP tests to prepare for, so my weekends are going to be pretty full I think.
Anyway, see you guys in the summer probably, it's been fun.
Ok, good news: I think I found the problem with the savegame. There is a child, conceived on the 10th of March (and therefore due to be born on the 10th of December) who has no father - more accurately, no character exists with the ID listed as the child's father in the mother's stats. I believe that this is due to a very subtle bug in ck-purge, as follows. CK-purge works by removing dead, childless characters. If a male character impregnates his wife, but dies before the child is born, and has no other children, he will be removed if we save before the nine months are up. Clearly this is a fairly rare circumstance! Hence we haven't encountered it before. At any rate, the crash can be fixed by removing the child in question. I trust that even the most rabid pro-life fanatic won't object, so here is the edited save:
I must say it's nice when one's intuition about the cause of a problem is confirmed like this, and has such a neat explanation.
I do not want to give up this game. (I have an especially nice assassination lined up which will net me quite a bit of land. It's worked twice in a row, and been buggered by the crash.) It seems that for the next two weeks, at least, we'll be down to cc, fasq, me, and the possibility of germax and Sid. (Incidentally, has anyone seen germax lately?) Nevertheless, I propose that we soldier on. DEUS VULT!
I'm still uncertain about how practical the time is for me (well, not so much about the time, but more uncertain about just how desperate I am for a CK fix)... I don't suppose there's any chance of moving the game time? I don't mind staying up as late as 4am, or getting up as early as 5am, but 3-7 is just not working for me.
I definitely sympathise with you there, fasq. I suggest that it is not practical to change the time for this week, since the game is on in only a few hours; so if you don't mind, let's keep the current time for today. But perhaps we may be able to move things around for next week?
I vaguely recall that our current time is a compromise between at least two people's schedules, but I don't recall whose. I therefore suggest that we all post our possible start times again, including those which are difficult but doable, and see what we can hammer out. For now, let's stick to Fridays as the day.
Let us note the conversions: I am in PST, three hours before the rest of the Americans over in EST, who in turn are five hours before Fasq. Hence, my 1900 = cc's 2200 = Fasq's 0300.
With all this in mind, my ideal start time is 1900 PST; I can manage 1800 but that's getting difficult. Moving the time backwards is easier for me, for example 2100 would be ok - Fasq's 0500.
Game recap: Played from 1290 to 1298. Fasq and I get ontime cookies. Cc used his pagan DOW for his king Louis, and two quick Crusades were also fought, both ending in Germany getting the target. Oppland will be edited to be a direct Danish vassal. The AId countries are falling apart and also DOWing each other; France is fighting Bohemia and England, Bohemia is fighting Hungary, and both Hungary and Bohemia are dealing with rebellions. Bohemia's income was -950 at one point!
This looks very interesting, i read the thread. Can someone post a link to the AAR thread in here? I would join but finals approach and I'm a total CK noob.
