even though it's, at first, an anacronysm, the Kingdom of Kongo red pointy cross looks as though it was used for the longest period of time game-wise, and unless you're actually PLAYING Kongo it will be pretty much correct in-game as well... dunno that wavey green and yellow flag just bothers me, it's WAY too modern :p

Here are some new shields, once again... :)

MLC.gif
Melacca

Based on this:
Legend has it that a prince was fleeing from his enemies when he chanced upon this land. Whilst resting under a tree during his retreat, he witnessed the triumphant survival of a mouse deer cornered by wild dogs. Inspired by what he saw, he decided to stop his flight to face his enemies. He was successful and named the land MELAKA, after the tree under which he sat.

MKS.gif
Makassar

Just a remake of Trajanus previous shield, found here:
http://www.geurink.nl/wali-sanga/wali-sanga.htm

EDIT

This might be a good flag for Mataram, info found here:
http://www.joglosemar.co.id/pusaka_ygy.html

The king got it's power because of the holy heirlooms, the pusaka, which each posess a soul and a specific power. Once a year they are cleaned ritually with holy water and flower leaves

The heirlooms are only paraded outside Karaton as in the ancient time, in case of necessity and upon the
request of the community, for instance for combating epidemic, flood and fire. The appropriate powerful
pusakas to combat epidemic are Kanjeng Kyai Tunggal Wulung, a black flag decorated with yellow lines on edges,
with designs of a white sword, red circles in the middle and Arabic letters, flanked by Kanjeng Kyai Pareanom,
a green flag with Arabic letters. They are considered as having very strong white magic to stop wide spread diseases.

Btw, consider these shields as previews. :)

Ha, found the "source" of Paradox Zapotec shield, it's based on a rug! :D

gauado-red2-5x5.jpg

http://www.zapotecweavings.com/small1.htm

Btw, what should we use for Zapotec, a remake of Paradox shield, a different rug or something else?

Maybe a mask :confused::

Power is conveyed by illustrating human beings with clothing, adornments and postures that correspond to high status in real life, as well as through the use of masks and headdresses. By wearing a mask or headdress, the wearer was taking on another face and empowering himself to speak words of special significance. It is believed that leaders and priests wore masks and headdresses as marks of their power and authority over other members of society.

or Cocijo, the Rain God:

Most powerful and sacred of those forces was Cocijo or Lightning... Lightning was the spectacular and angry face of Sky, one of the great divisions of the Zapotec cosmos. The other division was Earth, whose spectacular and angry face was Xoo, Earthquake. Sometimes the two concepts were joined, as in the Zapotec expression for thunder: Xoo Cociyo, 'Lightning's Earthquake.

Here's the same guy but with his "hat". :)
EDIT: I've tried to make a shield out of this (redid the pic in AI), but it doesn't look good at all...

What should we use for Fez, a remake of Paradox shield or something like this:

fesg.jpg

http://www.gencat.es/icm/amenus.htm

This "flag" showed up when I searched for Fes pictures in Google...

fes.jpg

http://www.ngw.nl/int/afr/mar/fes.htm

I don't like this one at all, it's way to modern...
MKJ, you're the expert here, any ideas? :)

Btw, what colors do you guys think we should use for Orissa?

ORISSA.gif
This looks kind of boring...

For Fez I like very much the first one, but it's just a design for the poster of an exhibition that took place here in Barcelona this last summer... so I don't know whether it's very representative of Fez or not (??)

I'm hardly the expert ;) but the nation of fez was less of a deal in north africa at the time, we should be looking for the flags of the cities of Fes and Marrakech

This is the best info I've found so far for Fez:

Source: http://www.arabwebsite.com/fes.htm
In 789, a pick-axe of silver and gold -"fas" in Arabic - was presented to Idriss 1st to use in tracing the outlines of the city. Hence the name of the city.

Flag of the city of Marrakech in 1367

EDIT:

And perhaps something like this for Ethiopia?

Just for information: in the very reputable source Héraldique Européenne the webmaster has just added a new page for Wallachia.

The coat of arms is:

Valachie.gif

So, like the original version in GUFSM 0.2, and not like the latest update.

That's how the Wallachia arms looks today, in the 15th century it looked more like this.
However it should only the "eagle" and the cross, not the helmet it is standing on. So the update is correct. :)

Here can you read about the history of Wallachia and the coat of arms.

Here I am again talking to myself... :D
I found some new info about the Aztec and Inca.

Aztec:

imontyw.gif

The Spirit of Emperor
The Official Sign of The Emperor,
Montezuma I, The Aztec Emperor used this ensignia as a representation of his spirit.
He was the creator of the Empire, many architectural monuments, aquaducts, and institutions; therefore,
this sign was also a sign for creation and creativity.

The Imperial Banner
This is the graphic replica of the Aztec Imperial Banner.
The Representation of Aztec Authority.
This Emblem is often engraved on the Ancient Aztec Calendars.

Found here: http://www-rohan.sdsu.edu/dept/sdsutrio/PCI-Logos.html

For the Incas I personally think that we should use a remake of Paradox original shield.

1. The shield that I've done isn't in any way correct, it's made up
by some historian...
2. The sun was the most important symbol in the Inca empire.

This one is by Trajanus:
inca.gif

EDIT: Found this about the Maya

Hunahpu and Xbalanque
These Hero Twins overcame the forces of death, paving the way for the conception of humans. They are usually shown wearing red and white cloth headbands, a symbol of Maya rulership. The face of Hunahpu serves as a glyph for the day name ahau, meaning king.

I'm listening! Really! :) But working with the AGC is eating up too much of my time to do much more than smile and nod on the research side. Though I can certainly still do flags once it's decided what should be used.

Speaking of which:

Looking good, (as always) :) How's the AGC going btw, I haven't had the time to try it yet...

I'll start making the new shield/flags asap, probably I'll have them all done in a day or two. I'm quite stressed right now since I'm leaving in about a week...
Anyway, I'll post them here when they're done. Just let me know if there's a shield/flag that you guys don't like or agree with.
I don't wan't to be the GUFSM dictator here. :)

50 bugs listed so far, of which eight are marked critical and unresolved.

Spaaain! *whine* :)

More productively, I'm unconvinced about the Aztecs (and the site you referenced doesn't inspire much confidence); the Queztlcoatl image Paradox and version 0.2 used seem a better bet.

The shield or the flag? :p
Ok, I'll use the Aztec shield from 0.2, any suggestions about the Mayas?
I haven't really done that much research about the Aztecs or the Mayas... The things I've found so far seems made up.
Zapotec is driving me crazy, I can't find anything to go on besides those rugs... Any ideas? :)

Primarily the flag; I'm less attached to the shield (mostly because it uses so little of the area available), except to say that I like the coloring more than the red-on-white.
any suggestions about the Mayas?
Nope. The current quarterly-per-saltire graphics are definitely modern, though, so anything in-period and halfway decent-looking is preferable.

The rug actually annoyed me the least out of the Central American graphics - it's the only one that really looks like it belongs there. :) I wouldn't mind keeping it, especially since we don't have anything better anyway. :)

I'll see what I can do about the Zapotec shield, but a shield based on a rug is even worse than a shield based on a flag. :D

For the Mayas, why not make a shield with a red and white circle (the royal diadems)?
