Is there any time frame for the badly needed 1.09? A week? A month? Four months? Between the roaring sound that occurs with the Japan event and the random crashes occurring after 100 years of play in the NA 1.08 version, I have pretty much shelved this otherwise fantastic game until it is fixed.

much-needed??? whadayoutalkinaboutwillis???

the sound bug is only in the fantasy scenario, the only scenario that doesn't have anything to do with Europa Universalis. Play the GC or better yet the IGC.

The only real bug that I can see in 1.08 are:

1. desktop crashes
2. cannot break royal marriages
3. changing religion does not cancel your alliance or RM (even if otherwise noted)
4. MP stability issues

All fairly minor bugs.

Take the game off the shelve where you've put it and play the GC or IGC!! And if you really want to play the Fantasy scenario, when the sound bug occurs, just go to your save game and edit the counter relevant to the closure of japan and reset it to 0. There's a post that tells you exactly what to do.

have fun

V 1.09 will fix crashes?

I love this game, really, really, REALLY do. But the dang crashes to the desktop are sure annoying. I too have stopped investing so much time playing until they are fixing, which might be a good thing cause I was spending waaayyy too much time playing.

I have found a limited workaround in that I save OFTEN, especially before the auto yearly save. But that can be bothersome if you forget to save and then have to pull up a game several years back.

It doesn't matter which scenario I play, GC, Mercantilism, Thirty years war, independence, all crash to the desktop.

Just in case you want to know:

Asus A7V motherboard (latest drivers)
1000Ghz Thunderbird
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live!
Mitsumi CD-ROM
Maxtor ATA-100 40Gb HD (over 30Gb free)
nVidia Geforce2 MX video adapter
3Com 10/100 ethernet adapter
Microsoft USB Optical Mouse

All the latest drivers on everything.

I've tried disabling music, removing CD while playing, everything. Still crashes.

HOLY CRAP! You stole my computer, well at least pretty close:)

My new comp that I recently assembled is

Asus A7V motherboard
1000Ghz Thunderbird
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live!
Toshiba CD-ROM
IBM ATA-100 45.something Gb HD
TNT2 Ultra (Creative Labs)
3Com 10/100 ethernet adapter (3c905b-TX)
Microsoft USB Optical Mouse

I run win2k to play EU.

Now the orginal 1.0 version of the game plays great (except for horrible sound). I patched it to v1.08 and it turns into shovelware! The game crashes a good 5-30 seconds into a scenario! Every single darn time! This inhales donkey:mad: My old Pentium 2 gets almost no crashes at all on 1.08.

So, Paradox, it seems that new hardware or win2k is making EU crash faster than one can open a browser window?

Ì experienced crashes on Win 98 (p233mmx, 64 Megs) as well as win ME ( Athlon 1G, 112 megs )

This is what most bugs me. There have been really nasty postings in the forum of the german publisher before the 1.05 patch but even now the game isn't that stable.

How can I engage in multi player if I always crash?

with win2k i get a crash every 4 hours or so. with win98, i got crashes left right and centre. I think it's probably a memory leak in the application and depedning on what OS you are running IN COMBINATION with your hardware configuration, you will experience more - or less - crashes.

That's my un-technical diagnostic :D

Glad to hear from Patric that the crashes have been resolved.

A friend I have been playing multiplayer today.
We can play, but can't recover from a save,
either Autosave or regular save.
We can join, but when game is about to
start it hangs in that Village screen, progress bar half
done , on 'Reading Scenario' step. This occured
3 times, hangs at the same spot.

Frst we were using the IGC 2.0 patch, and then
we uninstalled, deleted the EU folders, and reinstalled and ran the 1.08 patch. Same problem.
Anybody else have the same problem?

I hope the 1.09 patch fixed this.

And where exactly is this post?

Thanks.

Never had a crash to desktop:

PIII - 600, 128Mb
i810 motherboard (everything integrated)- I'm cheap, I guess, but it works!
Windows 98

System often hangs when I exit EU, which is a pain at 2AM and I really, really want to sleep (ie most nights)

So Patric,

Back to the original question.....when will the 1.09 patch be out. Sorry to push but, I don't want to get too into a game and then find that a new patch will mean starting over to get the fixes.

Hope you can help.

Thanks, Ice:cool:

Griffon,

Thanks for the link. But....

Patric Answer:

"There is no date set for 1.09 as of now. We will make an announcement when we know a firm date for the release."

OK.............

Let me ask another question which will make the last one obsolete.

Will the 1.09 patch allow older version saved game to still be played with the benefits of the fixes?.

Thanks, Ice:cool:

Reading all this really made me feel better. For me the game runs smothly, but when I try to exit the computer crashes and since I always testt to see if it's ok after it can take 5min to quit. Not much of a problem compared to some of what you guys are having.

Griffon, could you provide a link to the above mentioned post of this sound problem with the Fantasy scenario? I recently bought EU and I am playing the "intruductory" Fantasy scenario to learn the game. I would like to finish it but this sound problem prevents me from continue it.

BTW, will 1.08 patch resolve this problem? I am little sceptical with these crashes mentioned because of the patch to install it. I have the English version of EU.

You will be able to play with the old saves but any changes to the features of the game won't be applied to those games and there is a possibility that the game will crash.
