Oh but you can't say that to little Vicky! He lost the throne of not one, but two Successor States to his far smarter sister and gets rewarded the rank of Precentor Martial to falsely use "robe" assets to bolster his civil war...

He's the sad face of BT history really... ;)

Smarter or not, the way Katherine's inner thoughts are written in the last few Civil War books makes her look like a caricature of a villain.

Then again, at least she didn't take a year long holiday from waging a war because she was heart broken. :p

Of course for a Steiner a year of war includes 364 days of social engagements and 1 day of actual fighting...

I'm not sure who the worst Battletech character is... Wonder Midget, Kai Allard Liao, or every single clanner.

No, the worst characters in BattleTech are the Wolf Dragoon’s (yes, all of them), Phelan and Morgan Kell, and every member of Clan Oprah Diamond Shark.

Hey, don't forget Teddy Kurita. He beat Hanse Davion. He beat Fredrich Steiner (aka Anastasius Focht), He beat Clan Nova Cat. with this haircut:

That applies to Yorinaga Kurita too then, and he was actually a cool character.

Without the Mary Sue's of BattleTech I would not have gravitated so strongly to House Kurita, House Calderon, House Amaris and Clan Smoke Jaguar.

I can live with Mary Sues in rival factions... it makes their Faction's failures all the sweet! : )

In all seriousness, Morgan Kell should win the title. If they have to print non-canon rules to explain the character, it's a bad character.

Phantom Mech! Woooooooo!

Don't fully disagree with you there - the Phantom Mech stuff could have been written out, it was pretty out of place within the setting they were trying to achieve I feel.

Having said that, I don't believe Morgan's really a Mary Sue if you ignore that. The rivalry between he and Yorinaga was great, as was the interaction they had on Terra during the Wedding. Bear in mind his age and background at this point - he grew up derided for being a 'rich kid playing war' with Patrick and then earned then went on to earn the respect he had. Drop the Phantom Mech stuff and he would have been a fantastic character.

KAL now..... such a disappointment after JXA (one of my favorite characters)....

I don't disagree, but the Phantom Mech ability is a huge part of the character and the character arc. I have a hard time looking past that. The Kell Hounds always felt to me like someone was jealous that they didn't get to write Wolf's Dragoons so they made the Hounds instead.

Besides, Morgan was the father of Phelan Kell, and that little Marty Sue can go right to hell...

You're not my coal mine supervisor!

Ahem.

Valid points - especially with the Phelan comment. There's something about all the 2nd Gen kids that's a little off - except maybe Hohiro - maybe they were trying too hard to set the tone that they were all living up to their parent's image of being the IS Gods of their times and went a little overboard? You know, like a Steiner Scout Lance could be considered a little overboard...

Depends on if you're Lyran or not - If you are, I understand how a 4x Atlas scout lance could be considered a little underpowered - unless they're all piloted by KAL, VSD, PK and GC. Give those four Atlas's and they'd have them moving faster than Locust lances.

Well there are only two types of people out there... Lyrans, and those that wish they were Lyran! :p

I don't seem to get this "Hay, look, the author is trying to write a good guy.... I must immediately despise him! Hey look that character is a scheming, totally honor-less jerk, that's who I'm going to like!' mentality that seems to be common these days. Just don't get it.

Someone basically has to be an ass-hat just to be likable.

I don't find Victor that bad, I kinda like Kai - especially his death story. I like Teddy, I mean pointing to the rat on the Legion of Vega flag and calling it "Takashi" - priceless.

Sun-Tsu I hate. If every there was a Mary Sue, that's him. Every scheming shenanigan he pulled worked 'cause everyone else was stupid or incompetent. If you take a look at what he pulled in just a few years... But he's an ass-hat so people seem to forgive the Mary Sue-ness of him.

I personally have more trouble with how Max Liao was written. To me he should have been a lot smarter - crazy, yes, but genius level smart. Ironically, more like Sun Tzu, actually.

Just my opinions. :)
