I guess forward, haven't had enough time to do this... and the "infrastructure" of the program's taking way longer than I had expected. Sorry.

Don't worry about it, take the time you need!

.

Since we're on the topic of Vicky to HOI2:

I did an export from Vicky to HOI2 once and there were black areas on the map that could not be accessed and the Axis, Allies and Communists were all different countries.

Can someone explain it to me please?

Cheers,
Yan

The black areas were probably unclaimed colonies, which don't belong to any one country and so can't get converted by the current program. As for the main alliances, my experience is there is some sort of attempt by the program to have them make sense - for example the last game I played the USA were communist at game's end, and it converted them to Comintern leader. It's necessary, since even a 1914 campaign game has the potential for hugely different outcomes from reality, but it isn't perfect. Hence (along with many more serious issues) the interest in a new converter.

my vicky > hoi2 converter doesnt want to work anymore for some reason (black screen and a window saying vicky has encountered a problem and needs to close), so i would love a 3rd party version; been desperately looking for one today to convert some of my games with :(

Hiya guys, sorry for taking so long, just thought I'd give you an update on how things are proceeding.

I basically have the nuts and bolt in place now, which means that I'll probably be able to make something happen soon. And I'm making it as customizable as I can (so that people with no programming skills can tune it).

The basic idea for conversion is this:
Pops add HoI value to their province depending on what they work with.
Vicky provinces map to HoI provinces, and their value is divided between several provinces if necessary.

I'm about half way through on this.

Then there's the problem of converting countries, treaties, military, tech, etc. This is also future work.

I haven't had as much time as I'd like to do this, and frankly it doesn't look like I'll have more time any time soon, so progress is slow. Maybe I can write something really customizable so that you guys can start helping out, I have some ideas about that, but I'm not sure how long they will take to implement...

So, to sum up: sorry for the delay, and hang in there!

Thanks for the update! Great to see that you've made some progress.

You don't have to apologize, I'm already thrilled someone is finally doing this !

And yes, I agree, customizable = good :).

*bump*

Any updates?

Sorry for this gravedigging, but Chicken (in another thread) just mentioned that there *is* a really good Victoria (1.04 or Revolutions) to HoI2 tool, made by montyP: click!. (here's the thread about it btw.)

I'm astounded that I (and apparently many others) had never heard of this!

I was just going to post that converter myself.

The ingame one is broken, if you use it, forget about events like jets or nukes or any of that, they just don't work.

The Monty P does work, and it cuts down on your ICs so if you have a huge industry score in Victoria you will have a workable industry in Hoi2.

The broken ingame converter will gie you crazy results like 2,000 ICs with you could never trade enough energy to ever use, or hundreds of planes and artillery and so on.

The drawback on the Monty converter is it only converts infantry and tanks, no HQ, artillery or anything else.

It also haves the ship totals making it more inline with the 1930s.

Truly sorry I haven't had the time to do this project, but thanks for the tip. I'll definitely check it out when I have time for a Grand Campaign...
