Vive la France!

You’ve stolen away that great power
My beauty ordained for me
Over priests and clerks, my hour,
When never a man I’d see
Would fail to offer his all in fee,
Whatever remorse he’d later show,
But what was abandoned readily,
Beggars now scorn to know.

The year has begun anew with a darkening world all around. The disgusting "puppet" state of France now all but entirely controlled by Burgandy and England, having conquered Normandie and Caux, seem unstoppable in ridding the French of their armies and attempting to claim the crown. Only the Duke of Dauphiné stands in the way to assert justice upon Henry V's wild and ambitious claims. Daupiné stands poised and ready for war with England's greedy leaders.

And so it begins.

Dauphine/France is a really fun game if you can get through the minefield to start. Get Burgundy on your side and away from the English. Maybe try for Aragon too if you can.

Great start and good luck!

Preparations for the impending war!

The Scottish, aware of the current crisis of Henry V invading France and with slightly less need for him in their homeland, have decided to strengthen the Auld Alliance and have provided us with a new Leader for our Armies! The Earl of Buchan has sailed to our aid in the face of war on our lands. This prompted an alliance between our two glorious nations. The Earl was offered a wife and so it came to pass that our nations had a royal marriage to bind us tighter. Maybe given the coming war their desicion to provide us with one of their best military leaders might come back to bite them in the bum. But who are we to care?

2.png

Soon it was the time to meet with "John the Fearless" at the Bridge of Montereau. Having made outragous demands we were quick to silence him and help weaken their nation. Unfortunately we managed to strengthen the bond between our enemies as England and Burgandy sided together.

5.png

We made an infrastructural advance towards the end of the year giving us a great boon to our yearly taxes in years to come. Let us hope that the revolt risk incurred does not come back up in the future.

7.png

Bourbon and Orleans showed their support in these troublesome times and provided us with must needed reinforcements. We thank our kind brothers in this time of anguish.

8.png

The noble's of Mainz had decided that there was parts of our land that they had a right to claim. Given our lack of a land border these claims at first seemed ludicrous, however, we agreed to pay them 50 ducats over the next 5 years in interests of not forming any more enemies.

9.png

We entered the trading market, which was good given that we own a centre of trade. We have started bargaining for business in Lyonnais and Flandern.

10.png

Towards the end of the summer of 1421 we received grave news. Champagne and Nivernais were to be ceded to Burgandy and both the parisienes and the dukes lands were to be vassals unto England. Furthermore the English now had a claim on several parts of our land and would soon be knocking on our door.

13.png

And so it came to pass that as soon as Autumn hit our lands King Henry V of England had trespassed on our lands followed a month later by Philip III of Burgandy.

Our days are, perhaps, numbered...

The first war of the Treaty of Troyes!

I began minting gold in order to pay for tax collectors and some new units of cavalry. Everyone knows that these are plains and cavalry destroy anything in its path! Thus far the war efforts were going well. My cavalry made short work of the English troops on the mainland and Scotland had successfully began to occupy the English on their own little island. For now, no English reinforcements were being spared to hit our glorious lands...

And our lands they are!!

17.png

Jean and Charles of Orleans and Bourbon respectively show their continued support of the true French monarchy with a call to arms of 12,000 men and 2,000 horses! They also offered us gold which we frivilously spent on more cavalry mercenaries to aid us in the cause. With only a bare minimum force we begin to turn the tides of battle...

18.png

If our armies hadn't been raised enough by Jean and Charles' efforts the Scots through the medium of Buchan brought us half of that again. God bless Scotland!

19.png

The time had come to press Burgandy with our demands. We had requested all 4 of our national provinces and 93 ducats for me and mine as recompense for their disgusting war on our lands. At the time, however, they had refused. They had troops in Scotland attempting to siege the Edinburgh fortress in Midlothian. We were quick to act with our small band or warships and our single transport. A quick battle later and their ships were sunk and their armies had been removed from the area surrounding Edinburgh. Unfortunately the castle had already fallen to the English.

20.png

As if this tumultous war was not enough to occupy us. Our merchants had begun stepping out of line and measures had to be taken. Measures the people would not initially like but the effort had to be made to rid us of our horrendous decentralization trends and the power of the aristocracy.

21.png

Finally with Burgandy out of the equation and willing to bow to our every demand we requested all of our national provinces. We then demanded France-Conte from our former oppressors for their guile in initially refusing our demands due to their hostilities in Scotland.
23.png

Not long afterwards the English ceded Normandy and Paris to our cause in exchange for a ceasation of hostilities in Scotland and France. We wondered what the Irish had been doing during the war...
22.png

So it came to pass that the end of the Lancastrian Wars in France had left us stronger than we initially were and with more of our land than we had even anticipated recouping! Jean of Orleans now dedicated himself to the battle with even more troops and himself to lead them.

24.png

25.png

Could this have been the end of hostilities between our countries? Was the hundred years war soon to be concluded?

26.png

No... it was not.

Indeed it is not. England still remains on the continent. Well done in the last war. Hopefully the next will be as profitable...for France. :D

It will be fun to have a Scottish, and English, and now a French AAR running simultaneously.

You seem to have survived the first storm with flying colours.

France doth become us!

The war began and a relatively undefended calais was quick to fall. Sieges in Bordeaux and armies in Caux looked to be toppling our English rivals. Our Scottish companions had unfortunately withdrawn from the hostilities due to some issues in state. A new enemy had emerged for this battle, however. Brabant, holders of our very own Artois... we seized the opportunity to destroy their armies and attack their fortresses instantly!

Wartime brings out the creative side in people... or so i'm told. Our infrastructure rose to the challenge and became more secure giving us a financial advantage over our peers.

One would think that during a war a noble would think it in his interest to pay his taxes. Alas, no such luck this day. I ordered his head on a platter as recompense for his callous actions during this troublesome time.

FRA1.png

As quickly as they had entered the hostilities they were leaving again... and worse than empty handed. Brabant's attempts to aid the English in the war had been most unfortunate... for them.

FRA2.png

JOYOUS OCCASION!! THE LANDS OF THE DAUPHIN ARE NAMED FRANCE!! GLORY BE TO GOD ON HIGH! LONG LIVE KING CHARLES VII!

FRA3.png

Brittany had somehow managed to force a devastating blow to the hands of the English by storming Wessex and yanking it from their grasp. A mighty success story, indeed for our celtic brothers!

FRA4.png

The lack of trade routes in Calais had caused a major decline in profitability and without the English connections we had no way of restoring a once exceptionally rich land.

FRA5.png

Our land now centeralized and at peace it seemed a fine time to move ourselves back home to the capital of the land.

FRA6.png

The lay of the land, 1429 was pleasing to the eye indeed. The hundred years was was finally over. The English had stopped their insane ideas about our crown.

FRA7.png

Later that year we released some troops as peace seemed to be settling in quite nicely. Our lands had been successfully reunited and only the people of Franche-Conte seemed upset about anything.

FRA8.png

The cities had started demanding their old rights. I told them to stuff their rights where the sun doesn't shine. There was a little unrest but it cleared up pretty quickly. How fickle people can be...

Regrettabley we could do nothing to stop the threat of Rodrigo laying waste to some of our proud lands in the aftermath of the Lancastrian wars. We dealt with the problem swiftly and only minor losses were sustained.

FRA9.png

FRA10.png

Almost 5 years after the wars of Lancaster had ceased the English had annexed Leinster and Desmond. Their other Irish vassals were slightly disappointed by these acts and the Scottish had suddenly switched their alleigence to that of their southernly foes. The isles looked set in their ways. We had one last part of our land to request, however, and it was occupied by Burgandy. Burgandy had annexed Brabant and moved their capital away from Bourgogne.

FRA11.png

They were to expect it. Their allies joined the fray and the war commenced. France and Brittany facing England, Scotland, Burgandy and the Irish.

Brittany in Wessex is certainly poetic.

Vive la France, indeed. A very nice AAR, I'm looking forward to the next updates!

Great AAR!

Any goals?

Not specifically. It's my first time playing as France either EU2/FTG or Vanilla/AGCEEP. And i'm playing FTG AGCEEP as you can see. I'm mostly seeing what I can do without incuring too large a badboy. Anything above 10 and I start to backtrack it. Also i'm trying to make everyone my vassal XD
