Macedon pushed out of Macedon. It's beautiful if dearly won.

Namnetia now dominated northern Gaul. Rome would have none of it.
And nor should they. It’s Rome’s job to bully and dominate er, bring peace and stability to Gaul!
The various smaller tribes were invaded one by one, for the betterment of her inhabitants, who would now see the benefits of Roman civilization.
Very moral and proper.
Massaesylia, unallied, weak and in dire need for Roman protection.
Poor lambs, Rome must protect them.
The battle was bloody, and few men returned home afterwards.
Now they’re up against a real foe, the phalanxes of Macedon.
What saved Rome was the legions of the West, which was ferried over en masse to rescue Roman Greece. Slowly, the Macedonian armies in the Peloponnese was pushed back, then obliterated, while the territory was reconquered.
A good honest fight.
Wisdom would say they should have licked their wounds and rebuild. Reality saw them do that for merely two years before turning their hungry eyes on a well-known prey, in the West.
What is wisdom compared to glory? Nothing! ;)

The Fourth Punic War
The Fourth Punic War

Having survived its most bloody and challenging war yet, it is perhaps not weird that Rome looked for easier prey for their next war. Carthage was humbled thrice by now and was in no position to withstand Rome’s might, only avoiding total oblivion because of their large size.

With only five legions set aside for the war, Rome would not need more. No real opposition was ever met. Almost no battles were had, the few that occurred happened early on and was against pitiful small opposing armies that was soon obliterated.

In the result peace settlement, Rome claimed half of what remained of Carthagian Africa, as well as a good chunk of northern Iberia. By the time the peace was reached, almost all of Carthage was under occupation. Carthage was a shadow of its former self.

With the peace settled, Rome could definitely claim to the the premier power in central Mediterranean, with Egypt dominating the south east and Macedon the east.

But Macedon had to be humbled, that much was sure. Only three years after the Fourth Punic War, Rome prepared her armies to take the fight to Anatolia proper. And this time, she planned to stay.

This is the first AAR I've looked at. It's interesting to see what I'm doing wrong.
I find that the best time go to war with a big opponents like the Etruscans and then Carthage is when they are already at war with someone else. A War on Two fronts is always bad news.
Another tactic that worked against Carthage in IR 1.0~ and I'm trying against Carthage in my current game is to have some light cavalry run around North Africa near Carthage, not capturing anything but staying ahead of any enemy units chasing them. They never come home alive.

Roger, roger!
A good outcome.

Even better.

Always true! Should be another tough fight.
Indeed it was. But the previous was definitely worse.

Welcome! I’m afraid I’m not a pro player, but I’ve done relatively well I’d say. :)
Finally got caught up, well done, I am loving the direction of this all out conquering lol. Looking forward to the next installment!
Thanks! We need to keep conquering, we’re Romans after all! Next installment might come later today, weekend latest. :)

The Fourth Macedonian War
The Fourth Macedonian War

After the previous war, which had been a dangerous war for Rome in so many ways, the Romans were eager to prove to the world they were infinitely more powerful than the Macedonians and that the previous experience was just a temporary setback.

Rome assembled her fleet, which was still smaller than the Macedonian, but not by much, and quickly ferried over all her Eastern Legions to Anatolia. The two small holdouts of Macedon in Greece was quickly overrun, but the real prize laid in the now Macedonian heartland of Asia.

Within short time, the Macedonian armies in the East were swept away, and no reinforcements came for a long time due to their ongoing war in the Levant with Egypt, who had occupied lands deep into Anatolia.

The Roman generals were eager to press forward, but the Consul decided to seek peace terms, as Rome was close to her maximum possible gains already and there was already much land to incorporate into Rome’s growing Empire.

He forgot to claim the Macedonian city in the Peloponnese, however. And Macedon ambassador was not one to point this out. Thus, one long city held out in Europe still. But Rome was finally entering Asia, and in a big way.

With the Macedonians humbled, Rome would see seven years of peace, before she would descend upon Gallia once again…

Closing in on where I am in the game now, which is not far from the end of the game either. Have had little time to play games lately, got a new job (temp teacher until the summer) which have taken much time.

Got myself Necroids and Nemesis tonight and played an hour and a half or so. Great fun, first time I've played Stellaris since last year actually. Playing necrophage, xenophobe, authorism civ. I like the new economy, for the first time since the horrible economy changes a while back I am able to actually have a good economy! Perhaps I might do an AAR in Stellaris next. We'll see. :)

A great victory, even if that one outlier was forgotten - it happens to the best of us! ;)

Heh, and you know what? I forgot in the next war with them too! I was thinking I should remember it this time, then I hit reset to change my demands and forgot to readd it. :D

The Third Gallic War
The Third Gallic War

The Third Gallic War was short but would see all of Redonia save a small strip of land close to the Gallo-Germanic behemoth to the north annexed to Rome.

eFDX8VC.png

Redonia was a mere speedbump compared to Macedonia and only three smaller Legions would be committed to her subduing, yet her submission was celebrated in Rome as a big victory.

For any and all easy victory after the bloody Macedonian wars surely showed Roman supremacy? Not only had she conquered Macedonian lands with blood and toil, but Gallia, once a power to be reckoned with, was now powerless against Rome and her armies.

The small Redonian revolt in the far north was on the other hand not even mentioned in contemporary sources, seen as part of the larger war.

With the distraction of Gaul done with, it was then time to humble Macedon once more…

Ave Nikolai! Imperator development may be halted but our work as AAR writers must continue. Rome's advance through Gaul is very impressive.
Indeed! I'm sorry the AAR got on the back burner, RL issues with my often returning anxiety issues, job load and the new Stellaris story I just had to tell made the Imperator AAR, where the game is now played to 720 AUC (and I will probably stop there, with only 7 years left of the game anyways. Nice round number!) fall behind. I've written a new entry now though!

This next entry will be the penultimate entry fwiw.
