Hi!

So my friend and I have been having some problems regarding saving our MP game. We've finally solved that particular problem by mailing the save game.

Now we've encountered a brand new and bewildering problem. Lag. No, not network latency - lag. We just started up a new game. After 10 minutes of gameplay I was in may 1420, whereas my pal was at feb 16th 1419. None of us got any latency or lag reports in game. We both have solid connections to the internet and have never experienced this problem before.

Can anyone help us?

does anyone of you two have a router? or a firewall?

Yea, he does. We've had problems with the router before. At one point we couldn't see each other at valkyrienet even though we were in the same room.
We found a page on this forum describing the settings for router though, and have applied them since. Obviously we can see and interact with each other now, so we thought the problem was solved.

But you think that the router may still be an issue?

If there are no other factors, yes.

I've had some absolutely sick problems with routers in my days... You should never trust them hehe. What's worse is that sometimes the prolems are unfixable without A) changing router (hazardous since new one may not be any better, if the problem ever was the router), B) reprogramming malfunctioning program's netcode (to which you usually don't have access), or C) changing ISP/connection (going a bit too far).

So basically we're screwed?
Can you please tell the name and mark of the router in question? PM me if you do not want to post it here in public. I have tried to resolve router problems with a few people, and most of the time the problems have been possible to solve, altough at some cases the problems have sadly remained a mystery.

isn't hamachi always an option?

Hamachi is from the devil regarding your computers security, unless you are very very very careful and absolutely know what the heck you are doing. YMMV of course :)
