I see a lot of people saying Dune, but Dune didn't really have a whole lot of interesting space battles as I recall unless you go back to butlerian jihad days.

And there is usual orginal canon vs expanded universe problem. In case of Dune there are actually two different official expanded universes.
After some thought Dune is not really good setting for 4X, unless it would be set before Time of Titans, which is pure nonsense actually. Well, Dune mod for Civ IV was great, but it still was more in climate of Dune 2 rts than books and was placed on one planet only. Dune would be best for more character driven game, and there is only one possible - Crusader Kings II. Won't happen, unless someone will build on the nice going CotC mod.

Ok, I see a lot of people looking forward to a Legend of Galactic Heroes mod, and I borrowed the blueray set from a friend and am on episode 5, does it start to pick up? xD

Edit: I should note he can't tell me one way or the other as he bought the set at a con and hasn't watched it yet himself.

I'm going to (try to) make EU mod IN SPACE! So basically, galaxy looks like earth, and planets are aligned as provinces, and you have starships instead of musketmen.

The total conversions to be honest.
Trek, Wars, B5, Firefly, Farscape, etc.
One Person?? ONE??? I am amazed. If you haven't watched Babylon 5, do so.
Babylon 5. I will join the mod team when I get Stellaris.
Mainly because it is the singular best TV series of it's kind.

A shame on the funds for Crusade.:(

Crusade.... rare has a network screwed a program so hard. Seriously, they even edited JMS' commentary for the DVD release to remove his rather biting criticism of their executive meddling. And this is after they agreed to let him it was ok for him to so. Joe was.... less than pleased.

It is very sad that such brilliant minds are told their masterpieces are rubbish. Ah well.
They be watching Babylon 5 and Crusade not whatever crap they made instead in fifty years time.

We Live in hope of her return. What little there is.

Since we have Stargates as a FTL, it's obvious that there will be a SG mod :3

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
This mod could only be completely goofy and there would be no in-between between terrible and excellent. 10/10

I am already committed to doing a Byzantium mod.

I already promised it for EvW, but now that it can't be done I go for the next best thing.
Can I help?

Also update the Darkest Hour one for 1.04 :v

Star Wars, specifically during the Great Hypersace War (ignoring "realistic" simulations of time).

Somewhat contemporaneously plausible mod. Colonization would revolve around a great number of moons and a few liveable planets. Interaction would be between factions of this close set of same-species coloniser factions, with the occasional other race if the solar systems are close enough. Basically as much depth in one system as possible.

In the realm of theoretical universes, I actually thought Wall-E touched on a potential outcome. People (the few left) being artificially kept immortal/having unusually prolonged lifespans by machines, and while in that state, they've managed to lose the drive for change. Robots control most of the galaxy, and the ex-human worlds are trash-filled deserts without much oxygen, covered in smog.

The more comedic/random space universes are also alluring. Throw in a Spore-like character/species creator, on top of much more added possible random outcomes, and you'd be golden. No shortage of freaks of nature and peculiar evolutionary creatures.
