Spiritualists are wrong because while machines are usually unable to access the Shroud, they can brute-force their entry via Aetherophasic Engine. Also, the ability of Hive Minds to coordinate their actions across the stars effectively implies the possibility that Hive Minds' link to their drones is psionic in nature. Also, Animator of Clay is a Shround entity that patronises machines, and Warform in particular was granted its blessing.

Materialists are wrong because in game it is evidenced that mind has non-insignificant effect on matter just by existing. Psionic empires can control the effects, and latent psionic empires have enough people to note the effects as an existing phenomena, but rare instances where normal empire has some unscientific events also exist.

IMHO every Fanatic ethic should be objectively wrong about something.

I agree that both Spiritualists and Materialists are wrong, and I still enjoy playing both.

While I broadly agree, the Aetherophasic Engine isn't really a relevant point here.

It basically goes like this:

"I'm extremely rich, behold my massive bank account"
"No you're not, you don't even have a bank account"
"Oh really? Observe as I rob this bank!"

Like sure, they can get into the Shroud with it, but invading the Shroud doesn't mean you have a soul even if entering the Shroud normally requires one. A lack of Shroud presence is interpreted in-game as a lack of soul, but that's a connection to it passively existing on an individual level and the AE... isn't.

My brief listing would be...

Materialists have dogmatic nonbelief of obvious truths
Spiritualists have dogmatic belief of non-sequitors
Pacifists won't be proactive about problems
Militarists are proactive about creating their own problems
Xenophobes will hate a species that is objectively literally identical to themselves
Xenophiles will love a species that is objectively literally toxic to themselves
Egalitarians don't object to having entire empires as subjects, just individual pops as slaves
Authoritarians don't object to BEING slaves, just to there not being slaves at all

So we're kind of good to go there. They're all already absurd caricatures.

Machines also have their own demon god
