Will the game start AFTER the demise of Harald Hardåde and the battle of Stamford Bridge, or BEFORE, creating a very interesting situation.

IMO, the battle could have tippeled both ways, had Harald relaxed his troops.

Ah, one can always re-take those pesky islands. :D

Which brings up an interesting question: Are Sweden, Norway and/or Denmark playable. They were 'christian kingdoms' at this time IIRC...

I would believe so, as all three kingdoms sent crusaders. One of Norways king is after all called Sigurd "Jerusalem-faerer"

Also, I can't imagine Paradox creating a game where Sweden isn't playable, and if Sweden are playable, you can be pretty sure Norway and Denmark are.

They should be. Can't make a Crusader game without the possibility to play King Sigurd of Norway - the first European King to participate active in the Crusader movement...

So I was wrong on that guess.

Since it was only two or three weeks between Stamford bridge and Hastings, it begs the question - will it start after the battle of Hastings?

The way I understand the interview with Greven/Doomie (see the sticky preview thread) it will start after Willys conquest.

Bah, I'll personally make a scenario that starts the second mr. Willy has landed on the Isles..and we will see what happenes!

I think the first one on the walls of Jerusalem in the first crusade was... Godfried of Bouillon, a Belgian, not some Norwegian wimp :p

Noone have argued anything else... Oh, and Harald Hardraade was NOT a wimp  (How can you get a byname like "Hard-ruler" if you're a wimp? ;))

Check out the Saga of Harald Hardrade :)

Now there is an understatement if I ever heard one. I'm sure both of the battle-hardened Sigurd and Harald could slash your "mighty" belgian to shreds in no time! :D

That is correct. But King Sigurd of Norway was the first ruling king of a European nation who fought in the crusades, when he participated in the capture of Sidon in 1110.

IIRC there was also a danish prince who was killed somewhere in Anatolia in 1097. The swedes, off course, prefered to stay home and beat up their finnish neighbours as usual :D

nice castle has he good for MTB in the area or drinking beer
