Not even close yet. I'm not paying for a dlc that is only a start date(as far as has been released) especially considering that there is already upteen mods that offer a 900's start date. Before im sold I need to see what else it offers, Gimme a religion revamp, revamp governments, proper empire mechanics that allow feudal empires to fracture and a route to a more bureaucratic government form to stabalize them at the expense of further quick and large expansions, customisable heresies, synods and councils, the proper fleshing out of early islam and the mutazila/ashari conflict, or just cadet houses.

But at this point why pay for a 'official' version of what a number of mods already provide?

Nah I am just pointing the fact that people craving for new dlc and more content in general.

Given the mention of Qarmatians, I'm guessing we'll finally have multiple Caliphs. I can't believe nobody's suggested that here yet!
Doesn't seem to be connected. Qarmatians as a heresy will have their own Imam, but so does any other Muslim heresy (each one has a Caliph/Sheikh/Imam).

I'm of course interested by the new start date, but even more by what new mechanics we'll have...

Historically there were multiple Sunni caliphs, though, and if they're looking at the Middle East...
I've always been bothered by the way the Umayyads aren't the Caliphate of Cordoba.

I've always had the idea of an "Andalusi" heresy for Sunni Islam. Not only would it allow for the Caliphate of Cordoba to be represented, I remember reading somewhere that the Almoravids justified their conquest of Andalusia by having their ulema declare a fatwa against the Andalusians. So it would also allow for the Almoravid conquest of Andalusia to... actually occur? AI is a lot more trigger-happy to use holy wars vs using claims, from what I see.

Plus, the Qarmatians having their own Imam... completely defeats the point of their religion? The whole point is that they believed that the Imamate genuinely stops at the 7th Imam, Muhammad ibn Isma'il. Their whole thing was refusing to accept the Fatimids as the successors of Muhammad ibn Isma'il, or any other claimant to the Sevener Imamate, really.

So they won't have any Imam. Still does not affect the number of caliphs. Although, perhaps somethink akin to antipapacy could be added, with claimant Caliph that would be the head of religion in their realm.

Personally though, I hope it's a free patch instead of an expansion, because I am broke. But I really want to play the Fatimids at their height...

Ouch, hopefully things will get better by then.I wish they make the start date free but the features as a DLC.However I won't hold against them if they don't as they are already giving us tones of awesome free stuffs.I want an expansion because of the new features and I have no interest in the new start date.
I always start in 867AD and it is basically my home now and I won't leave it.

You're assuming they'll making ruling large empires EASIER when we've specifically been asking for ways to shatter large realms and dissolve empires to simulate the collapse of the Karlings and the balkanization and infighting and decentralization of pretty much the entire map during the entire period.

This is true but can be achieved together with the introduction of more realm management variables, like more depth to trade, more depth to production, the introduction of local stability in provinces, etc...

What features would you want to see regarding internal management?

I personally believe, that Hindu realms could be divided into centre and periphery, where the periphery vassals can switch their allegiance to a new liege by themselves if accepted by him and the former liege can decide to go to war for it. This was how it historically worked and it would make India far more interesting to play. Also I would like to see a focus on India and the Muslim world with features as deep as catholicism.

Regardingg general internal management I believe there shhould be the possibility for vassals to go directly to the kings council and let them decide matters like claims on other vassals lend money investiture stuff etc.

For imperial administration there should be governors who are freely revokable and appointe dfor life only/a bettter model for the Byzantine and Islamic Empires

Best idea here! <3 Eastern Christianity can be added to it, and content the new DLC will not totally blocked by the lack of old DLCs.

I'm hoping foxes are getting added as an animal culture, and that China gets more alternate history invasions.
Korean, Japanese and maybe Vietnamese invasions.

Great idea, maybe it affects non-de-jure vassals? Honestly, that's a concept that can be applied to most of the East. The Abbasid Collapse was marked by all their governors becoming de-facto independent rulers after all, and this was just a natural progression of the collapse of central authority rather than independence wars or factions.

And on the topic of India, I'd really like to see something that can at least slightly represent the Tripartite Struggle. Perhaps if you press someone's claim and they become independent rulers, you will become their suzerain? That could represent the Pala-Pratihara-Rastrakura conflicts to place their own claimants on the throne of Kannauj.
