Yep- we've more or less finalised which countries and borders are going to be in- now the tough work is all the cabinets, events, ministers, orders of battle and soforth.

I can reveal some nations which will be in this mod, notably Hyderabad, Dravida Nadu, Turkestani Republic, Komi Republic, Mari El, Idel-Ural, Buryatia, Fengtien Clique, Guominjun, Sichuan Clique, Princely Federation, Indian People's Republic, Burma, Alsace-Lorraine, Makhnovshchina, Tatar Crimea, Abkhazia, Kalmykia, Don-Kuban Union, Hashemite Union, Assyria, Pontus, Kel Ahaggar, Rif Republic, Senussi Rebels, aaaaaand lots more.

Should be a damned good mod- I'm told it has by far some of the best music of any mod around! ;)

As Mehmet said we've made good progress, the tech-tree is also on a good way to be completed, it takes load of time to balance things and test them. About the map, we've soon completed it and it'll be posted soon enough, Mehmet arrival brought life in some areas such as Russia, Middle East and India which are now far more interesting because of the geopolitical complexity created by some of the new states that have emerged from the fall of empires such as Russia or Middle East.

We're taking a path far more different from what is often seen in alternative history, we won't take a few exotic super powers clashing for world domination, we prefer a world where loads of small states are cohabiting with some great powers which should make the situation more complicated (realistic ?) as each nation, even the smallest has different objectives and ambitions and aren't there only to fill some blanks. But do not worry, great powers are still very interesting to play as they can influence and try to shape the world the way they like it and influence the smallest nations behaviour.

Yes, as Mehmet said, development is slow because of the level of details we're going to put and because we don't like unfinished/full of bugs things at release, like a lot of games these days.

Thinking about converting it to AOD once it's released?
Probability is very high, but we'll see.

Indeed. Detail is what it's all about.
As anyone who's a fan of the Anatolian Wars Mod by Miihkali and myself will notice, I always like the most detailed cabinets possible- including all the obscure ministers nobody thinks they'll ever find. I'm currently getting as many techteams, division + unit pics, ministers and leaders as possible for Israel, Turkestani Republic, Armenia, Georgia and Tibet, and have nearly finished the Rif Republic (6 ministers! Go me! :D)

More or less, yeah. But this time with more detail- better events, more unit pics, more ministers etc.
I had originally intended to expand AWM and add Hejaz, Hadhramaut, Egypt, 'Asir, and Jebel Shammar but I thought working on something bigger was more worth the time. My abortive mod about the Civil War conflict in Mongolia and Siberia which never made it out of preliminary testing is also included in Whites & Reds. For sure, the Middle East and Siberia will be some of the most interesting areas on the map.

Any screenshot on your areas of expertise? The ones posted on the first page about the borders and such are from, i belive, back in 2007.. And I really like the fact that your anatolian wars mod became incorporated in this mod. And I think you're real teasers who won't show more of the new tech tree, dynamic events and such... I really should recommend you for my PR friend, cuz you guys really know how to increase the anticipation. :D

Ok... you want some teasing... I feel like showing something today so let's go... Basically all the work is beta so I beg your pardon for all the horrible glitches and spelling mistakes we may cross during our tour in the alternate 30ies world...

Here comes the : W&R Japanesse mini AAR !

1930. With the beginning of the new year Japan enters in a new area. The Emperor has expressed his wishes to see the country becoming the main great power in Asia at the expense of the decadent westerners...

JapCabinet.jpg

By this date Japan is a, herm.... democracy because it has a prime minister, a parliament and is a fully sendentarized and industrialized society... However the prime minister Tanaka is know to be an expansionist and for his dislike of socialism and liberalism.

Tech_Spot.jpg

As you can see this is something which is taken in account in W&R... Begin fully industrialised nations allows Japan to have access to a lot tech applications ranging from medicine to actual industrial production, making it able to accomplish the ambitions of a modern society in order to prepare for w... economical growth and population growth because we more people... to make w... work in the factories.

However Japan economy is in critical status since a few years and the crisis generated by the Americans isn't going to make things better...

Crisis.jpg

Some measures where taken just in case... :

WhiteTerror.jpg

As you can see, events have always at least two choices and never forces you to go choose a determinate way but it also comes at a price....

This first actions of the government and the army at the beginning of this year is to improve the people's political correctness with the help of the Kempetai, researching some useful infantry stuff it should already have, improve it's institutions efficiency, studying some British dreadnoughts plans they should already have and letting the general head of the staff and army : Prince Kan'in Kotohito reorganise the army using the centralised command fashion. As you can see, because his imperial majesty has to wear glasses to see things correctly our scientists made some useful visual improvements in the research panel in order to make it more catchy for the eyes...

TechResearch.jpg

Then elections came in February...

Elections.jpg

Tanaka Giichi was re-elected despite the obvious signs of his weak health... he died a few weeks after his re-election letting Inukai Tsuyoshi endorsing the role of prime minister.

During the following month the country remained silent as the rest of the world moved on, but none in Japan cared about the strange AI behaviours and build-up for w... so I'll not lose any time talking about these pesky decadent westerners and their colonial and political problems... yes we are more busy with a Chinese revolt in Taiwan !

WusheIncident.jpg

Hopefully for the Japanese the revolt was crushed in a few days but it became an good justification to increase the army budget at the great pleasure of Gen. Araki Sado, leader of the most radical militarist faction within the army ranks.

In march 1931 a coup d'état (Kudeta in Japanesse) was attempted...

Kudeta.jpg

Fearing even more radical actions the government decided to treat the issue lightly...

Then in june came the Nakamura accident...

Nakamura.jpg

A few days later came another accident... more reinforcements came.

Later in the early September after another accident the army finally crossed the Chinese frontier without asking the civil government advice and engaged combat with the Fengtian Clique's Warlord troops...

Battle.jpg

What will happen then ? Shall the Chinese sends reinforcements to their brothers in the north or will they prefer to sacrifice Manchuria to gain more time ? Will the Japanese civil government be able to repeal the attack or validate it as an official declaration of war ? Shall the militarist use the confusion take action once again in attempting another coup d'etat ? What will be the result of the next elections if they ever occur ? Will the Emperor survive an future assassination attempt ? All the answers could take different paths and to know them you'll have to wait for the mod to be released... and yes this is cruelty.

Wow, this is making me want to come back to HOI2. Will you at least give us a rough ETA? Please?

Well Narakir and I are both pretty fanatical about detail in this mod, and I've already spent a frankly grotesque amount of time on developing some of the Middle Eastern and Caucasian Nations- for example at the moment I'm completing unit pics for Israel, Azeri Republic, Armenia, Turkey, Persia and Greece- I'd be surprised if it came out in the next month, but perhaps a Beta version after then?

An impressive work, and that's just Japan!

Well we were a bit stalled for a while because my scenario editor was broken which stopped me from doing more work on the mod, but now I've been preparing some more images and stuff for it, so it should be moving along fairly rapidly from now on.
As those of you who know the Anatolian Wars Mod may be aware, I am very pedantic with ministers and cabinets- I've taken great lengths to ensure that ministers who shouldn't be there are removed and so on. For example with Bogd Khanate Mongolia, it isn't just the vanilla Mongol cabinet with Ungern as Head of State, it's an entirely newly constructed cabinet with as many ministers who served under him as I could find.
That's basically the premise for how I've tackled the areas I'm working on personally- notably Central Asia, the Caucasus, Middle East, and Siberia.

What I can say is that Narakir and I have finally finalised India. It'll be basically British territories alternating with British puppet states to reflect the Princely States which it ruled India through. Of course we can't put every Princely State in, but we do have Hyderabad, Cochin, Kashmir, and Rajputana. A Communist India will revolt later on, and when all the Princely States rebel against an already weakened Britain, India will become very interesting indeed. The Muslim Princely States may ally against the Hindus, or they may all ally against the British and/or the Communists- either way, once they've all taken their slice of British controlled India, they'll squabble amongst themselves, and Afghanistan and Tibet may well join in thanks to some interesting events.

Mongolia is interesting, too. Basically, Ungern Sternberg's regime lasted a lot longer since there were no G-dless communists for him to attack (and consequently none to slaughter him in return!)- instead, all the Mongol intellectuals and liberals have fled to Buryatia, which Ungern has claims on. There are also two other White Russian warlord Cliques- Transbaikalia (i.e Semyonov's lands) and Primorsk (i.e Kolchak's lands), either of whom he may turn to in order to complete his expansionist goals. The treaty Mongolia and Tibet signed back in 1913 may also make a reappearance as Tibet seeks Mongol help to regain some of its lost lands from Xibei San Ma.

As a fanatical Monarchist, Ungern will also have to decide between Siberia, Russia and Primorsk when the 'True Inheritor of Russia' event fires. Basically this will mean that whichever of those three nations which claim to be the sole authority of Russia (Russia itself is the Russian Provisional Government- St Petersburg, whilst Siberia is a mix between the Siberian Provisional Government and the Provisional All-Russian Government, and Primorsk is the Provisional Priamur Government. Now, should one of these continue to advocate the restoration of the Romanovs to the Russian throne, Ungern will immediately support it and probably ally with it. Primorsk may well give up hopes of monarchism and take its chances as a Japanese ally. Siberia may well drop the provisional government idea and become independent. If none of them try to become monarchist then Ungern could either ally with the Japanese or continue with his bloodshed alone.

Either way, this is designed to be a highly complex mod, with lots and lots of small nations as opposed to large numbers of large ones. Perhaps the only continent which remains unchanged are the Americas, but since they're generally boring to play as anyway, who cares? ;)
