I don't think that two games coming out within a year or so of each other is enough evidence to say that PDX will start releasing a game a year from now on.
The track record is that PDX takes a few years between games and then releases dlc for a long period of time, I doubt they'd want to spread themselves thin by releasing 4 new games in such a short period of time (of which Viccy would need a whole new dev team for), all of which will need large updates/dlc (and would probably have lower sales than releasing dlc for the existing games because >"Ew new PDX game" mentality) no matter how polished they are on release.

I will admit it's possible that PDX will continue the cycle of new games every year especially as EU4 is undeniably coming towards the end of its dev cycle (although possible updates to Africa and some other majors may be enough to keep it going for a while) but I don't see it coming a year after CK3 and as much as I want it I don't see Vic 3 coming two years after CK3.

Prove me wrong PDX, papa needs his Viccy fix!

You really can't blame us for this. While PDS did well in the early days of CK2 and EUIV, their later record, along with the near-fiascos of Stellaris and I:R updates, means that it is wise for us to be wary of any new games.

I think we can agree that the devs probably want to make Vic3.

The reason we haven't heard anything is that

(1) they're not confident they can deliver a good product with fun systems, or

(2) yeah, it's already in development but not ready for announcement.

Listening to Johan talk about Vic2's systems during PDXCon made me suspect Vicky3 may be more a challenge than fans realize.

Victorias systems are one of the most challenging sytems of the PDS games. Not sure how it would stack up against a good HoI IV ai, but it is up there.

What is also a possibilty: King developed Victoria 3 for 3 years, but now left Paradox, not only to get back to UK, but also because development became frustrating since stuff didn't work out.

Similar how HoI IV struggled alot to get into Beta for a looong time. The HoI IV team puleld trough, but hey the game was already announced at 42 dev diaries written, pretty hard to scrap everything then and start anew.

I have a feeling Paradox has a lot of internal problems right now. DDRJake is suddenly gone, Chris King is suddenly gone, the new Stellaris mobile game was outsourced to Chinese asset-stealing developers, stories of whole QA teams disappearing, etc. Hopefully they get back on the right track, but I fear they've become victims of their own success and shareholders want all the milk they can get.

CK3 looks pretty solid and Doomdark is part of the Paradox old guard who has done a pretty good job sorting out what works and what doesn't. Hopefully that marks a return to form.

In a recent interview with Shams Jorjani (Chief Business Development Officer - Business Development) and Ebba Ljungerud (CEO) it was said that Vicky 3 is, freeely translated, very very likely to be made in the near future. :)

Clearly, when @Johan said back in the day that a V3 will be coming out before 2025 - he deliberately didn't say that the reset the clock meme is actually true. Not going to say the actual date on the counter, but it's up to "before 2032" now.

I guess someone can try to mine all the reset the clock posts through the ages, and do a calculation on how much time is added to the clock if taking 2032 into account if the trend continues ;)

2032 means we'll avoid the Year 2038 Unix Epoch issue, though :D

Hmm - damn... Does this count as a "Vicky3 is confirmed" post for calculating the release date?

I would have thought that if Johan knows what is good for Paradox's wallet, he should actually push the release date closer every time there is yet another Vicky 3 post o_O

But well, since you just confirmed that there's an internal release date for Vicky, I feel compelled to say that Vicky 3 has just been confirmed :D :p

Hahaha.. one can only dream on :p

I hope at least that you're enjoying the neverending flow of tears you just triggered :(

The title under my name should be pretty self-explanatory ;)

M prediction is honestly it wont come. I want a Victoria 3, but I dont think we will get one.

The simple issue is that Victoria fans tend to forget that amongst the 4 main series, the least popular is by far Victoria. Even Paradox Devs must answer to Corporate. Imperator at least has the draw of being about Rome to attract people. Victoria's main draw is the economic system. Which is simultaneously the thing most likely to push people away from the game. Consider how we tend to constantly get people asking why simple things about the game work.

Or even more importantly, consider just how broken the economy is in the series. It either is basically literally having to do everything like in Victoria 1, or A mess that cant be figured out in 2. This isnt changing, because actually modelling an economy that actually functions like real economies is basically a Nobel Prize winning accomplishment. And would melt your computer. So what will happen is likely more people complaining about how Planned is too much work(which is none the less a legitimate complaint) despite having perfect information on the needs of pops and the nation for resources(the holy grail of planned economies) while LF is stupid as fuck at actually running a economy(YMMV, but considering RL Corporations, not unsurprising).

This means any release is going to be littered with people complaining about how nothing is getting made as soon as I say make it, people flaming about how the economics of the game are completely broken, and the invariable politics flame war that will be sanitized by many a ban. It is likely to be a total shitshow on a scale worse than Imperator.

Expect Imperator has likely made a profit. Victoria 3? I doubt the current Victoria fanbase can turn a profit. So you are going to need the non-fans to come into this game. Despite said issues. And you need to convince Corporate of this, not fans. People do like to hate on Execs....but they do exist for a reason. There does need to be someone who says we have spent too much money or to outright say this idea as presented is not worth the money spent and put the breaks on the dev team before going on.

Now, if they had been developing Vicky 3....I doubt they are now. Imperator likely ended that. It is a pity. I want a Victoria 3.

I just dont see it happening. Not without either a really good idea that only comes around once a generation in gaming or a total shitshow happening.
