Generally the switch from CK to EU is the switch from feudalism to nationalism. This switch is perhaps made a little too early since absolutism and the decline of nobility did not occur until the 16-17th Century. Therefore, EU struggles with concepts such as Royal Marriages, Personal Unions and the HRE subject/overlord-system. They are concepts that feel much more natural in CK than in EU, but on the other hand EU is an excellent simulator of exploration, colonization and the reformation which is at the very beginning of the EU timeline, so it is a hard choice where to draw the line.

The downside to the early start date of EU is of course that the later start dates are greatly underappreciated and does not receive the needed "love" from the developers. This is a shame, since the era of absolutism is arguably the best suited period for the EU game-frame.

If we are merging games, why not EU4 and Democracy 3 (notwithstanding that they're owned by different companies). I could easily imagine popping open a tab in EU and setting policies that have interesting interactions with one another.

I think that's a better complement than ck2 and eu4 which, if you have the game converter, are almost one game anyway :)
