Yes. Last year they released a video saying it wasn't Vic 3 which probably means we should take them at their word for it. Perhaps you can say the offhand / throwaway comment in the background of this video seems different but then on Paradox Interactive Twitter they wrote, "We've told you what it isn't, but what could it be?" so doesn't sound like this is going to be a big gotcha! for those waiting for Vic 3. Which, idk, is Paradox working on it? Unless they think "is it Vic 3?" has become a joke its clear lots of the classic paradox customer base are really wanting this.

ALSO, this just sounds crazy to me but on some other forum a few people (clearly not Paradox super-aficionados) were speculating that it may be CK3 ! That's just crazy talking right? I mean they're just now releasing a new patch for CK2.

Meh, CK3 is coming sooner rather than later. I suspect it'll be Vicky3>CK3>EU5, each with about a year or a year and a half in between them.

Why? Any release would probably be about 18 months from a new patch.

This new GSG from PDS which well get announced at PDXcon is seperate from the Romero Strategy game also devolped right now, isn't it?

And yeah, Paradox doesn't lie. If they explicitly say it isn't Victoria 3, then it isn't Victoria 3.

Could a Shadowrun GSG work? Because of the location in Berlin, it would be fitting.

Yes different studios.

In next a few months, Paradox will work hard to find a new name for Victoria 3 to let people think it's actually not Victoria 3 :p
They may even totally overhaul the content of it just to deny it's not Victoria 3.
There may be aliens. There may be vampires. There may be focusing on building prison.
But, faithful people can see through the facet and confirm it's still Victoria 3 in its very core. ;)

Yes, 2 different games.
And the "Romero game" will be announced during E3 in a few weeks. The PDS GSG will be announced during the ParadoxCon in October.

I think the next game is going to be fantasy space based game in the My Little Pony universe.

This is to finally give into the many calls to include both Unicorns and Space Unicorns into the Paradox product line.

:)

Problematic to draw strong conclusions from. The entirety of Imperator's playerbase is on Steam. This is not true for Victoria 2.
Actually, Victoria II already limited steam presence alone comparable to Imperator.
June 12 22:00
Imperator: 1054
Victoria II: 889
HUGE SUCCESS!

And if we'll look at 3 months graph ...well

The Romero/Paradox game called Empire of Sin was just announced. I’m intrigued! A better idea than anything I could have guessed.

Now I can’t wait to see what is announced in October!

Fantasy simply make the most sense, Stellaris is their most successful game based on sells which may mean the historical theme don't sell as well. A fantasy game can take advantage of CKII character mechanics without trying to be CKIII and thus fail and get massive red steam raitings. A fantasy game would also be new and likely unlikely any other paradox game and which would most likely help sales as it would be harder to compare it to the current dlc Heavy paradox games which would otherwise make a comparison look bad for the new game.

Other advantages is that fantasy would be something new which could help the developers from not burning themself out making the same copies over and over again and it may simply open up alot more creativity as the lack of need to stay true to history, (not to say that it is something paradox does) and reality may open up new doors to explore and exploration kind of fits a fantasy theme.

The dlc model works poorly with successors, pretty much they have two choices, release a new game at aroun 59.99$ that is more developed than the current game with +200$ dlc, or not do that and get the game reviewbombed. In the short term it seems like a lose-lose situation. The issue with the current dlc model can be seen with how Imperator: Rome getting such poor raitings. So completely new IPs that is different enough may be a better move.

This maybe out of sync, but I would love for a company, to do a modern version of The Movies. For those who don't know this was the Movie Simulation game created by Lionhead Studios in 2005, where you ran a movie company & made your own movies. The movies looked cheesy but it was a great idea & very playable for the time, & nothing really like it since. Not sure how they could go about this, but it something that could be popular if done right.

I mean, that's a good idea, but Paradox is known for creating Grand strategy war games...

I hope they actually take their time with this one, delay the game for one, two years, take the time the game really need to achieve its potential. A Disappointment on release would not be a good thing to see, give the game a chance by giving it the time it need to Blossom.

Basically Im not very sure it is a good idea for paradox to annouce a game so soon after Imperator: Rome, sure I do not know how much effort they have spent on it but the chance is that it is too Little but I very much hope not that it is the case.

Most likely it is going to either be a hit or a miss so the hope should be that it is a hit.

Very exciting.

Personally I find the Paradox Grand Strategy game announcements more exciting than any other game reveal bar none, because when they announce a new Grand Strategy game it's like the heralding of a new era.

Paradox are such legends.

We don't even know how long it's been in production, maybe it's development time was already extended.

They clearly think that I:R and the new game aren't a competetion for each other and since they most likely aren't going to release it right away, it's release will be like a year away from I:R, which is pretty normal by current industry standards.

Or it can be another Stellaris - good, but perpetually not quite there.
