Don't make the same mistakes you made in Victoria 3.
My friends and I are fans of history and Paradox games. One of our biggest complaints about Victoria 3, which in turn was perfect for us in EU4, is the notifications and the ledger.
Yes, we like simulating history and observing what happens. In EU4, we have a powerful ledger, thanks to which you can enjoy observing how the dynamics of the world and individual countries change. Was it a big problem to add this to Victoria 3 instead of the cumbersome ledger?

However, the biggest complaint about Victoria 3 is the lack of customizable notifications.
Do you want a pop-up window? No problem. Do you want an icon on the right? You say so – you have it.

The big CRIME is that when we're interested in the entire world, because we're curious about the Japanese-Korean War, for example, you can't even receive communication from that region if it's not your interest group.
Even if it does happen, you won't be informed about the outcome of the war or the terms of the peace.
Every other Paradox game has had this, even Stellaris. In Vic 3, Paradox suddenly decided to ignore such basics. I hope EU5 doesn't make these mistakes, because they determine whether the game is even playable for me. I hope I'm not in the minority, and these are important elements for others as well.

Is it known what it will look like in Eu5?

Given that you won't even see much of the world by the beginning of the game and you will need to explore it, it is quite unlikely you would receive notifications about the entire world throughout much of the game. Considered how "easy" the game appears to be right now and it will probably remain so, I think this is just almost unavoidable, I imagine many games will likely end before the entire world is even explored, because the player will already be too strong. Also there will be countless nations and so probably countless wars so being notified about each of them twice could be quite cumbersome.

As for the second point, I honestly never had an issue with that. Vic is not like hoi that if you stop staring at frontline for 10 seconds you might get encircled. There is plenty of time between building a factory here and there to check on your favourite regions of the world

Those might be reasonable concerns, except Johan has made it clear plenty of times that he disagrees with just about every major decision made during Victoria 3 development.

That's not claiming there won't be any issues, but probably closer to Civ VII's issues than to Victoria3's (though hopefully less bad than either)

Exactly. As a shogun, I dream of being informed of everything I desire. If I'm interested in the broken trade pact between Da Viet and the Khmer, the court should provide me with that information. If I'm not interested, then they shouldn't, but it's nice to have the choice.

They changed so much stuff, that it's now only the third most popular civ game
Just checked on steamcharts, currently EUIV is also the third most popular PDS game (though basically equal to fourth-place Stellaris)
last-30-day-average-simultaneously-online:
35861 hoiiv
14965 ckiii
13475 euiv
13436 stellaris
11616 victoria3
499 imperator

edit, adding in the TW and Civ games with over 5000 players:
35861 hoiiv
29233 civ VI
20437 TW Warhammer III
14965 ckiii
13475 euiv
13436 stellaris
13160 civ V
11616 victoria3
6837 civ VII
5017 TW Three Kingdoms

For an average total of 164 thousand people playing one of these 10 games on average at any moment the last month, which honestly sounds crazy to me. That's the population of Guam, Curaçao or Saint Lucia.

Going back to OP actual topic (with misleading title I will say...)

You can nowadays customize a lot of the notifications. Just go into the options (for example by clicking the engine on the right scroll notifications).

It uses very weird wording and not everything is possible, but it works. Was added a year ago now.

My main gripe is that the "ledger" the one from top left that lists something, is still buggy after so long ... Basically half of it doesn't work while paused.

But yes. Let's hope EUV has good data representation and notifications options

Where is the option to receive information, as the US, about the outbreak of the Japanese-Korean War and what the peace conditions are if this region is within my area of influence/interest?

Yeah I agree that you should have the choice to enable or disable notifications.

Victoria 3 was made by a newer generation of developers and it was the director's first project lead. Each development team has their own philosophy so I don't think its necessarily good to lump them together.
