CK2 Dev Diary#24: The 2.6.2 patch

Hello and welcome back to another CK2 Development Diary. The 2.6.2 update looms rather near now, and if everything goes to plan it should be released on Thursday (hopefully we will have an open beta on Friday). I’ll start out with the bad news; due to some unforeseen problems one of the game rules I mentioned last week will not be included with this patch: The Multiplayer Assassination rule. However, we do have two other game rules for you which you may find interesting:

  1. De jure Requirement: Default/Required. On default, nothing changes, but with “Required” characters who hold titles which have de jure land will eventually lose the title if they don’t hold any of the de jure land.
  2. Horse Lords:Nomad Stability: Unstable/Stable. Now when a Khagan dies, his vassals have the possibility to break away and form their own realms -with the new Khagan getting a CB on them. Setting “Stable” keeps the old behaviour.

There was some outcry last week because Jews and Zoroastrians didn’t also get a crusader style trait, so I’ve managed to sneak both in with the Shaddai and Gond-i Shahanshah traits. While we were in a trait-adding mood, both Cannibal and Lover’s Pox were changed from character modifiers to traits (although we have left the old modifier checks in place so ongoing games aren’t broken).

The Gender Equality gamerule and laws revealed a few problems with Muslim events always assuming Muslim rulers would be male, so we’re spend a bit of time adding the appropriate checks which should result in a more flavourful Muslim experience.

As well as this, there are plenty of small fixes and additions to many other things, but I’ll let you explore the game and/or the patchnotes to discover them for yourselves.

Ya know someone said this for Berbers and now you're saying it for Irish.

Half of me supports both of these.

But the other half of me is like yea but come on guys not everybody can have everything.
The Irish can be tribal anyway so they can get their raid on then.

In my current game, France's rulers have become Berber due to some king's fourth son from his third wife being Berber and becoming king. Strange times for France.

E: It's a chance on death. Title is destroyed. You get a strong claim on the area.
What controls the chance? Is it just a random die roll, or is it influenced by stats or something else?

I asked Doomdark about it. He changed this during Reaper's in order to prevent vassals from taking other vassals from their liege. So you cannot use the De Jure claim CB for the last title of any other vassal within the same realm.
Seconding the request for a diplo interaction that would allow us to ask the liege to transfer the vassal. There should be some way to get all our de jure vassals.

The addition of the De Jure Required rule is great. I can see this affecting titles like the Kingdom of Jerusalem and other Crusader realms.

For a character losing a title because of a De Jure rule, it'd be stated they will get a strong claim. Has there been any thought to creating a new claim that can be indefinitely inherited.?

For example, the King of Spain to this day has an historic claim to the Kingdom of Jerusalem. This would useful in game in case a later Crusade ever reclaimed Jerusalem; the Kingdom could pass to a character with this new claim and not just a random character with a weak claim.

We rode on bi to many circi, saw loti and croci in the meadow, spotted many walri in the sea and though there we had sore ani they were no viri; we are genii!

How can you say there is no rules, but then correct people to use platypi?

If bus, circus, lotus, crocus, walrus, anus, virus and genius can be exceptions, why insist on the platypus, when there is zero case for it?
But none of those end in -odes. Also several of those should be -i if you ask me.

There are always exceptions, that one is kind of odd though since bus comes from omnibus (It can go anywhere) and the plural form of that is omnibi.
It's also why I used the word custom because there are no official rules about english
English is the anarchist of languages. It takes what it wants from other languages and obeys no one's rules. Not even its own.

Quoth the Wikipedia:
Wikipedia said:
There is no universally agreed plural of "platypus" in the English language. Scientists generally use "platypuses" or simply "platypus". Colloquially, the term "platypi" is also used for the plural, although this is technically incorrect and a form of pseudo-Latin;[6] the correct Greek plural would be "platypodes".
so how about we just say that everybody is right and move on?

I'm on team -uses :) But -odes when referring to races of platypus rather than individuals.

Why is that? Why on earth Norse and Tengrism not going to have patron gods!? If that's not hardcoded then I'm going to add patron gods for Nordic Pantheon and the Steppe Pantheon in my mod, The Legend of Zendar!

Well, I think they are adding them for defensive's for some events and whatnot to give some local color as they previously were carbon copies of each other. They still are but at least one can get the feeling of local color from them now.

As people say, Tengri does have some features now (though Sky Burial should be for all Tengri) compared to before, not to mention Norse. Perhaps Norse/Tengri should just get the Hindu version of this mechanism as I understand it is simply +1/-1 thing without any particular events.

With the addition of the games greatly improved performance and all of these lovely quality of life features, is there any chance that my suggestion from last year might be a reality now? It's pitched both here and in Reddit. The response over there was massive with about 760 people liking it, a huge amount of the player base.

I'll link the forum suggestion on here though:

https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/notable-kills-list-idea-with-pictures.874045/

I think it'd be a great little addition. Just to be able to track who we and other people kill in combat or through intrigue. And now since you guys are taking suggesting and adding features. I thought it would be a perfect time to suggest it again.

Yay for more modifier to traits conversion! It looks much better to me.

Would've been great if we could get a custom made Duchies rule.

Duchies: Default/Dynamic. With "Default" turned on, everything is as usual. With “Dynamic” turned on, characters who are counts own only one or two counties and need at least three before they can make them into a duchy. The name of the duchy could possibly be the name of the county where the capital is. When they have at least three duchies they can make them into a kingdom. This is how it worked in the mod Dynamic Duchies which unfortunately isn't updated since a very long time. It would've been great if Paradox could talk to the modder about using his idea and put them in a patch.

I once had a game where the kingdom of Jerusalem was composed entirely of English territory, but the title remained.

As for permanent claims, that might make future crusades less interesting. If there's always a claimant then the title would never go to the biggest contributor to the crusade after the first one. I'd just get my crusader card punched and go home.

the Shaddai and Gond-i Shahanshah traits
Name, that you use now is one of G-d's names, and we, Jews, are very careful in using these names outside praying. So, if instead of "Shad-dai" you will use "Halutz" or "Kanai" we will be able to play without danger of saying G-d's name without reason. And it will be more flavour, too
