CK2 Dev Diary#28: Easing Executions

It’s Monday again, and you know what that means: a Dev Diary! It’s time to start talking about new features in an upcoming DLC which I can’t name yet. For DDs we prefer to talk about things we’ve already implemented, but this <Mystery DLC> is still in the very early stages so you’re going to see some mockups which hopefully convey the idea of what we are going for without being an exact representation - don’t be surprised if the final result looks rather different though.

With that said, the basic idea is to give the Intrigue screen more room for Decisions and Prisoners. As well as that, a system of filters and a set of “do to all currently shown” buttons to Release/Ransom/Execute multiple characters at once:

Ideally we’ll also have a lock button on characters so they can be excluded from mass actions, and radio buttons would likely be better than our traditional dropdown lists.

That’s it for now, I did warn you I would make some short DDs sometimes!

It's possible that limiting characters to one plot is a performance issues.
Anyway, maybe we don't need multiple plots per character, but to make it easier to join other's plots. I don't often get join plot requests and when I do it's against some character I took no notice of before. Perhaps we need an enemies list to keep track of who we want dealt with, listing the potential plot power and valid plot options, kill, revoke, etc. Also if someone is on the list, get an invitation if someone else plots against them.

this reminded me of an idea i had the other day. when nominating a successor to a bishopric can we please be able to nominate one successor to any vacant bishopric if we so choose? it's tiresome having to click and scroll multiple times to do this.

Perhaps it would be interesting to somehow have an overall "plot power" that you could share/invest among several long-term objectives at the same time. This could be represented by, for example, giving you 100% power/points for a single plot, 40% power per plot for up to 3 plots, and 20% power per plot for up to 8 plots.
i'd prefer to be able to allocate my own points to different plots. 'mneh, 10 points for you, 30 for you and as for YOU!...60!'

Please add traitor to the list so I can easily just execute all traitors.
Hmm...
That's why I like CK II's forum...

I just have a couple questions regarding potential future updates, specially since this diary is focused on interface:

1. Any chance we will see a bigger court limit than 50 before pruning starts? I thought itd be cool if we could have it scale with rank. Maybe Emperors having 60-70?

2. Also it would make keeping track of characters easier if we could organize the characters of interest into lists. Example: characters of interest list 1: for tracking good congenital courtier, List 2: for tracking children being tutored, List 3: people with good claims you are waiting to invite to your court etc

3. lastly something simple for the interface i saw mentioned by a poster in the last devdiary: Clicking the intrigue symbol next to ambition and focus in the character screen linking you to the person the plot is against. Saves you time having to look up who the character is.Specially when you have discovered plots in your court and are trying to trim on unimportant ones while retaining some that are beneficial.

I agree, this is something I have wanted for a long time.

Some kind of "Bishop queue" would be great. Aside from higher-tier bishoprics for Prince-Bishops et (which could have their own queue), I don't particularly care where a given nominee gets assigned - I would much rather have my top candidate get a slot before anyone else. Just let us rank 4-6 guys at a time and have the vacancies filled "first-slot, first-employed" based off that list.

Well, this is an iteresting idea! However, I usually take time with all the guys in my prison, to make their doom personal :D:D .. so I don't mind there is no button to execute all of them at once. :)

Any info on new portrait packs?

Considering the East African portrait pack stayed unrevealed until a few weeks before the release of Reaper's Due, I wouldn't count on getting any info about portrait packs any time soon.

That being said, I hope they finally make a portrait pack for Western/Southern Slavs.

I have hopes for early germanics, french, different arabs, late clothing, different clothes for different existing packs, western slavs, anglo-saxon.

You can only "own" one plot, but you've always been able to back others too.

Speaking of which, I wish there was more transparency regarding the plots we're backing from other AI. On the intrigue screen, it says WHO we are backing, but it's very vague on exactly what we're backing once we've forgotten what we agreed to.

I'd also love as a liege a way to join other plots I've discovered. Instead of confronting someone to stop a plot, I sometimes want to tell them, "I'm not here to stop you. On the contrary, let me help you with that..."

Also, it gives the name of the person we're being asking to plot against but not a link to them. There can be a lot of characters with the same name so looking it up manually is a hassle.

Hey Paradox
could you also implement the same Interface feature in the message settings for all your games?
I'm about dead-tired of and annoyed with always having to mark 200+ message filters, individually, to; "Open Pop-up & Pause".
This same procedure (about 10-15 minutes of gametime) everytime a new patch, hotfix and/or DLC is released...
Just add a "set-settings-for-all-messages-button" or something...

Thanks.

BTW I've been a fan of your games since EU2, love them!
-Keep historical, un-Minecraft'ish, un-Sims'ish and un-RTS'ish...

Any chance of a "close relation" option for prisoner search? I'd like to be able to avoid kinslaying executions, and checking for the blood drop icon only shows relations of my dynasty; if I've cousins in a different dynasty the malus from executing one them is still a concern, but won't be revealled unless I mouse-over and wait to read the tooltip.

Maybe make additional search options dependent on traits. eg. Organiser tends to have just about all of them. Sloth very few. Zealots have additional distinctions between cynical prisoners, heathens, heretics, or for that matter identifying captured crusaders, monks, nuns, religious nickname/suffix holding characters, and restricting their best and worst of treatment respectively.

Also, an option to identify relations, friends or courtiers of my rivals. It wouldn't do to let them escape punishment for aiding an enemy realm at all.
