CK2 Dev Diary #79 - Beautifying the Baltics

Greetings!

Work is progressing splendidly on the upcoming expansion, alas it is still much too early to start talking about any of its many features. Instead, we’ll continue our tour of the cartographer's office.

As I mentioned in the last Dev Diary we’re working our way through some of the more neglected areas of the map - primarily (but not exclusively) focusing our efforts on areas that weren’t that interesting to play in. This time around we’re teasing the upcoming changes to the Baltics, primarily based on tribes that populated the region before the Northern Crusades, again courtesy of [Arthur-PDX]. This time I thought of providing you with a side-by-side comparison, so you can see the changes for yourselves, without having to boot up the game:
Baltics Update.png

Code:
- Map Update to the Baltics
       - Major overhaul to the Baltic region (mostly encompassing the Kingdom of Lithuania's DeJure territory)
      - (Major) river Daugava moved and reshaped a bit for more accuracy
       - Minor river crossings in Lithuania reshaped for more accuracy
      - 7 provinces added to enhance pre-Livonian Order flavour
       - New duchy of Latgale added
      - All old provinces in the DeJure Lithuanian Kingdom's territory have been reshaped for more historical & cultural accuracy
      - New kingdom of Estonia, formable by holding the duchies of Estonia and the new duchy of Kalava

Please note that the time between Dev Diaries will be irregular, as we’re very early in the development cycle.

But why? Count Radbot of Klettgau built Habsburg Castle in the 1020s. The dynasty literally didn't exist before that.

I agree with WeissRaben and gotta ask why you'd even want those awful, inbred hicks in your game. Especially since the one, single member of that dynasty who wasn't a complete waste of space, Queen Marie Therese, is far outside the CK II timeline.

Sure. By that logic this whole mechanic is useless. But since it exists there is ni reason do block the Habsburgs.

Habsburgs started inbreeding after Charles 5. and there are a few more. Joseph 2, was a better ruler than hos mother. He trupy was enlightened. And of course you have to see them as all nobility in the historical context and the challenges they faced.

Sorry, but Prussia is Arthur's project, not mine. And from what I've seen of his maps, that border is spot on. I'd say he did a fantastic job.

It's only the eastern border. Look at the province of Sudovia. The border between Prussia and Lithuania should be directly in this border. With the current province of Sudovia we can't get a nice Prussian border. Otherwise the map is great, yes.

In the Baltics were a lot of diferent cultures for example in Latvia there were not only lettgalians but also curonians, semigallians , selonians and finno-ugric livs/livonians who later all together merged into latvians. So my questions are : Will there be a major culture change in the Baltics? Will there be a melting pot for the Baltic cultures?

The different languages were close enough to each-other to be lumped up in a single culture, and besides would be too small. They're represented by different tribes on the map already, like in the Volga region with the Maris and Mordvins.

Because historical reasons. What the game calls Tukums (for...whatever reason, like I said, that city only appears in 1795) was the old Liv territory, while Curland and Vanen were Curonian lands.
Couldn't be more wrong. As Tukums as a tibe place existed for very long time.It was later years what created Tukums city. But the citys name came from that it was tribal place of Tukums. So please stop spreading false information.

No more good looking borders in East Prussia :(

Indeed, I like most of the changes to the Baltics. Long ignored, much appreciated and for the most part lovely; however that new Eastern border of Ost-Prussia is horrid... I hope Paradox don't leave it like this, something needs to be done about the new "Sudovia" province.. :/

That said, the new work on the Polish territories are looking quite juicey too, all except Krakow should not be in the same duchy as Upper-Silesia.

When will be getting the "Sexifying Sweden" DD?

Just after "Dazzling Denmark" and "Breaking Bavaria", obviously :D

( ^ Is a joke)
But what about swasbuckling Swabia and befuddling Byzantium?!

Or "mediocre Moravia"?
