I always see William The Conqueror die young, sometimes he even dies William The Bastard.

Has anyone seen him live to a ripe old age?

I've yet to see him not conquer England in most of my games. Seen him get up into the 70s a couple times too.

A couple of pics from my current game:

15 and married? how did it happen? It's not even a "start date event" as I started in 1066 and the current year is 1199.

On my way to defending faith against a muslim Holy War against my lands, I wished to hire some Holy Orders... Surprise:

The Teutonic Order raised all his levies and hired the two other orders for his own Holy War :D

Last but not least: I switched to German as I am currently in Germany so I want to learn the language through playing (Nobody cares!) Anyway. And then a birth in my court:

for those who don't speak deutsch: A "Son" is born from X and Y. Now I don't know what a "son" instead of a son implies for the kid's future, but it looks like his parents doubt of his manliness :D

It could be a random event. In my current game, my current duke's best friend's wife just died, and the friend then asked for help finding a new wife. I agreed to help him, thinking that I could just hook him up with some random 40-year old widow in the middle of nowhere (since he was kind of... old, approaching his fifties), but then I guess what the event does is make a new random wife appear, except that mine also happened to be a fifteen year old. She had good traits, though, so it was cool, but it was a little... odd.

Even odder is the fact that the best friend looks exactly like the guy in that screenshot.

In my game he died in 1104, which I think would have put him at 73. He was still the Bastard, and marshal of France.

I've managed a 93 year old William the Conqueror ... when he got around dying at that age he was a : ruler of Frankia (Crown, everything except northen burgundy), England (crown), Jerusalem(crown), France (crown), Wales, Navarra, Northern half of Aragon, a third of Ireland and the scottish lowlands ... needless to say, went splat when he died (but what an exit)

It's something the AI does, at least to know knowledge, against invasions since more land taken = more to the victor. Plus it seems muslim invasions remove the income loss of recently conquered/religion/culture if the county is taken before victory is declared.

Damn Yenzen, every time I see you make a post I keep thinking... "hang on, I don't remember writing that"

All hail Harald the Conqueror! William died in battle pretty close to winning and Harald with the help of Denmark and Duke of the Isles cleaned up the rest of the English armies and then just sieged them down.

So I'm playing the Duke of Valois when my wife inherits the crown of France. Sweet, I get promoted to "king", and our little rascal Roger will inherit the crown somewhere down the road. However, the queen does take Roger with her to the royal court at Dijon, and since I care deeply for the education of the lad I ask if he can be my ward. Her reply?

I've heard of distrust in marriages, but this is ridiculous.

Despite having the fastest conclaves in recorded history, Christmas 1090 was not a good time to be pope.

I was the Abyssinians and in-order to stay alive I set up an alliance with the Byzantine Empire by marrying their daughtersto me... but, this created a problem. The current Emperor felt like he should die a bit early leaving my wife in charge! I now become the Emperor of Abyssinia and my wife is the Empress of the Byzantine Empire leaving my sons to soon rule the joint Empire! Problem is we're Monophystite and Ethopian and they were Orthodox and Greek... so to the best of my efforts I tried to convert everyone before it was too late but my wife was assassinated and my son ruled over the Byzantine Empire and proceeded to lose about half of it. Oh well, at least I have their mighty crown.
