Imperial German scientists are now working on a theoretical study of Magneto-Plasma Drive technology. This technology offers the possibility of increasing our fleet speed by about +50%... not nearly enough to match the Hippies, but probably more advanced than anything the Bugs have in their arsenal.

So the suggested names are:

New Bohemia (for A-III) and New Brandenburg (for A-II)

Nicolas (for A-III) and Louis (for A-II) - Nicolas-Louis Lacaille was the astronomer who mapped this star.

Noco (for A-III) and Noco II (for A-II) - Kapitan zur See Noco in SMR Hahn discovered these worlds.

Any more?
How about for Noco(A-III) and Hahn(A-II)

New Bohemia and New Brandenburg would fit the theme best I think.

The General class Battle Management Vessels SMR Clausewitz, Schlieffen, Moltke and Hoffman are due to be launched in a few months. Then they can join the training squadron to raise their combat efficiency.

... if you're wondering "Who the heck is Hoffman?", he was the real architect of the victory at Tannenburg. Ludendorf got the credit, but Hoffman did the work.

Can we see the stats on the General Class Battle Management ships?

Oh, it's back. And it's looking glorious!

About Delta Pavonis, I suspect either the Bugs managed to destroy the Hippies, or the Hippies are fully depleted - I won't rule out their ships trying to ram Bug scouts when all missiles have been used, it's happened before. Of course, it would be a bit risky to send a German scout to check, and apparently we don't need to survey the system anymore, but still.

Meanwhile, the commercial sector of the economy (NOT under my control, it's run by capitalists) decided to exploit the new colony and sold 2.2 million tickets to the new planet. It delivered 2.2 million new colonists... to a planet that had available life support for only 100,000.
That's the risk when you have jump gates ;)

Meanwhile, Hindenburg was sleeping all along. Or so he said :D

The first of the new Magneto-Plasma engines has been designed, and when the opportunity affords, we can re-engine our Carriers and Battle Management Vessels.

The new engines offer a boost to both speed and operating range:

5120 kps instead of 3840 kps.
70.5 billion km instead of 51.5 billion km.

Naturally our Carriers won't actually have quite that high an operating range, since some of the fuel is for the Fighters rather than for the mother-ship.

Unfortunately, while you can upgrade the engine of every other vessel, there is no in-game mechanic for re-engining a Fighter. I'm thinking of just building a couple hundred new-model Fighters (with an uprated engine) to represent the amount of time, effort and expense required, then using command mode to swap the engines manually.

The point is that my best and newest Fighters would naturally be given to my most experienced crews, not to untrained noobs... and the above method is the only way to actually do that in-game.

The first seven (out of eight) Constellation class Fleet Carriers have finished their shakedown and working-up cruises, and have joined the Battle Fleet at 100% combat readiness. They are joined by the first two (out of an indefinite number) Sturm class Gauss Point Defense Frigates, also at 100% readiness. The seven ready Carriers carry a total of 231 Strike Fighters.

One more Fleet Carrier and four more Gauss PD Frigates are in shakedown and training, while four General class Battle Management Vessels, three more Gauss PD Frigates and the first three Laser PD Frigates are all under construction.

Civilian construction continues apace, with additional orbital fuel refining platforms and terraforming platforms under construction. Once the new Magneto-Plasma designs are finalized, we will resume construction of Freighters.

Our scouts have finally completed their jump-point survey of the Altair system, and have reported that this entire branch... Sol => Struve 2398 => Altair... is a dead end, except for the ever-present possibility of hidden, undetectable jump connections.

So it seems (barring any hidden jump points) that the Sol system has only two jump connections to the rest of the galaxy: one leading directly onto the Bugs' super-highway at Luyten 726-8, and the other leading toward the zone of space dominated by the Hippies.

We have colonized two planets in the Lacaille 8760 system, two jumps from Earth along the Bugs' super-highway... and the Bugs have raised no objection to this. We are currently extending the jump-gate highway through the Sol system in the direction of Hippie-controlled space.

Not sure quite what to make of the latest Bug encounter.

We currently (as in: right now) have a single Bug ship in the Sol system. Thermal signature 324, which sounds like a warship or scout ship (although I haven't tried to paint it with active sensors to determine its displacement). It has been swanning around in the outer system, staying mostly in the region between the orbits of Saturn and Neptune, and maneuvering around in what appears to be a random fashion... first following a course of exactly 180 degrees (there were no visible destination bodies along that course, except possibly Oort objects billions of km further out), then suddenly halting in place and sitting still for a few weeks.

It acts like a scout ship inspecting asteroids or comets... except that there aren't any asteroids or comets near its flight path. It could be a training mission, but why come to our home system to conduct training? Why not do that at home?

In any case, it doesn't seem hostile... and with literally hundreds of Strike Fighters already trained up to 100% efficiency, I'm not very worried about the possibility. Anyone (including the Hippies) who attacked us within the range of Earth's battle management radars would get their ass handed to them in short order.

One hundred and four Bug warships have entered the Sol system, coming from the jump-gate that leads in the direction of Hippie space. Have they whacked the Hippies for us while we were building our fleet?

The alternative is that they're coming to whack us. Which one sounds the likeliest - considering Hippies shoot everyone on sight, and we're supposed to be best buddies with the Bugs?

Mars has been fully terraformed to class-0. This removes the population limits and eliminates the need for life-support infrastructure... so the infrastructure already on Mars can now be sent elsewhere.

And then the civilians can assist in transferring even more unwanted subjects to their new home in the colonies!

Here is a quick state-of-the-fleet summary:

We have completed the first four up-rated General II class Battle Management Vessels, and they are currently undergoing training cruises to raise their combat efficiency. Our four previously-built General class Battle Management Vessels (slower and with less powerful radars than the General II class) are now being upgraded to General II class.

Seven of our eight Constellation class Fleet Carriers have finished their training (and are now at 100% combat efficiency) while the eighth is still in training. Plans are underway to upgrade all eight vessels to Constellation II class. All have been re-equipped with improved Vogel II strike fighters, and some of the older model strike fighters have been ear-marked to defend the colonies. Airfields and battle management radars are already under construction on the colony worlds.

Our escort vessels... nine Gauss PD and six Laser PD frigates... are also being upgraded to the new models (Sturm II and Blitz II classes) in order to give all of our combat ships a uniform fleet speed.

The first group of naval auxiliary vessels is now under construction: Tankers. We are also planning to build some Ammunition ships, and possibly some towed hangars for re-arming our Monitors... these are small (1000 ton) Fast Attack Craft each armed with 20 size-4 Box Launchers.

We need three more names for the second run of Generals. General 005 will be von Francois, but names are needed for 006 - 008... (how about von Lettow-Vorbeck, von Mackensen, and Liman von Sanders?)

Names sound good to me.

Aye.
