EU4 - Development Diary - 12th of February 2019

Good day all. After last week's announcement that EU4 will be switching to 64-bit we saw a lot of comments about what people thought this means and does not mean. To clear up misconceptions we'd like to present a more tech-focused dev diary, but wouldn't be able to do such a topic justice by today, so we'll dive into it next week and today let the Europa Universalis Board Game take today's spotlight.

Going full circle, EU, which started as a board game before entering the digital age, returns to its roots. Those who were at PDXCon last year had an opportunity to get first-hand experience with it, so for more information

Europa Universalis the Board Game DD#6

You can also find their previous Dev Diaries here: EU the Board Game forum

As for the development of the Europa Universalis video game, we continue to work through tech debt, a topic deserving of its own dev diary. It'll be a while before we have content from the game to discuss and show off, but it'll be more than worth the wait.

I’m not quite sure what I was expecting from this DD... but ok.
Board game looks neat and I’ll probably pick it up for my board game nights at least.

Well it would be nice to at least talk about what the possibilities of moving to 64bit actually does to benefit the game. The lack of proper DDs two weeks in a row has been pretty disappointing.

It would be fine, if you just moved the DevDiary about clearing the 64-bit topic up by few days and just said okay, but for now you just get a Board game one,
but if the topic for todays is going to be presented in the next week, then it just means this DevDiary is about literally nothing. Quite disappointing.

cop out, been refreshing all morning... Oh well.

At least we have the I:R dev clash to look forward to...

Dear Devs, some of us often forget that game development costs money and time and that you are not our slaves. I must apologize.

That said, I hope you take the profits you earn from your various side projects (unit packs, board games, etc.) and reinvest them into what makes PDX unique and great - the depth and realism of the strategic games. I sincerely believe that is best for the long term value of the Company. Thank you.

I mean, was an update or gamedesign-share-moment too much for today?

I get it, time is valuable, but still.

We've gotten far more interesting filler-diaries before in other years. You guys have more time, more personel and want to include the community more; where are the results?

Uhm... Alright then. Board game, and not much else.
Perhaps we could take this time then to talk about the recently implemented restriction to changing capital between continents? Your silence on the matter is getting suspicious...

i know it takes time to get proper ideas what and how to change, so take your time! I would wait months if after that the games feels a lot more imersive and the features more working together.
Go on!

Might as well have just posted saying 'No Dev Diary this week' than give us a late one that's basically just an advert for the Board Game.

My concern is the lack of map moddability of that game...

:D

I know it is good that you guys take your time developing the DLC and the like, but there are still a lot of things that could use adressing or PR in general.

I mean, Notec-province with the city of Notec, anyone? Complete joke.
