Catholic Sweden is Sweden, not Svea Rike. Hence Catholic Germany should be Germany, not Deutschland. If Germany was pagan, it would make sense to have it as Deutschland
That's a slippery slope... The Aztec Empire is as pagan as can be, but not called Ēxcān Tlahtōlōyān in-game. I think it's safe to admit that Paradox is wildly inconsistent regarding endonyms and exonyms :|

The only real exception to the above is Ireland, and some of the other Celtic countries. Most people in Ireland nowadays speak English as their first language, whereas this was not the case even 150 years ago. English is the generic language for most localisations, except some where it is now the most commonly spoken but was not back in the day (Ireland, Scotland, Wales). I guess Brittany was added because it's also Celtic.

agreed!
My point was that the game tries to be understandable and should not use localized names in English. In Europe, some titles are localized if they are religiously different - and as such that naming might be possible and might make some sense. But don't take things literally and out of context.
The game is not and will never be 100% consistent and - thankfully - does not have hard rules on this. Hence any argument in this discussion - if taken out of context - might end up as slippery slope.

The main point is:
As I said, if a German wants Germany to be called Deutschland, he should play it in Deutsch-German localisation, or use SWMH mod from HIP and fully enjoy the Babel. Don't expect it in English version.

It would be so wonderful and helpful if we could see small bios like these on the ruler selection screen on start-up! ;)

Or please at least put wiki links to the rulers on the start screen. It would make character choice so much better, more immersive, more enticing. In a few weeks (or days, even) I won't remember anymore who's who and what makes them interesting, and it would be so awesome to have those descriptions easily accessible when selecting your ruler.

This would be my no. 1 feature request.:)

@Serenity84 @dam1234 not sure what you guys disagree with, but facts are clear:

if Sweden is catholic and feudal (like Germany in 936) it is called Sweden, not anything else.

anyway to avoid confusion, I edited my post to make it completely clear
Catholic feudal Sweden is Sweden, not Svea Rike. Hence Catholic feudal Germany should be Germany, not Deutschland. If Germany was tribal and pagan, it might make sense to have it as Deutschland - although I think it should still be better as Germany
You can disagree with facts, but that won't change them.

Those exceptions also include Sweden being named Svea Rike when ruled by a Swede, because Paradox is biased like that. ;)

That line has been commented out for quite some time; the only culture that has something special for Sweden is Norse (Sviþjod). Religion/government doesn't factor in at all.

The therm Deutsch came only in use after Otto tried to recreate the attempted recreation of the Roman empire (=carolingian empire) so a tribal and/or pagan kingdom of deutschland woud make littel sense since by that time the area was bouth very catholic and feudal

I think Svae Rike is called such as an Easter Egg: an old Paradox game was called Svae Rike

Shouldn't everything north and west of Vänern be part of Norway?
Surely you mean north and west of Gotland, yes?

North and west of Constantinople?

Maybe Lanka, that sounds right.

Well, 99.99% of the characters that exists in CK2 have randomized traits. I could've sat down and made traits for every character that I thought was cool, sure, but it is time consuming to add something that is already uncommon in the game. Besides Charlemagne, easter egg characters, some special Han characters and the new characters used for the Feature Ruler, I am not sure if there is any characters who have completely set traits.

Have you considered the fact that this task would be very amenable to crowd-sourcing?

Why not open a few threads on the forum to collect proposals for fixed character traits/stats for each starting date, and then occasionally check back and review the proposals?

I think the manpower of an army of enthusiastic fans, too happy to fish through obscure sources to document their favorite characters, would easily overwhelm anything a handful of developers could muster.

Thanks for correcting me. So the term Deutschland makes no sense before Otto.
And so it is during and after Otto, because in English Deutsch is German. Hence in English game it is called German. As I said. If you want Deutsch, play in Deutsch

PS: My point about pagan and tribal Germany was not because I would want to call tribal pagan Germany Deutschland. The point was made in order to draw some similarility to Sweden. Which was - as we learned - wrong assumption. That means, Germany should never be called Deutschland in English version of game. Neither before, during, nor after Otto's reign.

Ah, but then you'll have arguments over just how chaste and pious this or that guy is. Imagine the random culture wars of what the people living wherever should be, and multiply that to the personal level.

Particularly in cases where someone is beloved in one country/area and despised in another.

Turns out I was wrong, I thought Sweden had a weird Swedish name when Swedish.

I guess in the end it comes down to what the developers understant under the "Culture titels name" -law.
I just wanted to ask the developers if they coud consider changing it so that when the "culture titels name" -law is enabled and the kingdom of germany is held by a christian, german, feudal the title changes to Kingdom of Deutschland like it does for wales, ireland etc.
you can always deactivate the law so all titels have the english name

What about Serbia?
