I suppose someone could make a mod that simulates the effects using vicky 2 pops and such, but I don't know why anyone would want to make it, let alone play it.
You are talking about a modding 'community' that produced the HOI4 anime mod, it is unwise to under-estimate the depths to which they will sink.

Are we equating that with that?

Not sure what the point is with HOI. People aren't that important in that game. CK anime mods makes at least a little more sense. And those that add and expand to the animal kingdom setting.

I really want CK3 to have that at some point, and fully render 3d models of upright and dressed polar bears etc.

I'd say that having the available "pops" for manpower pools for things like infantry, tanks, aviation, naval, etc would be nice... being able to reflect the late-war pinch on US/UK infantry formations or how Germany and Japan had ever-shrinking pools of trained aviators unraveled their air forces would be nice.

It'd be interesting to simulate how much greater war era navies and so on sucked up manpower. Especially before diesel became standard but after dreadnoughts, We're talking thousands of people just just power the engines of the fleets. And they're all solidly working class, whilst the officers are upper to middle still, which makes navies much more susceptible to rebellion and revolution than the army is.

Lots of fun to be had…

The end of year AARland awards are still ongoing and have two days left to go, in case anyone wants to go vote and have a look at all the best and most recommended AARs updated this year.

There is of course no obligation to vote for this or any other AAR, but I would go check out the thread anyway to see good reading suggestions.

(Also I'm debating whether to get and test out the new DLC for super Ged, as this is ultimately a tutorial and 'first look at new thing' AAR. Thoughts?)

The culture rework and the 3D court menu are the only things I know the DLC does since I haven't been following it that closely. But creating a uniquely "Gedian" culture seems like something that would fit this AAR.

"Ged, you super series has been cancelled. Instead, we're putting you in a room with no windows and lots of stuff. You get to look at the stuff and sit on things, but you cant leave the room of stuff until you die. We will occasionally have challenges in the room of stuff, but not very often. Once every five years or so."
"...can I still have freaky sex with my witch wife?"
"...yes."
Geddian culture could be fun. Especially as I could make 'Gedi Knights' and 'monks', etc.

"Look Ged Junior, everything the light touches is our kingdom."
"What about that dark wet bit?"
"That is the Sea. You must never go there, until it is time for you to die."
"When will that be?"
"Whenever you lose a battle. Or sometimes if you get lost."

Howdy all!

Community Manager Sonic Pariah here to inform you of some really cool news from the Crusader Kings team.

While the entire Stockholm team is hard at work with Royal Court and making sure all the feedback, suggestions, and details are ironed out (specifically Patch 1.5.1 coming Soon™), we have had another team over at Lab42 doing what they do best:
BRINGING CRUSADER KINGS TO XBOX X AND S AS WELL AS PLAYSTATION 5!

Working with Paradox and Lab42 on the joint vision for an adaptation, and not just a port, of Crusader Kings III to consoles has been challenging and rewarding for everyone involved. The base vision was to bring the highly regarded Crusader Kings franchise to a new console audience, bringing enjoyment to as many people as possible.

The Lab42 team has taken a flexible approach to development – responding to Paradox expertise and user testing & feedback, which has helped shape the development priorities throughout the adaptation. This approach will continue post launch, where Lab42 will continue to be flexible to allow consumer feedback to shape the flow of updates, patches and new features.

While it wasn’t an easy task to bring everything to life on consoles, it was definitely fulfilling and highly satisfying to see once the first versions came to life. While work and progress is still being made on the console version, it is a process and still being worked on diligently by the Lab42 team. Certain features were easily adapted for the console setup while others needed to be completely reimagined from the ground up. As you can imagine, this requires quite a resourceful and dedicated team, and we are confident that the Lab42 Team have it well in hand!

While the teams are hard at work on their respective projects, we will be more than happy to keep you up to date on news and any possible dates as they become available. In the meantime, please enjoy Royal Court and will have more info for you in the weeks to come!

Cheers,

-SP

Not sure what you are so concerned about. Everyone knew massively simplified and meme-heavy was the direction Paradox wanted to go, this is just another step along that path.

On the plus side it means players get warning of incoming "features", I can see the automated simplified warfare from the Xbox version coming to PC. It'll be more consistent with the automated simplified warfare of HOI IV and free up valuable player time to make their talking horse a councillor and murdering every single person between them and the throne.

It's curtains to the naval update idea where boats are finally added into CK3. Pretty sure this news means that naval warfare is pretty much going to be gone from all games going forwards if they're going on the consoles as well.

Hopefully similar backlash and failure of Civilization Revolution on consoles will lead to a refocused PC game. We had CIV 4, CIV Revolutions, and rhen the amazing CIV5.

Patch 1.5.1.This fills me with hope/dread
As you all know, for you read this AAR religiously and follow CK3 with baited breath, Royal Court has been out for a while now. This is, apparently, being counted as fhe first 'proper' expansion for CK3 (Northern Lords, being a mere twenty of your earth pounds, was a small add on pack for fuzzy cloaks and silly hats).

I have not yet played Royal Court, but it seems it will be excellent Ged fodder if the patch notes for it are anything to go by.

The list is as follows, but I must give special attention to the files that apparently now mean units and armies will no longer 'get lost'. Either this means 'no longer wander off' into other, neutral' countries. Or...possibly...perhaps...no longer march into the sea upon defeat.

We can but dare to dream.

Here's the link to the dev diary:

And here are the patch notes worthy of note:

- AI's will now leave factions more quickly when they are pleased with you as their liege
- AI's will no longer press factions for Claimants they like if they also like their current liege a lot, with a decreasing chance at higher opinions (the AI will be less likely to press a claimant they have 80 opinion of if they have 60 opinion of their liege, for example)

Hmm. Presumably this is to stop awkward moments where the realm is very happy with the current ruler but that one bastard client is just oh so convincing.

[BGCOLOR=rgb(51, 53, 63)]- Added a Game Rule (Empire Obscurity) that makes empires that control below 20% of their De Jure counties be destroyed. This should solve empires sticking around forever as micro-realms.[/BGCOLOR]

This is a fantastic rule that I hope shows up and works in many games. Sure, people claim to be the so and so empire three centuries later but it gets in the way of new players in the region and makes them more likely to try and rebuild old empires rather than forge new ones.

[BGCOLOR=rgb(51, 53, 63)]- Tweaked various factors in the war for England, in order to reduce the chances of Harold winning[/BGCOLOR]
[BGCOLOR=rgb(51, 53, 63)]- AI now moves capital to London on victory in Norman conquest, if possible[/BGCOLOR]

This is actually much needed and lasted a surprisingly long time in game. As everyone remembers from the first Ged run, England was in a very long war with Normans and Norwegians, which allowed us to unify and Wales to get a little wealthy before Normandy finally took the kingdom after 20 years.

[BGCOLOR=rgb(51, 53, 63)]- All Tutorials and Game Concepts now mention Tribals and the differences they have[/BGCOLOR]

Ho ho. Watch out for this in the next run!

[BGCOLOR=rgb(51, 53, 63)]- Ignore non-castle provinces when giving extra score to province targets near the war goal area.[/BGCOLOR]

You may remember this suggestion in one of the first chapters of the AAR. Progress!

[BGCOLOR=rgb(51, 53, 63)]- Made it so that orthodox priests should always have a beard[/BGCOLOR]
[BGCOLOR=rgb(51, 53, 63)]- Adjusted eyelids that were sometimes causing characters to have overly “squinty” eyes[/BGCOLOR]

Hmm. Bet that works perfectly. Remember naked popes and nuns?

[BGCOLOR=rgb(51, 53, 63)]- Fix becoming malnourished sending the toast you became obese instead.[/BGCOLOR]

No idea what this means. Toast is dangerous stuff.

[BGCOLOR=rgb(51, 53, 63)]- Fixed all Anglo-Saxon counties forcibly converting to Scots if their ruler owned any counties in Scotland[/BGCOLOR]
[BGCOLOR=rgb(51, 53, 63)]- Fixed being able to choose medical treatment for other character's prisoners[/BGCOLOR]

These two are just funny. Indeed, the first is an excellent aar prompt.

[BGCOLOR=rgb(51, 53, 63)]- Fixed characters living in foreign realms being invited to feasts, and having such a good time they never go back[/BGCOLOR]

Considering we have to pay per person in court, those hangers on being cut is a good thing.

[BGCOLOR=rgb(51, 53, 63)]- Fixed ill characters wearing helmets and coifs with their nighties[/BGCOLOR]

Wonder if children can still be set that as default...Ged's templar daughter comes to mind.

[BGCOLOR=rgb(51, 53, 63)]- The game now tells you that vassals cannot become executioners[/BGCOLOR]

Executioners are now characters!? Stephen Hack will be returning...

[BGCOLOR=rgb(51, 53, 63)]- You can now only rename children that are your close family, no more renaming any child in the world![/BGCOLOR]

No more Willy the Pope. Shame...

Perhaps they meant "text" instead of "toast"?

It is wonderfully appropriate that Paradox's utter contempt for checking or testing things before they are published extends even to Change Logs.

I imagine Paradox bans it employees from owning mirrors, just to stop them ever looking at themselves before going on a night out. "Make the changes blind and then just charge out without checking, that is the Paradox way"

Ooohhh. They just say it multiple times throughout the log so...thought it was deliberately done.

I guess that must have happened, because as I said, toast comes up quite a few times...

Maybe a toast list is in order?

They’re talking about the banner that briefly displays at the top of the screen, in this instance saying ‘you have become obese,’ when it should say ‘you have become malnourished.’

Edited to add: which they’re saying is now fixed. ;)

BTW, if you haven’t read Tiax’s informal AAR, you should!

Still doesn't make much sense, but we are getting there at least.

Tiax is all over this, I see. Will pay my respects shortly.

I often teach about Change Management, and one of the key things when communicating around Change is "What is not changing?" In this case, it appears the answer is "chaotic inconsistency".
