We have used 3d graphics since EU3 and that will not change.

Don't you all remember these beauties?

OMG, I’m a young guy, I’ve never played EU3, but this picture really amazed me. I think it still has a lot of potential. Imagine, during a siege, countless cannons firing at the city walls, or watching a building gradually complete over time when constructing, and merchant ships docking or trains buzzing by.

3D is fine, what bugs me is the weird "sharp geometric planes sculpted from clay, boldly and simply colored" style (I personally associate with Unity) that these days soooo many games have. I don't even know what it is about them; whether anyone really likes it or whether they are just cheap/simple to make. An obvious identifier is the hair being is one solid "clump", which isn't necessary with modern technology.

Most extreme example (of course, this is Dungeons 3, where it makes "stylistic" sense):

Vicky 3 doesn't go that far but honestly it feels like a "related" visual language and that what makes it look cartoonish and kinda cheap to me.

3d is fine but it doesn't always work well with characters. Like ck3 is ok but still sometimes those generated charracters feel childish, Imperator rome actually has solid and probably best 3d characters. And in Vic3 they are just bad.

City view is fine of course, that’s what it’s for. I wouldn’t mind seeing horse carriages on the map transporting goods either, that’s even quite calming sometimes. lol. But just no huge avatars Tropico-style doing stuff, that’s absolutely immersion breaking.

I also know that the multi-level UI has become very popular in the gaming industry, but it’s tedious to navigate through multiple levels this way. A mixture of both ways while generally less of it would be nicer.

I know I'll probably get a lot of respectfully disagrees for this but I think the 3D models for CK3 are done super well and the models in Vic3 get too much hate. Also I like the more minimalist UI of the newer games. If they brought the 3D system of Vic3 to Project Caeser and just made them a bit higher poly count or just more polished in general I would be quite happy.

I never understand why Parody uses 3D... They are all extremely ugly.

If want something like this. (This was planned in Vic 3)

The main selling point (and the main problem) of PDX 3d art is that it is random. You can always generate new 3d "character" when you need one - and 2d art have to be drawn by hand.

As long as the portraits don’t take up half the screen. My biggest problem with the CK3 and Vic3 UI is that they seem to love their own artwork so much they compromise the ability of the UI to concisely convey information in order to make the art more prominent. Compare those two games and how they put up their portraits (Vic3 is by far the more egregious) vs CK2
