Our Intel ships, cloaked down to a Fighter's RADAR signature, are edging in to try and pick Red 2 up on passive Thermal (ESN Inspector Clouseau) or even on AWACS RADAR (ESN James Bond).

The immediate battle area. The stack of 11 civvie Freighters is off-screen to bottom right.

Think he's going for them?

The row of waypoints actually points straight at the planet.

But the civvies are within missile range of that route.

So he can kill them en-passant.

So... should I bring the Combined Fleet back into Harmony now?

... or should I wait to see if he wastes another 70-odd missiles on our civvie Freighters, first?

That would mean that many fewer missiles left to fire at our warships.

Or perhaps he chases the Gunships after killing the Freighters?

We can hope he wastes missiles on our advanced decoys in passing
What were those decoys?

Now.
If he turns around and goes after the fleet it can always start going towards Lernea again.
Letting the fleet wait just risks him slipping away and getting to rearm.

Bringing the fleet in won't help either.

We have fleet elements that move at 6,800 kps. Some that move at 8,800 kps, some at 10,000 kps.

But none of them can catch him, if he doesn't want to engage.

If he heads for the jump point back to the Neutral Zone, only the Gunships can catch him... and they will pay a painfully high price.

Bringing in the fleet doesn't change that equation.

They're too SLOW to force him to battle, except in defense of his home planet. And we can do that any time.

He means the civvies.

He means the civvies.
So if he heads for NZ we'll let him go?

We can deal with that if and when it happens. Don't borrow trouble.

The Emotions can catch him even with a long head start, if we choose to risk them.

If not, we tank the salvos with our PD. We would have had to do that if he had saved his missiles instead of convoy raiding, anyway.

What are the Q?

Watch the very first episode of Star Trek: The next generation and you will know exactly what they are.

As for the tactical situation.. maybe we can lure them in if we flip on all of our active sensors in the combined fleet?

I don't think they will fire on the civvie freighters, they have been ignoring those so far..maybe they want to clear the way for the troop transports?

I do expect him to attack the civvie Freighters, as long as our fleet seems to have "fled the battlefield".

He's "mopping up". Or so I believe.

If you are forced to pursue with the gunships, could you send the General class or some Sabres ahead to test for missiles if you are concerned about exposing the main gunships?

"Ahead" only by slowing down the Gunships. They are pretty well the fastest component of our force.

The ESN Mata Hari (a passive sensor Intel ship) has picked up a 1,000-Thermal target at 88 million km.

That serves as calibration for the HS-7 Thermal sensor. Presumably it's a power law and we will detect a 4,000-Thermal target at 176 million km.

This is probably Red 2 doing a drive-by on our Tender at 186 million km.

sc-2757.jpg

... and that's GOOD. It means less missiles for Red 2, and it also means that he WILL shoot at nearby commercial engined ships as he goes by.

As expected.

Salvo of 7 missiles incoming.

That's what... 592 missiles in total?

585 + 7?
