True. But I only counted about 920 missiles for Red 3. And some of the ships in Red 2 don't have the range to do 200 million mile salvos, and those still count towards those totals.

Checking my own counting against this one ..

Running total: 855

Note that I'm not counting the missiles in the Deux Sèvres yet, those have much shorter range so aren't firing their 14 missiles per salvo shots in either of these engagements. But that's another 70-ish missiles I believe.

585 fired. 855 - 585 = 270 missiles, plus the amount fired by Red 3 remaining in Red 2's long range missile boats. At best 4 salvos.
In reality, Red 1 only fired 5 salvos plus a group of 70 at that distance. We've already seen 2-and-a-bit full salvos. 4 is really unlikely.

Of course, this is not accounting the Deux-Sevres -- those will have their own missile stacks and will need to be run out at closer distances than the main Lot-et-Garonnes.

HEY!!!

You're going the wrong way!

Red 3 is also heading the wrong way... back to the inner star system.

OK, we'll try to get their attention with the Gunships.

If it becomes necessary to just send in the fleet and tank his missile salvos... at least he's wasted hundreds of missile rounds on civvies first.

We're bringing in the Gunship squadron to see if we can kite him back to the jump point.

If that doesn't work, we'll just brute-force him with the Earth fleet.

If brute force isn't working, then you aren't using enough!

Red 2 seems to be heading toward the big stack of civvies near Red 3.

Red 3, meanwhile, appears to be heading away from the civvies.

I read this as "Red 3 has run out of missiles and must stop attacking. Red 2 still has some missiles left, so Red 2 will attack the civvies instead".

Of course, they won't be firing 20 missiles at each, now that they know how vulnerable a Freighter is.

How many missiles can the Duex Sevres throw though? Red 1 didn’t have enough to matter much once the gunships were sent in.

The smaller (7,000-ton) boats all seem to have 7 missile tubes.

We're going to try:

1) Kiting him back toward the jump point. If that fails:
2) Hope that he wastes another 77 missiles on those 11 civvie Freighters. Whether or not he fires on the Freighters:
3) Bring in the Combined Fleet for Operation Armageddon, and just drive forward into the missile storm.

Makes sense. Let's find out how it goes.

The Harmony battle-space:

sc-2747.jpg

From top left to bottom right, and indicated with colored arrows are:

(Yellow) - Our Gunships, just entered the Harmony star system from Lernea in an effort to kite the Red 2 fleet back into the trap.
(Red) - The enemy Red 2 fleet. Our main opponents.
(Light Blue) - A stack of 11 civvie Freighters.
(Red) - The enemy Red 3 squadron. Apparently out of missiles.
(Green) - The planet Harmony. Pops dead and Naval base shattered, but still has lots of STO and ground forces. A whole brigade of tanks, even. And 15 DSTS.
(Red) - Another enemy invasion force with drop ships and escorts. We wiped out two such fleets days ago, capturing two dropships.

I've measured some angles and it looks like Red 2 is headed straight for planet Harmony.

Naturally his huge missiles are a major threat to the STO guarding the place, but it will use up an awful lot of them.

I've been laying down a waypoint each time the Modrons reveal their location by using their AWACS.

They appear to be headed for the planet.

Harumph. I naturally assumed Emu meant ships belonging to the Q, which would have been quite the challenge to take down, to put it euphemistically, even if we’d helped the Modrons. :p
What are the Q?
Some kind of borg?

They actually learn based on what it took?

Won't that risk them escaping, in case they don't shoot at then, as Earth fleet is slower.

Can the STO smash the drop ships?

It tracks the shields and armor thickness of the different classes of ships that it has encountered, yes.

What would you suggest?

Can the STO smash the drop ships?

It will get a shot at them.

Unfortunately, I can't tell it which ship to shoot at or at what range to open fire. Targeting choices are automated for STO. I have little control.

Going after them immediately it's clear they can't be kites.
Or at the very least have the fleet in Harmony moving towards NZ.

What a shame
No way to change it in the future with differnt components?

The ESN James Bond and the ESN Inspector Clouseau are getting rather close to the enemy Red 2 fleet...

sc-2750.jpg

... 269 million km and closing... but we are relying on our stealth gear, which reduces our TCS (our Target Cross Section, which determines RADAR signature) to that of a Fighter. Of course, if he can lock onto Fighter-sized targets at 200 million km then we're in trouble.

Not sure just how close we need to get before ESN Inspector Clouseau can start tracking them on Thermal.
