In general, yes, assuming I understand you correctly. The exception remains Dutch culture. OR, Dutch will be the most intense verion of this. While we have discussed the idea that a "Netherlands" could emerge late in the game, say 1760s and onward, the Dutch culture/the Dutch provinces needs to a focal point for conflict in the first 100 years, until the New World becomes the prize.

Dutch provinces, yes, but Dutch culture isn't nearly the prize that French is, or even Anglosaxon. For all the hype, the northern Netherlands aren't that great, and while the 'Belgian' provinces are pretty sweet, there's only 3 of them.

Still, it's a great crossroads, with the interests of Bavaria, Burgundy and the Hansa all running into each other. I'd suggest the most flexible solution is not to make it so one power 'wins' the culture at the expense of the others, but that we let three cultures into the region: initially just Dutch, but later on Burgundian and Hanseatic. We can use these to reflect the fact that one part of the region may well differ in its loyalties to the other parts, as with the historical Union of Arras. Initially the people of the Low Countries are similar to each other (all Dutch culture), but over time politics, economics and religion divide them (mixture of cultures).

We all know and remeber these by heart. just wanted to put it in visual terms here as when looking in the game the ideas kinda fly away

this map does not have economic power of the regions marked. which would be nice to have

Why do French catholics have french and not occitan as the culture?

Presumably because we have changed the province cultures but done nnothing else with 'France' as yet. So all the events. monarchs and leaders are as for Aberration I.

I am thinking about France, while spending my limited EUII time playtesting and correcting the New World material so that it works properly.

Ok then. then once you do change their culture to "patagonian" then maybe remove a province 425 from their national provinces too as that creates tension between the protector (cordoba) and the protected (huegnots), and what do they need bearn for anyways.

If they do then maybe add that core when cordoba has falling out with them

thank you MattyG

Eh... no? In vanilla they do, in abe they got their own culture.

Is the Guyenne ruled by the Plantagenets by any chance? In that case, should they have cores on England, sice we're going for a later english splitup. I'm also worried about the Plantagenet part of french history in general. When the last french king died during the 4th crusade the Plantagenets still had a awful lot of posessions in France, and would definitely have been involved in the war of the french throne. In rl it was John Lackland who lost most of the family's french posessions, could he have done the same now? Should Guyenne have claims on bothe the french and the english throne (being able to recreate both nations). And how would Guyenne's relations with Berry be? I guess very bad...

The Aberrated history I have drafted has the Plantagenets out of the picture in Guyenne.

Well, they are not the current rulers. But they can't be far from the surface. I can definitely see an interesting story arc wherein Guyenne eventually has a weak king and their is a coup or civil war in which the old Plantagenet family line takes over. They would then have the chance to claim English possessions. The ai options would depend on how strong Brittany is, as they won't want to face off against a large Brittany on the issue.

As for the French throne, no matter who rules Guyenne they will be able to form up France, although I find it extraordinarily unlikely that the ai Berry or Guyenne will manage such a task.

Of course the ai Guyenne and Berri should not be able to recreate Frnce, but a skilled human player could. The Plantagenets coming to power in Guyenne through a coup, sounds interresting, especially if you're playing them.

Actually, I think it might be something also that could be encouraged by a neighbour. Not Brittany, because of the English implications, but certainly Languedoc or Occitania could have a crucial event of the option to fund the Plantagenets or provide troops. Doing so would trigger this civil war. Not doing so might pass the option to Berri or event to Cordoba.

Or even Burgundy if they want Guyenne to focus on England instead of France, but for the Burgundians to care Guyenne need to have become strong ie. ate Berri and auvergne.

OK,

With beta4b updated I had a chance to finally get on with 'France'.

Here is the opening sequence for Burgundy.

imprimatur was certainly a formidable start to widespread acceptance of his new
kingdom, but the Rebellion of the Rhone Lords had illustrated how tenuous was the
loyalty of many French nobles to the idea of a 'Burgundy'. Phillip had been
tutored to reign and his studies under the erudite and progressive Ermands
d'Alsace included key philosophical tracts and a study of history. Phillip was
especially struck by the improtance of the magna carta and the value in
establishing a framework for responsibilities and roles within the kingdom.
Phillip debated the issues at length during his early years as king, bringing in
to his court masters from the Italian universities, specialists in religious and
common law and notable speakers, including Gilles des Rochers and Jean
Ganichaud. From this Phillip developed a new legal system for the Kingdom which
became known as Phillipean Law. 'La Code phillipeenne' was notably the first
European system that granted certain radical (if limited) rights of redress by
commoners against the nobility, and of the nobles against the king."

reforming administrator, Phillip had also become an active contributor to the
theological debates of the day. Phillip believed strongly that the Church needed
to respond to the excesses of its members and made strong moves to have members
of the clergy covered by his civil law, instead of church law. Eschewing debate
