This feels even worse than the no mans sky launch... Why isnt it possible to share details about the asset launcher, or details of the region packs and content packs? We have been waiting for the game to go out of early access for a year by now, and we are not even able to see the w.i.p? Why did you choose this path of radio silience?

So glad I bought a new computer for this game, its going to be 2 years old by the time the game is finally finished. Drink some coffee, chop chop, let's go, finish the asset editor

Because they've copped flack for putting out weekly updates of little substance before, in addition to releasing info closer to release.

Well, now they occasionnaly post updates of little substance :3

All in all, patch will drop when it will drop. I just hope they haven't intentionnaly retained fixes, content or feature to make a big drop on the one year anniversary. Firstly because we've been doing a whole lot of waiting already and second, I don't really feel like this release anniversary is something to celebrate considering how it went.

I don’t think they’re holding anything back. It’s a guess that their goal is to release a big patch next week. And it remains unclear what will be in the patch.

I think they’re working on the top priorities and hoping to release it ASAP. Whenever that is. It could be next week. It could be November 1st.

My guess they wait till Christmas so people can buy this broken game and add-ons to keep the kids happy.
As for the patch, they didn't say much about it in the last announcement. So don't expect too much.

Might be a silly question but one of the bigget complaints is the lack of assets, the city gets boring quick everything looks the same
if the two Creator Packs — Modern Architecture and Urban Promenades are finished and completed - with no completion date insight (unlike to be in 2024) why can't CO just add the creator packs to the base game like they did the with the beach pack??

would make the game a little more fun for a few months while we wait till 2025

Hire more people and get this game rolling before it burns out completely. Get asset editor up! Make everyone happy
They've publicly stated (on LinkedIn) that they have had issues attracting talent (the Ministry of Employment of Finland visited them).

It is more complicated than just "growing" the team. You need people with the right skills, and they need to be brought up to speed on the project. I believe part of the issue with the game is the loss of several senior people (e.g., the lead designer of all their previous games and some senior devs). IMHO, yes staffing is a problem, but it is not an easy fix.

In the European job market, you don't just publish a job ad and qualified applicants are beating down your door. You're lucky if five people apply in a year and one of them is sufficiently qualified.

Especially in the field of IT development you don't HAVE to have people coming to Finland. It would be better, yes, but it is in no way mandatory.
If there is any industry sector where you can work remotely then it is IT.

We know how awful the state of the game is TODAY. From that we can safely deduce how disastrous it must have been one year ago and even worse, when they did announce it.
THEN they should have taken action already.

I really don't think the problem is lacking developers with sufficient skill. Of course we only have the outside view, but to me it seems quite clear that there is a huge problem in the project management of this game, and it starts with CO and ends with Paradox. There is a visible lack of focus and direction, and Paradox don't really seem to know what's going on either. There seems to be constant disagreements between CO and Paradox in how to communicate with the players, and which areas to focus on.

The pace of development is way too slow, even if they would have a significantly smaller team. And if a team cannot use the resources they have, the issue is with management.

Oh, I do.

Their asset thingy still isn't finished - one year past release.
Not only that, it is one of the most vital parts for not only the current PC version but even more so for the console version. It must have had some kind of priority all the time. Yet, no tangible results as far as we can tell.

That very much speaks for a lack of sufficiently skilled manpower on their side.

I agree though about the project management - or maybe better, lack thereof.

Hello City Builders,

We wanted to take a moment to update you on the status of our upcoming releases. We know many of you are excited for new content, and we want to be transparent about where things currently stand.

The two Creator Packs — Modern Architecture and Urban Promenades — have been completed by their creators. While the Economy Patch, Detailers Patch, and Decorations Patch are all part of our commitment to improving the base game, we are well aware that the Asset Editor is one of the most crucial remaining features in fulfilling our promise to make mods fully available in-game. To ensure we don’t split our focus, we’ve made the decision to push the release of the Creator Packs to Q4. This will also affect the upcoming release of Bridges & Ports Expansion that will instead come in Q2 2025. We will continue dedicating our efforts to the base game before shifting focus to paid content. Our goal is to ensure the community is satisfied with the state of the game, and once we’ve achieved that, we’ll be excited to release these amazing packs to you!

/The Cities Team

For those interested, here is an update from Colossal Order and what they are currently dedicating their focus to:

I get that repeating the fact that game development takes time does not make the wait any less frustrating, but I'm afraid that it remains true for this issue and likely many other issues we will tackle in the future. I hope you have something entertaining to spend your time on while we finish up.

The final statement is truly disturbing...

How frustrating it all is, each official communication is a new scandal.

Two years after being committed we will have our content paid for, in my country, this would be defined as a commercial scam.
