Your Trabant was at least a very simple construction that worked and if it didn’t you could fix it yourself. Software is complex. Such a game insanely complex.

I am a software developer myself. So I cannot blame the devs for bugs. It’s normal and takes hard to estimate time for fixing.

I blame PDX and the CO management for allowing a release before fixing and completing content. With complete I don’t even mean the DLCs. It’s the details that are missing. No animations and so on. What they released is nothing but a beta.

Even if it is complex, it doesn't excuse anything. No one forced anyone to create that complex game. Their decision = their responsibility.

Yes, bugs happen and it's not something unusual. Like @ProfessorHornbuckle said:

Education is still weird, residential wealth is atrocious, homeless are still completely broken, tourism doesn't work, weather doesn't work, disasters don't work, there's no animations for people doing anything, even things as simple as fires don't really "work" or look like anything but a placeholder, the radio reports random disasters that aren't happening because they still haven't done something as basic as tied radio alerts and advertisements to the actual state of your city, there's no visuals for things like farms, parking as a mechanic is meaningless and has no actual gameplay impact or value besides generating free cash by charging the absolute max because citziens literally dont care what you do with it, taxes are broken, imports/expots are broken, local usage of resources is broken, I could go on. The ENTIRE GAME is broken.
There were problems in almost every aspect of the game. It's hard to call them "just a bugs".

Then don't insult readers' intelligence by advocating such ludicrous and absurd positions. SimCity 2013 was a joke.

Aside from the stuck unhoused cims bug (easily fixed with a single mod) the game has been playable since post Econ 2.0. I've been enjoying it since launch. And the developers have shown remarkable fidelity to the community and persistence in their commitment to improving the game with their ongoing efforts throughout.

The absence of reasonable thinking and the continued puerility in the toxic critics' gallery is simply appalling.

Such a cool game, and post after post you recommend mods that fix bugs? Excellent :)

Many players are rebelling... I know that CS2 will be great too, and I am trying to enjoy today by thinking about the future. I am sure that this game will reach a perfect level in the next 1 year, but I also ask you to surprise us from time to time so that we can be excited.
The irony in all the complaining is that the game is playable and enjoyable now.

Some people are just adrenaline junkies and get a bigger hit from hijacking their hippocampi with toxic posts.

I identify with why some UE players are frustrated. Speaking as a UE player who has been playing and enjoying the game since launch, however, I'd rather have a high-quality base game before the rest of the promised content has been fulfilled.

I mean, actually, if you read, I have only ever recommended one mod. I've been playing and enjoying the base game since launch. It became really interesting after the Econ 2.0 patch.

The only bug that I see making the BASE game unplayable is the stuck unhoused cims bug. Bye Bye Homelessness fixes that for me. It's literally the only mod I am using.

I suppose maybe I am here to discuss SC2013 because to clarify I do also think it's a good game. It's not the same kind of game as Cities Skylines- it's a deep, structurally-rich city builder with development timelines, milestones, and progression systems that all integrate into each other and are developed naturally, not via a bare-bones "tree" where you pick what comes next...with an arcadey slant and a very limited amount of space to work with. But it functions, and it is fun to play. I really do recommend giving it a chance with the mindset that it is NOT a massive city builder, but going into it knowing what it IS...which is an arcade-adjacent puzzle game where you make multiple little towns work together to bolster each other and their shared regional areas and resources until they can all be massively gentrified and successful while one stays a crappy mining town because hey let's be real you need a mining town to run the processor industry in your main megalopolis!

But yes, as others have stated, the point is that SimCity 2013 despite design issues is a functional playable game with fun gameplay loops. CS2 is largely the same experience every time you play it, with no real tying-together of gameplay systems, most of the systems are barely functional if functional at all, the progression tree is extremely limited and simple and is disjointed with the in-game experience of adding new buildings and add-ons, there's loads of missing basic content (that the game is supposed to have, that is not to say that SC2013 has more "things in it" because it doesn't, this is not a direct comparison of features), and we have no idea when we can reasonably expect it to meet *a similar vibe of completion* as what SC2013 had by this point. (Again, not a 1:1 comparison).

If SimCity was getting your meal brought to you, they forgot all the sides, the main was raw, and they had to take it back and brought it back still without a side and knocked over your drink, but what you got tasted great anyway...then Cities Skylines is getting your meal brought to you, every single part of it is wrong, you sent it back 3 times, you've been in the restaurant for 5 hours at this point, the server only comes out every 40 minutes to check on you, repeatedly assuring you that there's gonna be food soon, and you're snacking on, admittedly, pretty yummy bread the entire time, and then after another 40 minutes the server says sorry, your sides are done but they're not going to bring them out to you until they can run down the street to the store to get the ingredients for your main because bafflingly they still don't have it ready yet, and they don't want to shift focus between the sides and the main.

One of those experiences is better even if it still had issues.

I am not arguing that CS2 isn't necessarily a better game overall (although I don't think games can really be compared like that in the first place), merely that...If you were a diehard SimCity 2013 fan following its development you had a far more functional final product 2 months after launch than diehard Cities Skylines 2 fans have nearly a year later, and can expect to have in another 6 months.

I really do think history will not vindicate CS2- its failure will be directly compared to SimCity 2013. Maybe in the context of it getting better eventually? But the first year of this game's existence is objectively so much worse than SimCity ever had. This launch is bungled so much harder, and for so much longer, than design choices than didn't really pan out and 2 weeks of server issues.

Of course you have the right to do so. If the game has brought you joy since its release, even with a broken economy, then clearly we have different standards and we will not find common ground in the discussion

I have a vanilla city at 170k+ with 1% crime and only 1 criminal. I'm not complaining but it doesn't feel realistic. Since crime is treated as a job by the game, I'm wondering: if a build has very low unemployment, cims can find actual jobs, and unhoused cims now leave the city post haste, then low crime rates would be a logical outcome.
Yeah nah, the crime is broken in the game, just look at the charts from day dot to now and it's a flat line of nothing. Only reason to build a police station is to speed up how quickly accidents are cleared.

There's some major work needed to get Economy 2.0 working right tho its still better than what it was at launch.

Would like to see the game start at a 15 percent tax rate across the board next Economy update because as it stands, you have the choice to go to 30 percent but anything over 13 and there's complaints. Would be more engaging to have the game started at the half way mark on tax so then you have the choice of 15 percent up or 15 down. Sure you can go negative but that still won't entice the Lodging ;)

As for SimCity, there's no comparison, CS1 whipped it and CS2 given enough time will better that

When you persist ad infinitum in insisting something is hopelessly “broken” when clearly it is not then we absolutely have different standards. One of us is living in a fact-based reality. Accepting a set of basic facts is the only starting point for finding common ground in a discussion. You insist the economy is broken. It isn’t. End of discussion.

Hello City Builders,

We wanted to take a moment to update you on the status of our upcoming releases. We know many of you are excited for new content, and we want to be transparent about where things currently stand.

The two Creator Packs — Modern Architecture and Urban Promenades — have been completed by their creators. While the Economy Patch, Detailers Patch, and Decorations Patch are all part of our commitment to improving the base game, we are well aware that the Asset Editor is one of the most crucial remaining features in fulfilling our promise to make mods fully available in-game. To ensure we don’t split our focus, we’ve made the decision to push the release of the Creator Packs to Q4. This will also affect the upcoming release of Bridges & Ports Expansion that will instead come in Q2 2025. We will continue dedicating our efforts to the base game before shifting focus to paid content. Our goal is to ensure the community is satisfied with the state of the game, and once we’ve achieved that, we’ll be excited to release these amazing packs to you!

/The Cities Team

For those interested, here is an update from Colossal Order and what they are currently dedicating their focus to:
If the creator packs are ready...why are you not releasing them? It seems to me you are lying about them being ready. The homelessness is still an issue as well. In fact, I now have no residential demand in any of my cities since the last update. This has made the game unplayable.

Some postings ago you said:

Seems to be a contradiction to me.
Mentioning mods doesn't help that matter, since the game as delivered by CO according to your words is unplayable.

You wrote that you've been enjoying the game since its release, so also before the Economy2.0 patch. If the economy wasn't broken, there would be no patch.

BTW Tell me, if the homeless bug can be easily fixed with one mod, why hasn't CO been able to do it for months?

@co_avanya I noticed that the roadmap on the website isn't yet updated to the new schedule. Are you or someone on the team able to revise it?
I'll check in with the team at Paradox to make sure it didn't slip through the cracks. Thanks for the reminder!

As far as I'm aware the mod regularly scans and removes homeless people from the city. No doubt super helpful while we worked on a fix, but as I understand it the mod didn't address the underlying cause of homeless people getting stuck. And no doubt useful for players who ended up with a very high number of homeless people in the city that would take a long time to clear.

That said, if you still have homeless people getting stuck in your city, please make a report with the save attached and include a list of mods (if any) that have been used in the save.

Yes, I know (or at least I assume) that it's not that easy for any mod to fix it just like that. It could be a powdercoat at best. But the cause still remains unsolved and affects other mechanics.

I still think that introducing rents is one of the worst (if not the worst) decisions that could have been made. It generates more problems than benefits. The distribution of houses can be developed based on the needs of individual groups, without delving into the details (such as rent, earnings, expenses, etc.). Unfortunately, one can get the impression that CS2, compared to CS1, shifted priorities to such side things, and the key systems for the city-builder game are neglected.

Real depressing that we can give tons and tons of direct and explicit feedback and all we get is one message a week that says "Hey guys just FYI if our patch that took two months to come out still isnt working for you, throw up a report so we can try to fix it again in another 2 months".

Seems to be map related as one map I played after the official fix (even with bye bye installed) had a city of 180k and 9000 homeless and this was a fresh city after the update (used Thanos to kick 5000 but 4000 still remained), then yesterday I started another map and have a population of 280k with only 1200 homeless and haven't needed to Thanos with bye bye plus only setup outside connections at around 80k.

I'm sure it will all get sorted out when the next patch that fixes the Lodging and Crime drops hopefully soon?
