Missing countries

Suggestions for anyone working on a joint development effort:

Countries not in Hearts of Iron, appearing 1936-48

1. Republic Sociale Italiana or RSI [hope my spelling is right] -- Mussolini's fascist regime in northern Italy after Italy joins the Allies in Sep 1943.

2. Burma -- Burmese independence movement sponsored by Japanese, led by Aung San. Active from Jan 42, switched to British side Mar 45, achieved independence Jul 47

3. Pakistan & Ceylon -- tied to Indian independence (historically late 47 to Jan-Feb 48). Should also consider making Kashmir independent country, as civil war there started immediately

4. Taiwan -- added to Nationalist China after U.S. occupies Japan, move capital of Nationalist China there if Communist China defeats Nationalist China (historically 1949)

5. North and South Korea -- after defeat of Japan and victory of Communist China (historically 1948). South Korea should depend on American intervention, otherwise all of Korea goes Communist.

6. Vietnam -- Mar 46 (civil war with Viet Minh starts immediately)

7. Indonesia -- declared independence upon Japanese surrender in late 45, fought British and Dutch until independence recognized in 1950.

8. Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon -- Mar, Apr and Dec 46, but could have appeared earlier given early victory over Germany

9. Israel -- historically 1948, might have appeared earlier given early victory.

A recommendation:
Don't talk the talk, instead walk the walk.
An EEP for HoI was discussed before Trip, Bolt and Fed. However in the case of the laters they produced something and people jumped the bandwagon and started to contribute. An inportant thing is getting a website where people can download it and getting it up fast. Even if it is a pre-alpha of the first pre-alpha with just one event added, it will show that you mean business and hence make people more willing to spend their time contributing.

Actually what you talk about is exactly what I want to stay away from. Yes I could throw up my mod (things I have changed with my game currently) but then it would be "my" mod not a cummunity mod. What I envision this mod to be like is a compilation of all mods (those that allow us to use their mods of course) and large amounts of community input. The biggest prblem EEP had was that there was to much fighting over what was put in and what was left out. How I propose getting over this is creating an install program that has user choice selection of what things they wish to install. An example would be Historical events or Un-historical events. The user would check a box on wether to install these events or not. I call this the "moddable mod".

Yes I understand that more people will jump on the bandwagon when the first alpha comes out but that is universal to all mods.
What I wanted to find out is if there was any interest in this at all. It seems that there is sufficient interst to at least start something and as it goes more will join.

Captain Krunch - NO this is not affiliated with EEP at all. I never was involved with that mod.

Trip - I tried to PM you to formally ask if you would be interested in helping out and also wether you will allow us to use your mods but your mailbox was full. Thanks for allowing us to use your mod and of course you will be credited for all usage. PM me to let me know if your are interested in helping out.

Pirateiam, I like the idea of an event loader program and as mentioned before I'll be happy to support this effort. I've got about 25 custom events (focused on Japan and China with some USSR, , USA, Mongolia and Manchuria side events) so far and you are welcome to include them in your dist. I probably also qualify as a "history buff" :D

The main problem I see is where situations calls for new AI files, I think it's important that we co-ordinate on AI files as early as possible to avoid problems with different event authors duplicating AI scripting effort and also causing excessive AI file switching. This might be as simple as a managed thread showing "Projects in progress" with an owner listed against each project so that we know what's going on.

A secondary issue is how to get sufficient testing done, perhaps a call for willing beta-testers of new events and AI files should be made :)

I think this project should have a unique name of it's own. I don't have any suggestions, but I think that would be the right thing to do.

The eep for eu2 started as an "event exchange project", but has become a bug ridden mega-mod with redistribution policies upo the ying-yang and headed by a corrupt leader. It is such that the word "exchange" in the eep no longer applies.

So please for this project let us not have:

1.) A dictator style leader who decides what and what does not go in, regardless of popular will.

2.) A redistribution policy which prevents the free usage and sharing of events and ideas.

And finally, it should be decided whether you want to make a mega-mod that will siphen support away from smaller mods (as what happened in the eu2 scenario forum), or just a project for the free exchanging of events/ideas that can be used in the smaller mods. I personally favor the latter.

Captain,

I agree totally with what you have said about the EEP for EU2 and that is why I did not get involveded with it. I only used the EEP as an example of a community mod ( a bad example I must say). Since you bring up this point yes it should have a unique name. Any ideas? Here are a few I have thought of and please everyone give ideas out then i will ask for a vote.

names:
Universal HOI
HOI Community MOD
EHOI - (Enhanced Hearts of Iron)

ok people give me some ideas then we will vote on it.

As for being a dictator... lmao I do not have enough time to be one so if anyone wants to volunteer.....just kidding ;)

And besides did you not know that Pirates were one of the first true democratic institutions. (this is true mind you)

As for the redistribution... since I see this as a compilation of many peoples works it definately should be free and open distribution as long as those that wrote it are properly credited for their work.

Sorry I did not answer your last question. As for the mega-mod/free exchange. Can we have both? I envision this as a large mod but I also envision this as a free exchange of events/ideas. Let me know what your thoughts are.

Both is fine. :)

Scenario editing should really only be about making a better game for all, and that's why I would like there to be a free exchange of ideas that others could include in their mods, which will mean more scenario editing, which results in the end of a better game for all. So, there should not be any policy which restricts others to use events in what is meant to be a community project. The only limitation I think should be in effect, is that you must give credit to the creator or the event/idea.

As for a name, how about an acronym that forms another word? Like this:

C.H.I.P. - Community HOI Ideas & events Project

or

E.P.I.C. - Exchange Platform for Ideas/events by the Community

I like that last one. Epic is a great name for a project, and is also an acronym. :)

EPIC HoI is good I think.

my vote is for EPIC HOI :)

As does my vote. :)
Do we need a poll now, or just go with this?

If not, our next step is to lobby for the creation of a project forum. It would be best to get the forum here, if we can... but if for some reason we can't get one, Languish will be happy to provide one, as he has done for several EU projects (and the one in my sig). Someone (I nominate you) should ask an administrator for a forum. :)
