I agree, but I think "Society" tech will be more related to "social" stuff (improvements in sociology and better economic theories, for example) rather than civic technology.

Your scientists have completed their research in Surveillance State! My Lord, our brightest intellectuals have invented the Social Justice Warriors!
Effects: +10 happiness due to oppression; -20 racial conflict; decreases POP consciousness by 10% but increases militancy by 90%
Wrong. There are 7 playable races at start, but there are a lot more that are randomly generated. Also, a big difference is that this a real-time game. The problem isn't the numbers of potential civ combinations, it's number of civs on the game map at any one time. 6 major civs plus 1 player custom civ isn't quite the same as hundreds of playable countries and factions in the other games each with an individual situation and challenge.
I hope these minor races will also make their own factions and make colonization/expansion not as effortless due to their presence.Wrong. There are 7 playable races at start, but there are a lot more that are randomly generated. Also, a big difference is that this a real-time game.

Does it mean that the playable species (7) exist only as a single entity throughout galaxy (they can't have different government type/attributes)?Most likely. Look at the political screen. There are four large factions. And I don't think they are all part of the 7 races. Especially since we have two Tezhnid factions.

I'd like to see factions - even major ones - of the same race emerging from a civil war as a separate nations. Even if the above limitation is true.
By the way, I wonder if there will be a difference in fighting minor races (that's my term for "not playable) and major races...
This really gets very intersting.
Or maybe you train the world’s greatest scientist-adventurers, create the most advanced ships in the universe, and set up silent listening posts on the moons orbiting planets that are home to pre-spacefaring species. You can learn from them, guide them and eventually become their patrons. You are a Banksian Culture.
I did, but either I missed something or the answer to my question is not there. You should really read this article: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015/08/06/stellaris-paradox-strategy-game/

Here is another interesting hint about playable races. So I think we can get multiples of playable species who will belong to different phenotypes. I might also be possible that each phenotype can come with different racial traits and ethics, resulting in different forms of government. Furthermore it might imply that your populace can vary not only in terms of having different species, but also different combinations of the same phenotype. Very interesting...
I hope it isn't real time. It might not be turn based but that isn't the same. If it was realtime, the game might take centuries to finish and I don't quite have that much patienceWrong. That could still be that on this map, the randomizer generated 2 instances of the same race, and when it does it generates different names. Looking forward to the dev diaries so we can learn moreMost likely. Look at the political screen. There are four large factions. And I don't think they are all part of the 7 races. You are saying you play crusader kings in real time? that is hardcore I play it sped up where a second is a day. sometimes even faster than that. It's real time, but you can pause and speed up, like in any other PDS GSG.
Depends. If a lot is happening, then yes I play it in real time. If nothing is happening I speed it up a bit.You are saying you play crusader kings in real time? that is hardcore I play it sped up where a second is a day. sometimes even faster than that.
My point is that you're really not your game skips 1 day every second. if it were realtime, that 1 day would take an entire day. The joke I thought I was making was that by claiming to play real-time you are actually taking centuries , which is currently impossible given the state of the current medical technology.Depends. well, good luck to them. I watch from the sidelines for a bit, while the fanboys and doomsayers have it out. Like every other release/dlc
I thought we were both talking about real time as it's applied in games - especially when turns has been mentioned - and took "the game might take centuries to finish and I don't quite have that much patience" as a figurative way of saying "It will take forever to finish the game without speeding up time. I will die of boredom".My point is that you're really not your game skips 1 day every second. if it were realtime, that 1 day would take an entire day. ....But I think I left my drumroll machine in the pockets of my other coat... so I guess it wasn't obvious
The game is like all the other PDS games, in real time, either day after day, or hour after hour. The difference with turns is that here the time is realistical and you can choose your speed. The game also ticks differently and you can, as the player, act differently.[What makes me curious now is why according to @loup99 real time makes a difference in a game where you can pause... It ain't that much different than turns, where you can take as much time before doing everything you want.
