I do get a spacey vibe from the pic.

I'm getting a spacey vibe from that it's named Stellaris (according to the trademark) the rest is pretty much icing on the cake. But I agree with you, the cracked collumn could have indicated ancient times if it would have been white or something (or painted in bright colours like in reality) that grey however does not look very antiquity to me. Aside from that sub-saharan African males can't have been very widespread throughout the mediteranee in Roman times and I'll be damned if he's Paradoxes view of how an Egyptian or Phoenician looked back then.

I wouldn't give much about the trademark thing... I just remember the Runemaster hints... The people were confused about the registered websides and made wrong conclusions. The people see that Paradox had a webside called http://www.ancientspacegame.com/ and thought that Runemaster (Project Nero) would be a ancient space game ;) At the end it was a fantasy rpg.

A space game.

Although, following on from the domain discussion, stellarisgame.com was registered on 25th June, registrant hidden via Domains By Proxy LLC.

Reminds me a bit of a Jagged Alliance 2 Character

I'm a little worried by this face.

The features seem to mould in too well together, which seems to imply no genetic system, ergo no dynasty, which sort of ruins any space game.

I would love Rome. I would like a space game with CK2-style mechanics. I would very much hate it if it was a space game which did not have CK2-style mechanics. So upon examining this image closer, iI am preparing for a massive disappointment on Thursday evening; just another space game rather than something truly special.

I hope my fears are misplaced, and the artists are just very good at designing face templates and parts.

Nothing in that picture makes me think of the future. Looks rather current to me, that haircut.

Anyone thought that instead of the past or the future, this game takes place in the modern era? When if, not now, do leaders play a more important role in our lives?

You will need the African portraits DLC, no matter what the game.

Cold War game? Modern day game? Boxing game? Johan's Witness? Dolphin Invasion game? Space Romans?

Space Romans invading Kepler 452B ?

I did some image manipulation and realized that the horizontal lines seen accross the left-side of the image are actually ingrained across the entire image itself, meaning only that the special effect being created here is a projection from an lcd panel. Bad news for Rome 2 believers, this game is Sci-Fi.

For real?

Damn...I think it could be a cold war game at least. TVs of those days had lines.

They already confirmed it's not cold war. And now Stellaris was leaked...

I'm not particularly happy about that, because I like my Paradox games historical. Well, at least they are going to publish HoI IV sooner or later, so at least I will also have something new to play. And hopefully we will also get more expansions to CK2 and EUIV which can keep me occupied while I wait Rome 2 and Vicky 3.

The wall behind him is cut at a perfect 90 degree angle, which implies that the outside bit we can see is behind a window, made of glass. Also, he has a line in his hair, and some kind of shape-up. Unfortunately, these are not promising signs that this project will be a history-themed game :(
