Eu4 is 10 years old,
Yep, While i realised this is for EU4, i'm more here for future title (EU5.) I still like the Deeper blue on modern maps like HOI's Blue Portugal as it reminds of the Uniform.
I can just see a Blue & Red blob Alliance as Hilarious. And White Monarchical France would be the Creme Brule on top.

Just posting these two pictures as examples, incase no one clicked the link on one of my previous posts.

All of these uniforms were active only during the last few decades of EU4. I still cannot understand how someone can even remotely defend Blue Portugal... Unless he is from Porto. Shameful to even speak of things you are not even aware of.

Most soldiers pre-1500 apart from the defensive equipment they used (some sort of metal armour), had a lot of red on them. You can easily see this in the countless campaigns of Afonso V. There is not a single bit of blue seen. Unless you consider the metal or dark parts of metal blue.

From 1600-1750 all uniforms had red and sometimes bits of green present. In many cases, a lot of white as well. War was a hard thing to predict most of the time, and since economy was not in their best in many cases, and the army reduced to a fraction of what it should had been, there was a general rush to make new uniforms all of a sudden when war erupted. This is why you see uniforms of all kind of colours during the fantastic war of 1762.

I only noticed that this thread even existed because one of the devs said they were "taking it into consideration", but really, I advise the devs to do the research themselves instead of basing themselves merely on comments from forum users.

Blue and White is associated with the Monarchy, Red and Green Republic.

Green should be reserved for revolution/ republic imo.

Sorry mate, but blue and white was only associated with the Monarchy in 1830 or, at the very best, during the last few decades of the game's timeframe. Or with Porto, if we want.

The blue present on the uniforms WAS ALWAYS added by German drillers/army reformers that Portugal contracted. And try to guess why they chose blue? Because that was the norm in Prussia for instance. It has nothing to do with the Monarchy. And pre-1760 it was usually reserved to elite units. The grenadiers that Count Schomberg (German) created for example, wore red+blue.

Green/Red or Green-White was always present on army banners pre-1760 AFAIK. Blue-Red only became usual later on. You cannot change an entire country in a game that lasts 400 years based on a few decades (that in this case are even the last few decades of the game), you know.

You know, they added Green since EU1 for a good reason.

Dude, relax, the train is long gone.

We can argue on the topic till the Kingdom Come to no avail. In an era where permanent army uniforms only started to emerge, everyone can nit-pick what he likes more.

At the very least, seeing Kingdom of Portugal as a direct descendant and legal (and most importantly, spiritual) successor to the County of Poto, blue colour seems like the best choice.

Even the Football Team Originally had Red and Blue from 1928 - 1957, they wore Blue shorts like Brazil does with a Burgandy Red Shirt.

Before

Consistent is Blue, Gold, Red.

Complimentary is White and Black and Recently Green.

Yes, all you people can argue is pratically stuff like this, modern stuff that has nothing to do with 1444-1760 Portugal.

Either that or the extremely old flag used by Afonso Henriques in 1143, lol. Get real people.

Afonso V starts the game, and he for instance never wore any blue in battle. You can see all the pictures available of the Portuguese army on the countless sieges/battles in North Africa, and you won't see any blue on it. In fact, apart from elite troops, I doubt you will actually see many pictures pre-1700 with anyone wearing blue.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

As stated above, all your arguments are invalid as this is a flag used in 1143 (or somewhere close to that) and that had not been used in ages by 1444.
