Well, it's also true that too many cooks spoil the stylistic broth, so I don't propose to. I don't envision myself writing events of my own; I just offered to help proofread and correct any obvious errors to help speed things along and take a mundane part of the load off. If someone else is rewriting the event text, or suggesting a rewrite/reformat, it's not ready for proofreading yet.

Ok, good point... maybe it would be better if you guys just proofread and post the issues you find here... I'll make the actual changes to the files... ;)

I will say this - I was playing vanilla HoI as Germany and the event for the Rhineland Re-occupation came up. It had no alternative, and I don't like that.

But anyhow... Sorry if the CORE event is dramatically different - I haven't played Germany yet. I was just using this as an example.

Somebody more familiar with this may correct me, but I think in the C.O.R.E. events, Re-occupation of the Rhineland is triggered by physically moving German troops into those areas... so I think that is a good example of giving the player more choice in C.O.R.E. than in vanilla HoI...

Agree. Which is why I suggested any of JJ's suggestions go before the Grand High CORE Marshalls or whatever ya wanna call 'em - or whoever they are - because I don't want to do work a second time.

I don't think that basic wording style suggestions need to be reviewed by a higher authority. Actual event conduct does, of course, but that's a matter for others and doesn't need to hold up straightening up the text unless it's going to affect it somehow.

When y'all think the text is properly standardized, I'm available to help hunt for lacking apostrophes and whatnot.

name = "The Altmark Incident"
desc = "A few months after the outbreak of war between Germany and the Allies, the German transport ship Altmark entered Norwegian waters carrying approximately one-hundred British prisoners on board. In a small fjord off the Norwegian coast, the Altmark was intercepted by a Royal Navy task force. British forces boarded the German ship and set the prisoners free. The nearby Norwegian navy was overmatched and powerless to intervene."

action_a = { name = "Protest against British violation of our neutrality"
action_b = { name = "Seek British protection from German retaliation"
action_c = { name = "Seek German protection from British aggression"

- dropped a few commas in final two sentences

Another thing -

When posting the event for the first time, also include the entire event because that way we can see what country is experiencing the event. That affects our word choice.

Corrected and saved. Thanks Phil.

TCT, I think this is how we should do it. Scan through whichever file on your own time, look for spelling mistakes, missed commas, and the like... and post them here for me. I'll review the thread and make the changes. If you are kind enough to make the corrections obvious with italics (as Phil K did above), it would be perfect for me to pick them out.

Thanks guys!

Got it...

Wait a sec. I don't want to start on one someone else is doing.

We need to have a central post (perhaps edit the first post of this thread) where we have the status of the files as they are being worked on and when completed. Here's an example:

Altmark - finished
Nomohan - finished
core_test - JKK
core_tech - Phil
Germany - Jesse

Something along those lines. Since it's your thread, Jesse, you can do the editting of your first post. This is just my suggestion but gives us a reference point for the project.

Also, when we jump in and start a file, we should make an initial mention of it here in the flow of the thread for reference.

All that being said, I am jumping in on Steel's 'Nomohan' file right now, OK?

I *really* support the idea of having a structure for file editing, ie to know if a file is:

- Pending (nobody looked at typos etc)
- Open (somebody is looking at it)
- Closed (it's fixed and sent to me)
- Integrated (it's in the official release)

If this status is tracked along with the major version number (ie v0.5 now, soon v0.6) then it will avoid some file version issues.

Great idea, Phil...

Pick a file you want to work on and post it here. I'll keep a current list on the first post of this thread. Then, post your proposed changes for each event in italics here in a new post. I'll update the changes regularly.

How about a new thread for it, then? There should be no further posts in the new thread other than the initial information (which we update). Just make a mention of that at the beginning of the thread. Also, perhaps it can have a sticky. Not a necessity, though. I am not too pro-sticky.

According to what you are asking for, it would be wise to type out the entire list at once and just put in the status of each, going back and altering as any status changes.

Man, I love to organize.

I'm already doing it... Steel, I'll use your suggested specs, and update the version info...

Here's my first suggestion. And I've changed my suggestion style for simplicity and clarity. I'll make any of my comments in BOLD type.

event = {
id = 492000
country = JAP

name = "The Nomonhan Incident"
desc = "In 1939, Japanese forces in Manchuria came under attack by Mongolian troops. The Japanese government suspected Soviet instigation behind the Mongol attack and swiftly decided to protect their national interests. Although not directly implicated in the Mongolian attack, Soviet influence and security in the East were threatened by the Japanese attack on the Mongolians."

action_a = {
name = "Limited intervention; a few divisions will suffice" # Send a corps and some air units
command = { type = trigger which = 222002 } # Historical USSR choice
}
action_b = {
name = "No intervention; Imperial Japan cannot risk war with the USSR" # Let the Manchurians fight for Manchuria
command = { type = trigger which = 492001 } # Japanese dissent
}
action_c = {
name = "Full-scale intervention; crush the Mongolians" # Send the army for a full scale effort
command = { type = trigger which = 222003 } # USSR choice back down or war
}
}

This event description also goes for a few follow-up events:

SOV: 222002.
SOV: 222003
JAP: 492002

Steel, I am also going to include a list of files containing new events pending your review for inclusion in the next version of C.O.R.E. Please take a look...

Finally got info on what armor made the diff at Nomohan

id=222002
country=SOV

action_a = {
name = "Send General Zhukov with a new T-26 tank brigade to crush the Japanese"

action_b = {
name = "Abandon Mongolia; the Soviet Union cannot afford war in the East"

OK, I am not going to keep making posts like this one. My preference would be to substitute nation names in place of the pronoun 'we', but that's my preference. I just think it sounds more official. A lot more official, actually.

id = 492003
country = JAP

desc = "The Japanese army was victorious against the Mongolian forces and remained confident in it's ability to successfully wage war with the USSR."

action_a = {
name = "Japan celebrates the success of the Imperial Army over the Soviet Union"

id = 492004

action_a = {
name = "Japan must show the world it's great strength"

A related event for Manchuria:

id = 952001
country = MAN

action_a = {
name = "The world must see the strength of Manchuria"

A final related event for Mongolia:
id = 952002
country = MON

name = "Mongolia leaves the Comintern and stands alone"

desc= "War with Japan and Manchuria brought chaos to Mongolia as it's government collapsed. Without the support of Soviet troops and weapons, Mongolia was faced with a very difficult war to conduct on it's own."

action_a = {
name = "Mongolia must now make the world recognize it's might"
