The question of Beaga is interesting. We had the same issue in one of our games. No way to unlock the super ship techs with the UK after mobilisation. Strangely enough, we fired the mobilisation event again and then it worked.

As Japan,

I ruthlessly crushed the coup and exectued all the leaders (Option 3 - which results in the loss of a few leaders and 10 mp, not the Option 1), so I was surprised to be told later I needed to make a decision whether or not to let their leaders live!

"We shall fight on the beaches" event shouldn't fire if Churchill is not PM. There is a 10% chance for Halifax to form a government.

So I thought ...

The problem is, this event fires for the human player, whatever nation he is playing, as a flavour event. So the event checks whether Churchill is PM of the player nation, which he usually is NOT, and it never fires.

Yeah weird, it´s temperamental. Working now.

Compared to HOI 3, carriers aren´t such top dogs or I´m being very unlucky? 2 engagements and in both they started in range of surface ships (and weather was clear, at day...)

On my german game, the czechs offered the alliance in exhange for Sudetenland option. Am I lucky or what? Received 5 very useful blueprints as well

These are German flavour events.

Tegetthoff some other questions.

1- Is it WAD that it´s 1940 and I can´t research any small arms/ automotive etc techs as Germany? Does that have anything to do with their focus on Quality?

2- Having some trouble unlocking escort fighters (particularly painful since escort fighters are necessary for CAGs eventually). There are 3 sets of prerequisites for getting the tech - do I have to get all items in the set, or just one? Tricky part is that since I went for independant air formation, I´ve lost one of the items (Short Response) and since I´ve got Diverse Focus, I won´t be able to research Dedicated Bomber Protection either... I may need to edit my save game =/

I am no tech tree guru, but:
The 1940 techs locked out for Germany are locked out for anybody who goes the military recovery tree. Their effects are actually included in military recovery.
Escort fighter ...
I usually unlock it via the Spanish Civil war events. But I also usually go down the army directed tree.

Yeah that´s the problem, if you go independent air formation, then only the bomber route will give escorts. But my issue isn´t with getting escorts themselves, but the fact they are needed for CAGs, and that´s where trouble begins. So escort fighters as prerequisite for CAGs should be removed.

You don't have to have escorts to research CAGs, but you need at least one of light fighters (interceptors), fighters or escorts, as well as a few other techs (Light bomber and aviation industry).

See here:

# 1939 Converted CAG
(snip)
required = { 4020 4510 } # 1937 Aviation Industry AND 1938 Light Bomber Development
or_required = { 4620 4700 4800 } # 1939 Light Fighter OR 1938 Fighter OR 1939 Escort Fighter
# Activated by: 25 000t Conversion Carrier (3300) OR 15 000t Fleet Carrier (3320) OR 10 000t Conversion Light Carrier (3460) OR 14 000t Light Carrier (3480)

Oh that´s good. Was getting a little worried, thanks (I play pretty slowly and I´m still in 1939-40 in my games heh).

Finshed a test as Japan up to the conquest of China (August 1939) with a realistic naval committment/builds and it was really fun.
I note that Japan cannot get 1937 Heavy Industry so can't develop the Energy/Oil or Energy/Rares conversion techs. It is is still possible to build the initial 1933/35 conversion techs but this doesn't lead anywhere. So it makes sense either to disable the entire Conversion tech tree for nations w/o access to 1937 HI.
Alternatively, (and my preference) would be to let Japan have access to 1937 HI if Human controlled (could be un-disabled for humans via the Removing AI tweaks script). Then I could play with building some small synthetic fuel/rares plant.

Hello,

First of all, just wanted to say I love this mod and have been following it since Doomsday.

I have been doing some pretty in-depth analysis of the Tech Tree lately, and I was wondering if it is WAD that there are a number of post-war techs that simply can never be researched at the moment. Specifically, the Surface-to-Air and Air-to-Naval Missile techs in the Secret Weapons tab and all of the Jet Age Doctrine techs in the Air Doctrines tab are deactivated at start by the Configuration tech, but no tech or event ever reactivates them.

For example, the tech "Rudimentary Air-to-Ship Missile" (#7110) has a comment that states it is activated by "Rudimentary Sea Patrol Procedures" (9850). However, tech 9850 contains no command to activate tech 7110, nor any other tech, and no other tech or event that I have found contains a command to activate that tech either.

The most problematic of these is tech 7480, Rudimentary Turbojet Engine, because while commands exist to unlock all of the subsequent jet engines and aircraft, they cannot be accessed without this tech, which never unlocks.

Anyway, thank you all for your hard work, and I look forward to the final version of 0.60.

I cannot get Escort Fighters as Japan - I have 1937 Aircraft Ind, 1938 Ftr, 1939 Lt Ftr, 1939 (and 1937) Electronics and it is mid'42...
Looking at the Tech file, it should have fired...
(BTW: although the comment line under requirements says 1937 Lt Ftr OR 1938 Ftr, the format for the requirements is the same as that in the preceding line, which has the comment 1937 Aircraft Industry AND Fighter Escort Doctrine, so it looks like both requirements are functioning as (I presume) AND requirements). I hope this makes sense!

The air doctrines besides Escort Doctrine are critical factors too. Do you have the correct ones?

Interesting facts in my latest game as GER:
JAP didn't manage CHI at all (but got a little help from their german friends) - but they are quite good in the pacific. started their conquest almost a year after their DOW but made quite some progress.
Now in June 1945 they fight for control of Australia and attacked New Zealand.
Without help they are doomed against CHI but they hold out till 1944 so that seems ok to me
All of the Haweiian islands but Oahu are in JAP hands but they lost interest then and removed all troops. USA on the other hand doesn't bother to reconquer the islands...that seems very odd

the AI is very good in naval war - didn't loose everything early and you can be quite happy if you get a couple of biggies down

Barbarossa was a desaster for SOV - they lost everything in 6 month!!!
Maybe it never came up when testing AI vs. AI because German ususally doesn't come that far, but for a GER player it is quite easy to shatter SOV forces.
I would guess the improved Infra helps the GER more than the SOV because they can advance quicker and are in better supply.
I therefore suggest to reduce infra building of SOV west of Stalingrad!
Bitter peace didn't fire at all, total annexation was possible in Summer 1942.

Nationalist Spain couldn't be invited into the Axis even when all of the british islands are occupied and SOV is down. I guess an event could reduce their unwillingness to enter the war if things look very bright for GER.
Britain has just 1 VP left in Trinidad (which is out of my reach) but don't give a damn. No surrender event? Or is it just impossible if USA i in the war?

It´s simple, AI should scorch earth, yet it doesn´t. It isn´t an issue only with CORE.

There is something weird with techs indeed, because often you have the prerequisites yet the tech isn´t unlocked.
