These DD's are so long I'd like an abbreviated version at this point. It feels like too much detail and text to fully grasp what it is about. I understand some ppl want loads of detail, but they lose more casual people like me with these DD's.
We do have more succinct "feature breakdown" videos on the schedule. They're essentially what you're asking for here.

@PDX-Trinexx

Since you're here, I have a question about the teaser, which I'm not sure will be answered by the DD: currently, as in WIP-currently, how big is the army you get from the conqueror decision, and more importantly, is it inheritable on succession?

Because I like to collect things in my games, and this seems like something I'd potentially want to collect.

700 Retinue Men-at-arms, not inheritable.

i might have to ask again in the diary proper, but what i want to know is if the trait inherits down like i think it was said would happen for ai great conquerors. i sort of understand the logic for not having a trait completely inaccessible to players, but players also absolutely do not need another leg up like that, even as a reward for accomplishing an extremely difficult set of conditions

id figure it doesnt bc good lord man but it doesnt hurt to check

We have a game rule for that. Options are: no inheritance, only primary heir, all independent heirs

But what about to their followers? The conqueror is obviously legitimate to their followers, its why they are following them in the first place, so why shouldn't the conqueror get a legitimacy boost for conquering territory?

Plenty of conquered people's have accepted their conquerors as legitimate, even if only in a pragmatic sense. Most places that are conquered don't immediately go into revolt, that usually takes a couple of generations so conquerors getting buffs to improve stability post conquest is also perfectly fine. For example, there were no major Christian uprisings in the Sultanate of Rum or Muslim uprisings in the Crusader States. External pressures or internal dynastic struggles are what usually weaken and eventually lead to the collapse of Medieval states. Internal revolts are a symptom on central weakness, not a cause.
There is a follower trait for followers to have higher opinion with their lord.

So no, it make no sense to have legitimacy

@PDX-Trinexx I know I said I'd ask on Sunday morning, but given the circumstances, I'll be extra early. (I'll ask on Sunday too, don't worry)

What do you see here, when you look at the last bit of the newest DD?
what_is_missing.png

I'll give you a hint: it's not about what is there, but more about the one thing that isn't there. That's right, there is no "next week we'll talk about" part.

What does that mean for next week's DD then? I also checked if there is any public holiday in Sweden next week, and from what I can see, there is none.

The Council needs a bit of reassurance here, so that we can manage our expectations adequately.

What left is there to cover, do you think? Obviously one week will be for the Byzantine flavor, another perhaps for the intrigue rework (if that's big enough to warrant one), it was also mentioned that the list of playable adventurers at the start would be covered in a DD so maybe a separate week for that, and then one for patchnotes. That's only 4 DDs at most (and I doubt that each of these get their own DD), meanwhile there are 5 Tuesdays left until the DLC releases (which, coincidentally, is also on a Tuesday). Unless there's something I'm missing, here, then they might indeed have to take a gap week at some point between now and the 24th.

I can think of a few topics to cover:

Imperial Succession per acclamation, Co-Emperors, succession in administrative realms in general, some new major and minor decisions for the Byzantine flavor, including new events and activities (the advertised Hippodrome)

Then they still haven't talked about the new court room, new artifacts (which are clearly visible on the Steam product page), new culture/tradition changes, especially new traditions, new/reworked tenets/doctrines for Orthodox.

And the aesthetics side of the DLC also wasn't covered much, like new UI elements, clothing, historical references for all those things, hair styles and beards, the music of RtP (which was already teased here and there)

The last DD before release usually belongs to the patch notes.

All in all, without the last patch notes DD on the 17th of September, we have still four possible DDs left to talk about all those things. I'd say there's plenty.

Most of the other PDX games have an Achievements DD the week before release.

I hope there will be DDs on both modding and AI. The former, because the introduction of Domiciles is going to be a very big deal for modders; I suspect there will be a lot of technical detail to understand how existing systems have been adapted/extended to cover landless play. The latter, because AI is really important for a good single-player experience. Giving it a DD helps to keep it in the spotlight, which it deserves. I want programmers working on AI to feel like they're rockstars, not the game's dirty secret, because that will encourage the team to devote time and money to it.

Since nobody ever looks at sticky topics (right now, as of writing, the thread has 1 view, and it's from me, and that is 30 min after Trinexx posted it), I want to grab your attention here and point you towards the new "Feature Breakdown" video released half an hour ago:

Sticky Thread, the topic is "Administrative Government", and also a direct video link:

A few thing I noticed in the video that haven’t been mentioned in dev diaries yet. Basil I is now comely, his brother is now dead, and Michael III is still axed from the game. A new scheme to damage the emperor’s legitimacy. Chariot racing betting, with a court position charioteer. The emperor can appoint an official to keep track of the bets. I see some new options for recruiting scheme members, one of which is doubling the bribe.
