When the game updates on steam do I lose my save then?

We didn't hear much on compatibility, but if you want to be save, just set your game in Steam to "Only update when i launch it", so that you will see when there is an update and go to the Betas
tab to keep your current game version or roll back to it(forgot if the downlaod and update had already happened by then):

But... Has anybody questioned why a dlc that is not even going to touch the papal succession is called "conclave"? When I heard the name I thought that you had finally done a dlc focusing on the papacy, or that you had at least modified the conclave's process giving the chance to the players to choose the candidate for pope that his own cardinals are going to vote for. Instead apparently nothing of all this will happen. The dlc may even be gorgeous, but why such a misleading title? It's like if you had called the dlc Charlemagne "Elizabeth II" instead.

Conclave:

  1. 1 : a private meeting or secret assembly; especially : a meeting of Roman Catholic cardinals secluded continuously while choosing a pope

  2. 2 : a gathering of a group or association

So yes, while it can mean the Papal election conclave, it's also a generic term to describe any council style things. Besides, no one would buy a DLC that only, or even mainly, focused on Papal elections. But anyways, hardly "misleading".

Yeah, lots of people would buy that. Remember SoA? that was its big thing.

Well, thanks for your lecture. We all know that when some people are gathered in a kind of secret assembly that meeting is referred to sometimes like "conclave". This happens because of the conclave, the meeting where the pope is elected. And this is a videogame about the Middle Ages, isn't it? So if you mention a conclave the first thing you think is the papal election. It would be the same with "coronation". We all may say that the winner of a game is "crowned" winner, but this is not its original meaning, and if I refer this word to a videogame set in the Middle Ages I won't think of the Olympic Games, but of a real crowning of a monarch.

As far as the issue whether people would buy or not a theocracy dlc, the fact that you would not does not mean that nobody else would. For instance, I'd hardly play a game as a pagan tribe, and still loads of people are enjoying it.

Doesn't make me think about the pope at all, but I'm also not Catholic. Might mean more to someone who is though, but it doesn't refer strictly to only papal elections.

You have your associations, other people have their own. At least I didn't immediately associate "Conclave" with the Pope.

I for one think of SoA more as general events and mechanics pack for Abrahamic religions. Sure, the Papal election mechanic was a part of it but so were the Jews and loads of new events. But true enough, since SoA already did the whole Papal conclave thing, why would Paradox make a new DLC about it?

conclave con - with, clavis - key.

from latin, over french to english, meaning "private room" - *very* close to meaning of "privy council"

And how would a Papal conclave DLC work for people without SoA?

Announcing a DLC called "Conclave", and no religious features?
This, as a church-boo i was ashamed when they didnt announce a religious over haul.
It would be nice to be able to play as a christian state

I'm hoping to see a new succession law where the Council votes on the new king. My problem with Elective is at a certain size its unbearable to manage. Even if you don't have a lot of direct vassals, every one at duke tier and up still gets a vote.

They could do like they have done for some EU4 features (I'm unsure on whether I think it is good or not) and open up the Cardinal functionality for those who have the new expansion without SoA.

Isn't elective supposed to be unbearable?

i don't think the problem is how AI votes, the problem is that you can't influence AI. hopefuly, they'll include that under favour mechanics.

another issue that comes to mind is that, e.g. you have 7 dukes voting, they each vote for them selves, and you vote for your heir. your heir becomes king with 1/8 of votes. that should be managed in a way where they band for and against you, and you should be allowed to influence them.

hopefuly devs thought of that, as this is a great opportunity to improve this.

Or 7 dukes vote for you, and no amount of voting for other people or trying to annoy people, will compel them to vote for anyone else so you end up with a title you don't want.

It would be nice if like, if someone who got votes in an elective monarchy, could succession war and anyone who voted for them would be tied into joining the revolt or something like how faction revolts work? So the runner up who got 1 less vote, would be able to take it by force?
